Perfecting the soul and devoting it with good deeds can never be attained and retained by worshipping Allah swt for one day but also it will not be deprived of it for the sin of one day however negligence of one day may lead to another day then slowly one becomes accustomed to idleness hence persist in doing good deeds even if it's little and persist in abstaining from bad deeds even if it's little bi ithnillah ta'ala.

وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
"Man will not get anything unless he works hard" (Surah al-Najm, 53:39).
