Chapter 1 - Letter from Skeppy

Edited in 5/30/21

~Zak's POV~

"And they lived happily ever after. The end."

I sighed, disappointed that the book wasn't as good as I hoped. I threw it away out of anger, before regretting it immediately and picking it up. In the process, I put it up the shelf — or at least tried too, seeing that the shelf was too high because of the amount of books. I gave up and quietly put it on the floor..

I look over to the pile of books at my drawer, remembering a certain book. I walked over to the mess, noting to myself to clean it up later, and suddenly remembering that my past self has already done the same thing.

I grunted, and ran a hand through my long dark hair out of frustration, a habit of mine. I grabbed a sticky note, and wrote:

Get a new haircut and stop procrastinating cleaning this mess.

-Past Zak

I stuck that sticky note to the foot of my bed-frame, before jumping onto my soft matress, like a child would do. I turned my head to the direction of my books, before reaching out to the bottom one.

Minecraft, my favourite book. It's about two friends who go on adventures together. They're opposites, but somehow fit together.

Oh, how I wish to have that someone. Someone who's willing to go on adventures with you. Someone who's not so formal with you. I am quite lucky I have some of those people, but as selfish as I feel thinking this, I don't see them the way Skep sees Halo.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Your highness, someones here to visit you." Lefie said in their professional tone, which they only use whenever theres visitors around. They're a bit shy with people.

But great! Visitors! I have been craving for social interactions with other fellow humans. Why do I sound like an introvert whos pretending to be an extrovert? Anyways,

"Tell them to come in!"

"Of course sir."

The door opens to reveal a tall person with beautiful green eyes, with brownish-blonde hair, carrying a diamond sword at the back of his clothes.

Dream. (Wait, did you actually think I'd give you Darryl this early? Hah, get memed)

Dream is one of the neighbouring kingdoms. He is also known for participating wars or events often. He could probably be mistaken as a knight by newcomers and visitors. He has this fierce personality, he's brave, and not afraid to take any chances. As hardcore as he sounds right now, he acts like your average guy and just treats everyone as a friend. I get snapped back to reality as he says:

"Uh, hello!... you've kinda been staring at me for the past 15 seconds." Dream greeted. Of course I have.

"Right, um good morning. Why have you visited?" I respond, avoiding what he said.

"Can't someone give their friend some company?" He joked, sitting down next to me on my bed in the process.

"Seriously though, I don't think you've had any human interaction for a while, you good?" His tone became more serious. Concerned even. "Or maybe you've been too caught up in your books again?" He teased, knowing my obsession with books.

He looked down on my book, in which I sighed in response and flopped back on my bed, knowing that this onky proves his point further.

"I'm not obsessed with books."

"Never said you were."

"Shut up." I replied in a joking tone.

"Seriously though, Minecraft? Again? Dude, I love you, but you've read that, like, a hundred times. I don't even know if I'm exaggerating anymore." He said with a smile look.

I just shushed him in respones, wagging my finger in his face.

As time passed, we talked about different things. Dream talked about his trainings, I talked about life in a caste. He looked at his watch, and I see his eyes slightly widen. "Sorry Zak, I gotta go, but-" he say's as he stands up and goes to the door to leave

"I'll try to make some time for you next week! Anyways, goodbye!"

"Goodbye!" I respond as he shuts the door.

Im left alone again with my thoughts....

~

I closed my book. Skip is basically the reason for half of my personality. At least he gets to do whatever he wants. He's free, and I have tons of responsibility for being born by someone named Amy, who is also a queen. I look outside my window. I opened it to get to the balcony. I breathe in the fresh air, and closed my eyes, wishing that that would somehow make me switch places with Zak.

I know thats not gonna work. What did I think this is? Fanfiction created by a bored teen in their room at 2:36 am? About two close friends playing a block game? Hah, you thought.

I could still dream though. A dream worth having is a dream worth trying, right? Unless your dream is to commit every crime, I doubt dreaming would do any harm...haha, right?

I went back into my room, closing the glass windows and hear the sound of the rustling trees get muffled. You know what? Life isn't going to change if you want it to, but it is if you don't. I'm gonna be the own reason for my own change, and I don't care what you say. I look around, searching for something to cover my head, but something that I can walk with.

I look at the box the corner of my room, gaining an idea. I put it over my head and...

I can't see anything. Dang it.

~

After a couple of minutes attempting to find something, I settled on the box. I worked with what I have. I used the previously unused arts & crafts materials my father gifted me. I managed to use the — very dull — scisscors to make it fitter for my head; some paint which I imagined Skip's colours too be, I know that dressing up after your childhood hero is silly, but what harm does it do?; and I poked some holes on it, since it was really dark inside, my eyes weren't visible in the slightest. Of course I drew a derp face on it, I referenced it from the book cover of the book, and I was very happy with it.

I look out the window to see how high the jump is. I see that its about 8 feet tall, with a bush under it. I go out my window, and prepare myself for- wait, wait, wait, wait. You didn't think I was actually gonna jump, did you? Tsk, tsk, tsk. I'll go out that way some other time-

I close my window and go outside my room, and bump into a familiar figure. She's one of the captains of my station, station jem specifically. She has her poofy hair overflowing out of her large hat, then I see that she has a smirk on her face.

"Going somewhere, your highness?" She said with a slight hint of sarcasm. I playfully roll my eyes.

"Im just going to check on the station-" She interrupts me with a slight chuckle,

"Yeah, sure. You're definitely not sneaking out." Dang it. I mean, its not like the people in this castle won't be okay with me sneaking out, its just at I spaced out so many times that it was already dark. They don't think it's safe for me to wander out at this time.

"Uhhh" I respond. Wow, nice excuse Zak. Tooootally believable.

She giggles.

"Don't worry, I'll cover for 'ya."

I sigh with relief, "Thanks Captain!"

"No problem, sir! I better get going. Just um, stay alive or something. Bye!" She says as she disappears from my sight.

I walk out of my castle and make my way unto the shops. The scene gives me a sense of nostalgia. I haven't been here for..years. Never had to, people just bought or gave everything I needed. It feels nice to...actually do something instead of others doing it for you. I like being independent.

As I walk closer, I direct my path to one of the shops. My favourite shop to be exact. The books and quilts shop.

I walk it, the door alerting the owner, they return to the book their reading.

I look at the variety of genres, horror, which I don't like, especially at 3 am in the morning; romance, would be nice if people knew how to write it; adventure, now thats what I'm talking about. As I reach for the book, something caught my eye. Pens. I haven't seen those in a while, I guess its just the fact that I didn't need it. It would be nice for someone to appreciate you for your words though, and not your position. I contemplate for a second before reaching for a pen and ink.

I looked around for a while, silently wishing I could live here, before finally going to the counter, where a friendly-looking man sat. He lowered his book, and then looked at what I brought. A new looking book—the cover has a young boy surrounded by tall trees—two pens and a small glass container with ink....and maybe a romance novel.

"That'll be 5 iron."

I reach into my pocket and I felt- nothing..oh no

The cashier noticed my nervousness and talked in a calming manner,

"Hey, kiddo. You can grab your money, I'll wait here. Just dont take to lo-"

Someone slides their money and their items unto the counter.

"I'll pay for it. You can keep the change too." The voice seemed familiar, so I looked up and saw one familiar face. Isn't that one of Puffy's soldiers? Uhh, Daffie? Darrie? Oh, Darryl! I think...

"Thank you." I said.

"No problem..." He pauses and looks at me expectantly.

"Skeppy, call me Skeppy." I think I know who's gonna receive my letter.

He gave a humble smile, before taking off his hoodie and saying his name.

We talked for a while, until darkness came over the town.
