The Mausoleum
"You ready, Gareth?" asked Prince Kevin.
"Yup, as ready as I'll ever be, bro. I'm so excited to join the search party through our family's mausoleum for Halloween. Been waiting to do that for years... It was a dear wish of mine. Love Pa's and Granma's surprise this time."
"Aren't you supposed to say Queen Mother and the Prince of Birmingham while speaking of them, Garry?" teased Kevin.
"We can start from the main entrance. We can split our group into pairs of two to easily move through the maze and find the treasure faster. What do you think, Kevin? I choose first and take our cousin, Edward. No arguments. Please."
Garry grabs Edward's hand and pulls him towards the door. "There's something I'd like to show you. There's this triangle artifact I saw on our way here that gives off creepy vibes. Do you know something about it, Ed?"
"Ed shrugs his shoulders. "No, I'm afraid I don't. Seems pretty normal to me, Garry."
"This is it. Let's start, folks. We do not have much time. One hour to midnight and then... WE HAVE A WINNER." squeals Kevin.
"I'm gung-ho about this time. Wonder what Granma has hidden for us as prize. Last time it was a golden vase with a crystal lid. It was her great-great grandfather's legacy. And it was just so beautiful..." reminisced Kevin to Samantha- his partner, Edward's sister.
All of them scatter in different directions- Kevin and Samantha, Gareth and Edward, Charles and Angus. With the mausoleum shaped like a labyrinth, the ancient passageways full of dust and cobwebs, wooden planks creaking, the fun and mystery element increases manifold. There are fake doors, folding mirror, dead ends, misleading routes, resulting in a lot of giggling and screams.
Angus actually ran through a door thinking it would open on the other side, only to hit a brick wall. Not to mention that colourful bump on his head. And Samantha was preening in front of a mirror only to realise Charles could see her from the other side. There were some skeletons hanging by the sidelines which appeared when Garry inadvertently pulled on the rope hanging on the curtain to steady himself from slipping on some what-looked-like-grease.
"Phew. Finally reached the obelisk!", thought Edward with relief.
"Granma sure has outdone herself this time. Been running through for 45 minutes and boy, I'm tired." panted Kevin right behind him.
"I'm exhausted like anything. Have never searched so hard before. Every corner." A clearly worn-out Samantha drawled.
The Queen Mother comes into view from behind the obelisk, "So you made it. All of you. Didn't expect you to complete this quest. I must say, with so many first-timers, I had my doubts. What were you thinking would be the grand prize, my children?" She claps her hand and the Minotaur reveals himself to them.
With a wicked chuckle and evil grin, "As a part of our deal, you take these children as your sacrifice, Minotaur. In return, I get to rule for eternity!"
