Level Twenty-Nine
The diamond above the Army member's head turns orange. I grip my sword hilt tighter. That's it.
They're going to die.
"Takashi, untie Rin," I say, sounding unnaturally calm as I draw my sword. Takashi knows not to question me and rushes to undo the intricate knots that bind our sister to the tree. One of the Army members rushes to stop him, but steel sounds against steel as my blade stops him. He backs up. Good; he knows I'm pissed.
"You're a long way from home, little girl," says another one, coming towards me. "You don't belong out here. If you and your little boyfriend run back to mommy now, I promise we won't hurt you." By now he's right on top of me, a towering fifteen centimeters taller than I am. He's got a smirk on his face that screams, Punch me on the jaw!
So guess what? I do it. And, go figure, all hell breaks loose.
The three Army members come at me at once, but I'm a whirlwind. I fight harder than I've ever fought before to make them pay for tearing apart my family. My real-world family's already been destroyed; I can't let a couple of idiots screw my RPG one up. So I slash, parry, and block without really thinking about it. My sword does the work for me. I'm enjoying this; I feel free and powerful and ecstatic all at once, and it all culminates into my strikes. I hear their cries of mercy and put one of my own in. My voice comes out in a rabid yell as my sword rushes downward, the point searching hungrily for a target.
"Haruko!"
I look up and see Takashi standing to the side with Rin. Both have widened eyes staring straight at me. I look at them, then back at the Army members. Two of them are down on the ground, clutching various body parts and struggling to get up. The other one's armor is in my left fist. My right hand holds my sword, which has almost reached the Player. I pause, drop the man and my sword, and look at my hands.
What did I just do?
Finally I get my wits together and grab my sword, pointing it at all the Army members. "Get out," I say. "Stop extorting these villagers. And tell Kibaou that Haruko says hi."
They get up and run away. I look back at my siblings. "Let's go break the news to Sasha."
A/N: Hi, guys! So I just did a little experiment before writing this chapter and looked at the comments on the last one. A lot of people were like "NOOOOOO" and "YYYYYYYY" and things like that. Then one reader said, "At least give them another sister!" I realized they thought I killed off Haruko's sister. I think most people got so absorbed in the goings-on of the moment that they forgot one crucial fact.
Azumi is not the sister.
Rin is.
As I finish rolling on the floor and laughing, I'd like to point out that I am grateful for your die-hard fandom reactions. Please continue to comment whatever you want (short of profanity or insults; find another writer if you don't like me) whenever you want to do it; I promise it's not annoying.
