First Period, First Felony

The very same kid that ran into Can this morning walked into her homeroom class, a little late. After talking to America and introducing himself, he sat down a few seats away from Can.

Can shot him a small wave, smiling, and he returned the wave. And the smile.

“Alright class, now that y’all have met the newest member to our chemistry class, it’s time to begin our learning adventure.” America started, with a grin that held more mischief than any grin from any teacher should.

America walks behind a table at the front of the class, the eyes of all the kids watching him excitedly. Can was at the edge of her seat.

America guestered to multiple materials in front of him, including four small paper Dixie cups, melted wax, and large glass tub-like containers. “Today we’ll be using these items to create something beautiful. Although there is one item not on here, that I think you will be very pleased with.”

The mischievous grin only brightened. The class leaned forward, and there were scattered whispers of what it could be. Can had hoped for something like a rocket, or like the gun that America once brought in to show the kids how gunpowder worked and almost got arrested for.

Can only wished more, thinking about how Mr. Canada, the math teacher, had to convince the police officers that it wasn't for anything bad, and how his brother just didn’t remember that it was illegal.

America slides out a drawer and all the whispers stop. Can snaps out of her daydream and watches America. He slowly pulls out an object, building a looming suspense.

He lifts up a lighter. Something so petite, and yet so beautiful.

The class gasps in unison. An0n, the flaming girl, holds out a hand to Phoenix and they give her a high five. Can shoots a fist in the air and gives out a loud “WOOO”.

Fire was something they all cherished. Even the new kid, Theo, looked excited, although a little nervous at how overly excited the flaming girl was. Fair response, though, Can would be nervous too, if she wasn’t already used to the large amount of arson from her insane friends.

The class settles down, still quietly buzzing with excitement. America put down the lighter. “Alright, you guys are going to break into four groups. I’ll choose your groups, and there will be 4 people per group, since there’s 16 of you.

“I’ll call out your names, and you will meet with those people at the table of your choice! Group 1, Wren, Kape, Madds, and Cloud. Group 2, Koke, An0n, Anna, n’ Foxy. Group 3, Figgy, Kosmos, Angel, and Ar. And Group 4, Can, Mania, Phoenix, and Theo!”

Everyone goes to different tables, and America passes out the large containers, which are each filled with a small pile of sticks, sprinkled in a small amount of oil. America then gives each group a cup of different types of materials, each labeled with a chemical.

Can’s group’s cup had a white powder, and was labeled ‘borax’. Can wondered excitedly as to what it would do, and how it connected to fire.

America passed out unfolded paper clips and scissors, and he poured a small bit of melted wax in each cup, “Alright, kids, one of you guys can mix the wax in with the chemical in the cup, then we’ll wait for them to cool down, cut the sides of the cup off, and the experiment can continue!”

Mania, a partner of Can’s, takes the cup and mixes the wax and borax. Then Mania puts the cup on the table and the four wait for it to cool down.

Can glances at Theo, who is anxiously fidgeting with the hem of his shirt, and decides to make conversation, “Sorry about my friend earlier! She’s a bit lovingly aggressive. She’ll warm up to you, though!”

“It’s fine! Sorry I ran into you!” Theo answers, and Can smiles a bit,

“S’alright! I should’ve been watching where I was going better, anyways, heh.” Can says, nervously outlining the screws on her mechanical left arm with her finger.

“The wax is ready!” Phoenix exclaims, catching Can and Theo’s attention.

“Awesome!” Can cheered, “Lets cut the edges off!”

Theo takes the scissors and the cup and carefully gets the edges off, leaving a thin-ish disk of white wax, with the paper bottom still attached.

America, seeing that all the groups were done, then goes around, placing the wax disks in the wood piles. He gets to Can’s table and places the wax in, then lights the small pile of sticks up.

The four watch as the sticks go up in flame. The flame slowly starts turning green, as it reaches the wax and the four gasp. Phoenix stares at the green flame, concerningly excited.

That wasn’t the most concerning thing about the class, though.

You see, there were more than two kids in the class who were pyromaniacs…

And the kids weren’t the only pyromaniacs in the classroom.

There stood America at the front of the classroom, multiple glass containers side by side. He lit them all up, one by one, until it created a rainbow of fire. America cheered when he had finished, catching the attention of Can and the others.

“GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY” Someone loudly started. Can couldn’t tell who, as more people quickly joined. Phoenix, Madds, America, Ar, Wren, and Kape had all joined. Can joined in as well, after chuckling, and the rest of the table joined.

Soon after, everyone in the classroom was yelling gay. Can even thought she heard a few people from another class yell it as well.

America grins as the yells die down.

“So, what did we learn about how different chemicals react to fi-” America starts before the door slams open with a loud bang,

“I HEARD SMOKE AND I SMELL GAY, WHAT’RE WE DOING AND CAN I JOIN?” Veela stands in the doorway, holding a sword out in front of her.

The loud noise of the door had startled America, and he had accidentally swept his arm over the table, while turning towards the door. The red colored fire container fell off the table.

The glass shattered and the fire slowly started to spread to the scattered, oil covered sticks. Veela shrieked loudly and threw her sword at the red fire in a panic. Nothing happened, of course, but Veela throwing the sword made America step back, his arm still draped over the table, thus knocking off the purple fire container.

America laughed shortly at the strange series of events, before realizing that the fire was surrounding the sides of the table, and blocking him in. He sighs.

Koke, now excited about the fire, yells “RAINBOW FIRE” and knocks her group’s yellow fire onto the floor.

Phoenix laughs and does the same. Can just giggles and makes no attempt to stop them. Mania sighs, and Theo looks a bit confused, as it was his first day and it was quite literally going up in flames.

Soon almost all of the glass containers were shattered on the floor. The floor was now a colorful fiery, glassy trap. Can, America, and most of the other students were just now realizing the gravity of the situation. The air was slowly getting more and more smokey, and the fire alarms were blaring loudly.

America hopped over the table and yelled out to Veela, “Go get someone!”

He was hard to hear, but Can watches as the panicked Veela runs out of sight, after looking longingly at their sword.

The fire gets closer to Can and Theo, who is right next to her. The fire from Koke’s table and their table slowly started to surround them.

Can awkwardly laughs, “Yeaaaahhhhhh, this isn’t good.” Theo nods in agreement.

Can looks around. Only a few people, including her and Theo, were trapped. That was Ar, Figgy, Foxy, and Kape. An0n, was freely walking through the fire, checking on people, and trying her best to help Foxy.

As the fire creeps even closer, Can knows she has to do something. She thinks for a moment, then quickly turns to her backpack, which is shoved under the lip of the table. She pulls out a water bottle and pours it over the fire, which does little to kill it, and only increases the amount of smoke by a small amount.

“Ahahahahahhaha, that did not work.” Can chuckles nervously, trying not to inhale too much smoke.

“No, no it did not,” Theo says, sounding equally as nervous.

Veela, luckily, comes back with Canada and Russia, the tall menacing Home Ec teacher. The teachers both carry fire extinguishers, and they quickly start extinguishing the fire, reaching the kids who are trapped as fast as they can.

When Russia and Canada are done, they both stand, glaring at America.

America puts his hands together, near his lips, thinking. He lowers them.

“You see there is a perfectly logical explana-” America gets in before Russia ‘extinguishes’ America’s face, covering the poor man in the white foam that covers the classroom.

“Yeah, okay I deserved tha-'' America said once more, before being ‘extinguished’ by Canada. America pauses once more.

“A lil uncalled for, but fair eno-” Once again does Canada ‘extinguish’ him.

“Ya done?” America asks, his voice slightly annoyed.

Canada chortles, “Yes, I am.”

America takes off his sunglasses and wipes them off, “Guess no more rainbow fire for the rest of the day…” He sighs, placing them back on.

Canada shakes his head, “There never should have been any rainbow fire,”

“But it was cool!!” Can chirps in, and agreement buzzes through the classroom, especially from Madds, Phoenix, An0n, and Koke.

“Can, you and Theo almost got caught on fire.” Mania points out, and Can shrugs.

“The first half was cool.” She says, smiling. She had been nervous about catching on fire, but that was everyday stuff, while living with some of the other students, and coming here to the school every day.

“See? The students loved it while it lasted.” America complains.

Canada shakes his head, “Why are you like this.”

America grins, “You just hate me cuz you ain’t me,” He clicks his tongue and shoots Canada finger guns. Canada holds up the extinguisher and America shrieks, covering his face. Russia, Canada, and multiple students laugh at the high pitched shriek.

The bell rings and the two teachers go back to their classes. The students all grab their (somewhat burnt) items and file out of the classroom.

“Looking quite distinguished, Mr. America!” Can says as she passes America.

“I'm giving you an F!” He calls back, jokingly, or so she hopes jokingly.

Can stops by Veela, who is holding her sword with their hand wrapped in their shirt. The sword must’ve been hot still from being in the fire.

“Want me to hold it for you?” Can asks, gesturing to her mechanical hand, which is heat resistant, for reasons involving arson and cooking. Two very similar things for Can.

“That would be great.” Veela says and Can takes the sword. The two walk out of the door, and Theo follows behind. Veela goes down the hallway, leaving Can and Theo, Can holding the burning sword with her.

“Sorry that your first period of your first day involved almost catching on fire and burning the chemistry room down.” Can apologized to Theo, realizing that for many people this was not in fact normal.

“No! It’s fine! It was… Interesting, to say the least,” Theo lets out a short laugh, “Anyways, can you show me where the art room is?”

“Yeah! Of course! I have that next, anyways!” Can smiles, and heads in the direction of the art room, Theo by her side.
