"Hey, Darwin! Have you seen Gumball anywhere?" Anais asked ask she walked down the stairs, holding her doll. She turned the corner to see Darwin on the couch, watching tv. The  orange fish shook his head. "I thought he was going to the mall today with Penny, but I haven't heard back from him." 

     "Huh, that's strange." Nicole said, drinking her evening tea.  "Usually he posts on ElmorePlus how his date's going, but yeah. I've heard nothing from him. "The doorbell to the house rang and Darwin opened it to see Penny and Carrie, who were Gumball and Darwin's girlfriends, respectively. "Hey, what brings you two here?" He asked.  

    "Just curious as to where Gumball is." Carrie replied. "Wait, so you haven't seen him all day?" Anais asked. "Yeah," Penny replied. "I asked him earlier today if he wanted to go to see a movie , but he didn't answer any of my texts."
"She then called me and we decided to go visit you guys together." Carrie added. "Do you mind if we look with you?" She asked. "Well, we've looked all around the house, Carrie." Darwin explained. "Have you looked in the basement?" Anais asked. 

"WAIT, WE HAVE A BASEMENT?!" Everyone exclaimed.

     "Wow, you guys seriously did not know this whole time?!" Anais asked in frustration. She sighed and led her family and the two girls to the basement entrance, which was underneath the stairs. 

     Richard gasped. "A secret passage to the underworld?!" He asked as he arrived from the kitchen. "Ugh, no, Richard, the basement!" Nicole answered frustrated. She gave everyone flashlights and the group made their way down the stairs. 

     Darwin scanned the walls of the basement with his flashlight until he caught a glimpse of Gumball, lying unconscious on the floor. "NOOOO!!! GUMBALLL!!" He screamed as he ran up to him. "Calm down, he may be still alive." Anais said as the others caught up with Darwin. She placed two fingers on the blue cat's throat. He still had a pulse. 
"Maybe he fell down the stairs and hit his head in the process?" Penny suggested. 
Anais shook her head. "No, that can't be right. He doesn't have any bruises or bumps indicating a fall."
