Chapter Ten

Zoë found her instinct taking over. Her long black hair was shaken out of its braid, bangs pulled across her face and pinned with her mothers long silver pin. A bloody bandage fell to the floor of her room, Zoë just untied it.

She walked to her closet, after yanking on a pair of jeans, she found herself tugging on a familiar orange and black shirt, all signs she was part of the Hunter archery team laying in a pile on her bed.

Her wooden arrows clanked together as both quiver were sling of her back. Her fathers gun was attached to her belt, alongside two long knives.

Her head pounded, it felt like someone was bashing her head in with a hammer.

It didn't matter.

Zoë forgot all about the police, yanking her helmet and fingerless gloves off the desk, tugging the latter over her hands. The silver painted wood of her bow was gripped in her hand, and Zoë clambered down the steps.

Opening the front door, she slammed it behind her, the sound echoing through the empty night.

Underneath the helmet her head ached, and her volcanic eyes glinted in the moonlight.

She mounted her bike, revved the engine, and she was off, down the road in a flash.

As she barreled down the street, she took notice that Nico's family car was gone. She turned corners fast, way too fast for someone with a head injury. But she pushed that all aside, adrenaline firing her up as within minutes she crossed the border to what used to be Othrys.

The trees went from green, plush, and trimmed, to gnarled, twisted and grey. Zoë winced, bouncing upwards as she hit an unrelated crack in the road. Seeing the town, Zoë felt a twinge of sympathy. But that sympathy was slowly squashed out. They took her friends.

They took her family.

They took her.

(cappuccinxs I know exactly what you're thinking)

Luckily for Zoë, the Othrysians spared no expense to the town hall. So it was quite easy for her to find, and park her bike right up front.

Zoë dismounted her bike, and gently removed the helmet off her head, ignoring the dark stain spread across the back. Her eyes glinted with a dark light as she swiftly walked past the door she was arrested in front of, for peaceful pretesting, all those years ago.

"You're useless, Zoë. You'll never make a difference." Atlas hissed at his nine year old daughter, she had a banner wrapped her around her shoulders, written in black paint in all capital letters was 'gay rights'. And a crayon drawing was gripped in her fist. Just above which, on that wrist and the other, were handcuff marks that still stung.

Striding past a steel door, covered in bright yellow caution tape, she headed for the metal piping that ran up the building. Pushing her foot against the wall, she grunted as she tugged herself up, pushing herself up the wall, her head screaming in pain.

"No wonder all your friends are dead." Taunted Heracles, "They killed themselves to get away from you." Zoë rolled her shoulders, and turned around, staring him straight in the eye. At her sides she cracked her knuckles. "You need to loosen up. So what do you say?'Go to the dance with me." Zoë's blood broiled, and she turned her back, stomping away from the cocky black haired idiot that tried to flirt with her. Insulting some on using there dead friends to get there attention, to ask them out? Not a good idea.

Tugging herself upwards, she panted as the bricks swam in static, her head on the verge of an explosion. Collasping in a heap on a third story window, Zoë gripped it's frame for dear life as she caught her breath. She adjusted her quivers, and pulled out her hunting knife.

"Let's see..." Zoë muttered, tracing the edge of her knife lightly against the glass, "I assume they didn't put in a security system."

With four quick slashed the window shattered inside the building and Zoë had already darted in, and hid under the water fountain as two monsters ran in, one carrying the gun and another a spear. Zoë heard her heart pounding in her ears she she stood up, the wood slightly scraping against her bow as she drew an arrow back.

The man howled in pain, dropping to the floor an arrow lodged in his shoulder, his accomplice, the man with the spear, swung around, only to be cut down by another one of her arrows sinking into his flesh.

Zoë approached the two men cautiously, a pool of scarlet surrounding each of them as they groaned in pain. Swiftly, Zoë removed the gun from the first mans hand, and tucked it into her belt, after of course, wiping off the blood that was on it. The two men groaned, drifting between conscious and unconsciousness in pain.

Moving on, Zoë tread lightly on her feet. She licked her lips, coming to a stairwell. Trailing her fingers on the railing she slowly walked up.

"Stop it!" The six year old screeched, "Tugging her hair away from her sister. "Leave me alone!" Zoë shouted, throwing her sisters off.

"Don't get too close." Zoë mumbled, pushing the door to the fourth level open, "Its cold inside." She glides down the corridor, steps even with the best of her heart, the walls made off glass.

"It's where my demons hide." Zoë bit her lip and looked up, her eyes glinting. Through the door she saw a delighting and horrifying sight. She drew her gun, give a little giggle under her breath. Holding the gun level with her arm, she spun around and with a loud bang, and down went a monster, blood pooled at her feet sending dark stain on her already dark sneakers.

Twisting the gun, Zoë pointed it back at the door, her eyes wild, and a smile tugging at her lips.

"It's where my demons hide."

She pulled the trigger.

______

Okay, I've post a one shot book!

It's gonna have mini stories and previews of books I may write.

Including the one after this one which is to be over in a few more chapters. *manacle laugh*

Oh? The insane Zoë? Well let's see, she has a head injury, figured out her friends aren't exactly dead, and stormed into the town she originally lived in before Tethys, which triggers a platoon of memories.

She might be a little loopy.

Bust don't worry, she'll be fine at the beginning of the next chapter.

Just fine.

Hehe.
