Prologue
(1912)
Even as the darkness deepened, the waters remained calm - almost as if they were trying to balance the loudness and the energy of the people aboard the greatest ship ever built: the Titanic. Laughter and music could be heard from the large dinning rooms, filled with the most extravagant chandeliers. While some danced, others were deep in conversation. Down in the water, the engines provided a lullaby for those already retired for the night, unaware of what was to come.
Not long after, the phone in the wheelhouse rang.
Designed to be used only in case of emergency, all the officers snapped to attention, their senses sharpening at once.
"Iceberg, right ahead!" was heard from the other line.
Without a second thought, everybody started yelling orders, trying to avoid the worst-case scenario: a head-on impact. As the engines were reversed, the time stretched inexplicably. The most important question - to which nobody had an answer - was whether they would succeed or not.
At that moment, the impact happened.
Not with the ice, but something else - something that managed to bring the ship to a halt. Glass shattered, scattering across the linoleum floors. The propellers were still spinning from the leftover energy in them, their sweet lullaby transformed to a metallic groan . The dining rooms, once filled with laughter, fell silent as all passengers collapsed on the floors from the sudden stop.
Then... darkness engulfed the entire ship.
