Chapter 5

Wilbur continued to pace around the dirt prison, the sun was setting and shadows were growing. Wilbur kept thinking how and why the infected never found the tribe and why they were so aggressive even if they knew that he might be the last survivor they find. When he had finished pacing he was so tired he flopped onto the floor, it was wet and his hazmat suit got covered in mud, luckily it was waterproof. Wilbur was freezing and it started to rain, heavily. The rain came in buckets and the trees were shaking. Finally the guards of the prison decided to go inside a small cave.

The rain kept pouring down and Wilbur swore he could hear footsteps. He sat up awake and attempted for the thousandth time to wiggle free of the binds on his wrists. He failed, like every other time. The noise got louder and Wilbur then knew they were footsteps, the infected had come. Wilbur whimpered and curled in a ball waiting for death. 'Hey, you..' whispered a voice. Wilbur looked around but saw nothing, 'where are you' he whispered back. 'You can't see me but trust me mate, we'll get you out of there. We'll be back in a day or two' replied the voice, 'can't you take me now' begged Wilbur sadly. 'It's not safe now' replied the voice, Wilbur then heard a bang then a nearby tree falling. 'Hello?' Said Wilbur but the voice never came back. He heard soft footsteps in the distance as in someone was running away.

'What was that!' Demanded the voice of the chief. She ran out and stared down the hole 'You! What did you do'. 'N-nothing' said Wilbur suddenly shrinking back as he saw the hatred in her eyes. She let out a shriek then called in her language, 'Our sacred tree!' She hissed as she lowered a rope down into the dirt prison hole, 'You did this!'. She roughly grabbed Wilbur and dragged him up and out with her. 'I didn't I swear!' Yelled Wilbur as he kicked at the chief's legs. 'You have made a huge mistake caracal!' yelled the chief right back to Wilbur. She had violently pushed Wilbur into the cave and called for two Aripellian kangaroos to guard him. 'What did Caracal do?' Asked one angrily, 'what had caracal done to sacred tree!'. 'Your English sucks' muttered Wilbur as he sat down on the cold, stone floor.

When the chief ran buck inside her eyes were stained with tears, Wilbur almost felt bad for her, almost. She yelled again in her language and the kangaroos slammed him against a wall. Wilbur's vision went black for a few seconds then he opened his eyes to see the chief in front of him. She was so angry she was frothing at the mouth. 'You killed the sacred tree!' She shrieked then she snatched a rock from the ground and stabbed it into Wilbur's arm. He yelped in pain then tried to run but the chief just grabbed him again. 'You can not leave, you have to stay here until I'm done with your punishment! Come to think of it, you'll never leave until your ready for our sacrifices!' She yelled as she stabbed a spear into Wilbur's side.

The pain was so bad that Wilbur was crying, he lent over and had his knees to his waist. He went to say something but a wave of pain rushed through his body causing him to just fall over. He laid there, accepting his fate, the strange Aripellian never would save him, it just caused trouble. The chief laughed as Wilbur bled all over the floor, he lay on the ground and watched the sun rising trying to take his mind of the pain. A fresh set of tears rushed out of Wilbur's eyes as he watched dawn come, he heard a scream then he blacked out.
