Quirk Backlash

Due to the USJ incident, the whole class have a 3 days rest while Aizawa is under surgery. Luckily the other two are weekends. This is to let the students process the horror of that day. A few admits to have been threatened by death by some of the criminals. Meanwhile, Naruto have a different problem that could use the mandatory rest. Honestly, this is the first time his Quirk backlash is really felt. Needless to say, he's down for the count.

Minato stays with Naruto for the first two days but he then calls on Izuku who meekly answers the door, "Yes, Uncle Minato?"

Minato sighs, "I can't take a leave today but Naruto's Quirk's backlash makes him go through a high fever. I already took him to a doctor and they already gave us the pills. But I'm still worried. Can you...can you make sure that he eats and stay hydrated?"

Izuku immediately agrees before asking, "Oh. One of our classmate lives in the other building. Do you mind if I call her over?"

Minato looks relieved, "Yes," He smiles, "Please and thank you. Excuse me,"

Izuku watch as the single father leaves for work. He knows that his mum likes Minato but he heard from Naruto that Minato still celebrates Valentine with his Naruto's late mother. But it still feels a little weird for Izuku since he do like Minato and already see the man as his father figure. He thought about playing cupid but Naruto had caught onto him and said that things like this will not do with meddling. Both set of parents have their own reason as to why they won't pursue the other. Not that Naruto have anything against his mother become his. But the fox wants to respect his father's wishes. So Izuku relented.

Still, he don't think that he can take care of Naruto alone. The guy's bigger than him and Izuku have never taken care of anyone other than his mother. But there is someone he thought would benefit from helping Naruto. Naruto might think Izuku doesn't notice but he's glaringly obvious. Wanting to help Naruto, he makes a call and Hinata immediately answers, {Yes?}

Izuku asks, "Can you come over to Naruto's apartment. His red form apparently makes him really sick,"

{...I'm on my way}

After that, Izuku waits for Hinata since she only know the building and the floor of their home but not the exact door. Once she appears, he greets her, "How are you since that day?"

Hinata hums, "I'm doing surprisingly fine, actually,"

Izuku sighs, "I have nightmares. Like...I was too slow and All Might died because of me? I feel so useless. I mean, I have been training my whole life but...it's like the Entrance Exam all over again. I froze up,"

Hinata thought about it before saying, "Well, you still move, didn't you? Sure, you might not have done as much as Naruto-kun but...but you did something and that should count," She smiles, "True courage is to move and act despite of fear, not because you lack fear,"

Izuku smiles, "Y-yeah...Naruto said something similar once," He then stops in front of a door, opening the apartment's door with the spare key that Minato had entrusted to him, "We're here," He then calls, "Excuse me. Naruto! Are you in?"

As Hinata politely enters, she bows, "Sorry for the intrusion,"

Izuku immediately checks for Naruto at the living room and found him absent. He then looks at the door with a traditional scroll that have Naruto's name in wild calligraphy as opposed to his father's neater calligraphy. Naruto have something of a traditional taste but likes the modern convenience. It reflects his personality even at home. Of course, there are his father's touch here and there. But Minato is something of a minimalist so his presence is more muted. And there's that very precious bonsai that late Aunt Kushina personally grew when she was alive. Naruto is in charge on keep the bonsai healthy. There also a large number of house plants growing around the apartment.

Hinata asks, "Why are we standing in front of his door?"

Izuku replies, "I have been in this apartment a lot growing up but I have never been inside his bedroom. Which is just weird since he barges into mine all the time," He shows a little confusion, "Why was that?"

Hinata huffs and reaches for the door knob to open it. Nothing happens so she can't see what was Izuku's deal. So she pushes the door open to see a jungle of a room. Not that it is messy...other than clothes that should be in the burlap style hamper by the door. There are more plants in his room than are outside. A shelf and desk combo stands against the wall with basic laptop and gaming console, text books line the shelves. His room's aesthetic feels like an urban jungle with the black pipe and pinewood industrial furniture. His walls are painted an emerald green with black colored blackout curtains white creamy white day curtain peeking from the back. His table lamp looks like a retro kerosene lamp with Edison light bulb inside. A simple woven carpet the color of straws covers his wooden flooring. Not far from his bed is a dumbbells set. A pull up bar is screwed to one wall. Hanging on a wall mounted coat hanger beside his clothes and pants is a heavy duty resistance band.

Hinata pushes the curtains aside to let in some light and found Naruto on his bed, chest bare and skin flushed red. Climbing over his low platform single bed, she reaches to touch his skin and found him sweating. The heat coming from him is hot enough that she almost snatch her hand back. Pulling back his blanket, she tries to ignore his naked torso in favor of doing her work.

Izuku finished putting away his dirty clothes into the hamper before studying Naruto, "No wonder Uncle Minato worries. I don't think he'll be up to drink or eat if left alone,"

Hinata turns to him, "Can you help wipe him down and change his clothes? Maybe change his bed sheet too? He's sweating a lot. I'll go see if there's food for him,"

Izuku nods, "Okay,"

After that, Hinata leaves the boys for privacy. She heads into the kitchen and found a pot on the stove. Lifting the lid, it seems that Naruto's father have left him a watery porridge. She then checks the fridge and pulls out some more ingredients to add some texture and flavor for Naruto to taste. As she cooks, Izuku comes out with the dirty hamper, "I'm going to wash this,"

Hinata only nods, focusing on the food. She pulls out an apple and cuts them into bite sized pieces. Once they are finished, she fills a tumbler with a straw with clean water with a slice of lemon inside. Putting them on a tray, she carries them into the bedroom. Inside, she found Naruto in a clean pair of pants, drowsily coming around as he props against his wooden bed frame.

She carefully puts the tray where he can't accidentally topple it and asks, "Naruto-kun?"

He tiredly grunts, sounding a bit like a frog.

How cute. But pushing away the random thought from her mind, she calls again, "Naruto-kun? Come eat breakfast,"

He grunts again, this time weakly protesting. Well, he must be tired from the Quirk backlash that causes him to be this feverish. The worse she gets from pushing it is itchy eyes and blurry sight. While overusing her Quirk means one hell of a migraine that will knock her out for a full 12 hours if she really pushed it.

Still, she can't give up, "Your father left you some rice porridge but I added a little something to make it taste. Will you please eat it? I even cut you some apples. Or do you want water? I have water,"

He blinks his pretty blue eyes at her and croaks, "Water,"

She presses the straw to his lips and he hungrily sips on it. She smiles as he slowly wakes up more, the water slowly but surely reviving him. After he pulls away, he frowns, "My plants..."

Hinata reassures him, "We'll water them, move them, whatever they need. But please eat," She promises with him a bribe to care for his plants as she blows on the warm porridge with chicken bits and chopped carrots, tiny enough that he can just swallow them without chewing if he wants. She scoops a spoonful and offers the food to him, "Here,"

Naruto blinks at the food before sticking his tongue to poke test the heat like a scared child. Deeming it safe, he eats the whole thing. His mouth swirl the soft food around and he nods, prompting Hinata to scoop more porridge. He slowly go through the food, becoming more and more awake with each bite. Before long, the bowl is empty. She sets that aside as he drinks from the tumbler and offers him fruits. By the time she starts on the fruit, he is much more awake and accepts the cut apples, "Thanks...I can eat this myself,"

He pops one into his mouth.

Hinata lets him eat independently and looks at his packet of fever reducer pills. Naruto is certainly not the first Quirk that causes one to gain high fever from Quirk over usage. She asks, "Have you taken your medicine?"

Naruto blinks as he sips his water, thinking with squinting eyes. Hinata bites back a squeal at the cute similarity to a fox. After a moment, he shakes his head. Popping out two, she hands him the pills. He accepts the pills from her and throws his head back, swallowing them before returning to sipping his drink. Hinata sits there on the edge of his bed, watching him drink.

Then it dawns on her that she's in a boy's bedroom...for the first time. Her cheeks slowly burns red. Hinata tries to reason with herself that she is there to help Naruto and not drool over his fit body. Sure, all the boys in their class are fit but Naruto's body is on another level. He have been forging them for much longer than the other students. Only a few like Todoroki, Bakugo, and Kirishima could claim the same. Not that she know for sure. Only that they are certainly more battle prepared than the other students in their class. Ah, Izuku too. Naruto personally trained him after all.

"Hinata," She looks at him as he levels a look of concern on her, "How are you since that day? Any nightmares? Are you hurt anyway? Sick?"

Hinata smiles, touched that he still worries despite being the one in bed sick, "I'm surprisingly fine, actually,"

She can't exactly tell him that part of the reason why she is fine is because of him. She did have a nightmare but it was negligible because in that nightmare, while the shadow tried to consume her, she can feel his warm tail around her, anchoring her and keeping her safe as it flashed gold like the sun. She was afraid during the attack but Naruto's steady presence gave her courage. It was why she could Cut at the shadow.

She watch as Naruto's concern melts away but not really gone, "If you ever have a nightmare...you can share it with me. Maybe I can't help you in a dream but...I can help make you feel better awake..." He groans, rubbing his eye as a yawn breaks open his mouth. He shakes his head, "Damn meds. Make me sleep all the time. I'm getting sick of sleeping, dattebayo,"

Hinata giggles, "But you will get better before school,"

He hums before blinking at her, the air around him soft and somewhat sensual with his half-lid stare, "How are you here anyway? I mean...is Izuku with you?"

She nods, "He's doing the laundry. You sweat a lot,"

Naruto looks at his bed sheet, notice the change, and sighs, "That broccoli. I bet he's having nightmares. But he's too stubborn for his own good,"

Hinata hums, "He...did mention nightmares..."

Naruto nods, "Nobody can get out of their first real life and death fight without... a nightmare or two," He yawns, "Fuck~! I nodding off again...sorry, Hinata...I'm not a very good host,"

She helps him lie back on his bed, "But you are a good patient,"

Naruto looks at her before smiling, nuzzling against the hand close to his face, causing her to freeze in shock, "You...you're going to be a great wife for some lucky guy..."

As he nods away, once again out from the strong medication, Hinata is still in shock. Her whole body feels hot from his words. Honestly, he's too transparent with his attraction to her that Hinata doesn't know what to do or how to feel. She have never been in a relationship. Too much of a 'Villain' to be attracted to good law abiding citizens. And the ones that catcalled her were all bad boys who are definitely not going to treat her well. But even they were wary of her Quirk. But Naruto isn't just openly attracted to her, since he's not very good at hiding it with his blushing, stuttering, staring, and outright admittance that she's his type. He's also not afraid of her Quirk. He wholeheartedly believes that she can be a Hero even with a Quirk like hers.

Hinata sighs, rubbing her red face with her hands, trying to calm herself. Fortunately, a knock on the door distracts her from her own internal turmoil. She looks to see Izuku at the entryway, "Hey. I already did the laundry. Just waiting for them to finish washing. How is he?"

Hinata smiles, "He's back to sleep. The medicine is really strong,"

Izuku picks up the packet and reads, "Huh, this one is the one with really strong painkillers,"

Hinata asks, "How would you know?"

Izuku chuckles as he rubs his neck, "W-well, Naruto had me memorize all types of drugs and poisons. We have chemistry class and he made sure I know my periodic elements. Something about I have to be on top of things if I want to make it? It sure is helpful for these sort of things,"

Hinata hums, "Maybe I should do the same? My Cut is dangerous but as long as I avoid the lines, a little drug strong enough to knock them out should also help me make things easier,"

Izuku frowns, "Won't that be illegal?"

She nods, "Maybe. But I can always ask for permission once I get my license,"

Izuku hums, thinking that could be a thing. Not that he know much Pro-Heroes that uses drugs to take down the Villains. It sounds a bit unethical and not fitting the people's image of heroism. But Hinata had mentioned about going underground so maybe it will work out for her. After awhile of discussing about the ethical side of using drugs to stop rampaging Villain, Izuku suddenly asks, "Do you think those League of Villains will make a return?"

Hinata frowns, "Maybe...the police is already posting pictures of them on the news and sharing what information we have with the other Pro-Heroes. Even if they are going to make a comeback, I doubt that it will be anytime soon,"

Izuku grips his hands until they are white knuckled, "Hinata...that day at USJ...you're very close to me and All Might. Did you...you know...?"

Hinata understands what he is asking, "A little. I don't really understand anything, only that you are important to All Might. You and Naruto both. And also that he is much, much weaker. I also...notice the blood on his lips. He's...he's very sick, isn't he?"

Izuku presses his lips together, tears in his eyes, "I'm scared that next time he won't make it,"

Hinata blinks, realizing the depth of Izuku's care for the old hero, and puts a hand on his shoulder, "Izuku-kun...I don't know how to comfort you. Any words I can think of...sounds like a lie to me. But one thing I do know is that...Naruto-kun is right. He is here to past on his torch to us. I still remember that video where he said that anyone can be a Hero. But...I think most people think he meant Pro-Hero," She pulls her hand away, "But I think he meant something greater. Pro-Heroes aren't the only heroes in this world. Being a Pro doesn't define a person's heroism. I think what he really meant is that just by reaching out a hand to someone in need, you are already a hero. Maybe not the world but to that person you help, you are a hero. And I think he sees that hero in you, Izuku-kun. Especially when you lunged forward to stop an attack when All Might can't move. So chin up,"

Izuku looks at her before turning to look at a softly snoring Naruto. He then says, "Then...Naruto is more a hero than I am. Back when no one think that I can be a hero, he...steps up and said that I can and that he's going to help me get there. He didn't have to. The amount of time he got in trouble for standing up for me...I feel bad. I hate my timid self. Even though he taught how to fight and how to fight back, when it really matters, I just keep freezing up. Or I overthink things. But he never stop. He keep telling me that I have what it takes, I just can't see it. And...I think it's time I face the truth. I'm not All Might and I can never be him," He then smiles, "But I can be Deku instead!"

"About damn time you realize that, you damn broccoli,"

Izuku looks to see Naruto's eyes staring at him through his lashes, "Na-Naruto!"

Hinata frets, "Oh dear! Did our discussion wakes you up? We can...step outside?"

Naruto waves his hand, "Nah. Don't worry about it. I have been telling this knucklehead that he is not All Might but every time he stands in front of that wall of muscles, he forget himself," He yawns as he pushes his body to sit up, "I already taught you how to throw a punch. All Might's fighting skill is one that he already refined through the years. You might be able to throw a punch like him, but your size and body weight as well as your lack of full control on your Quirk will make those attacks less than what it could have been. You're small, so use that size to get in under the opponent's guard. You have the speed to run around them. Use it, you blockhead. You're quick with your brain, use it. All Might have experience, you don't. He have gone and fought crazy amount of Villains. You don't. Just be Deku if you have to. Just be yourself and you'll go farther,"

Izuku blushes, "Sorry. I...I'll keep that in mind,"

Naruto then looks at Hinata, "If you want to include things like knockout drugs into your arsenal, you should learn what is safe for use on people. The strongest one I can think of are the ones people use to knock out surgery patients. That one's fast and safer than most. I think you can discuss this with Aizawa. Unfortunately, most people use knockout drugs for date rape so you have to be careful there. Only use it when absolutely necessary. Maybe ask Sniper since I think he utilize tranquilizer too,"

The group starts talking about what else can be added to their costume and hero gears to help make taking down Villains safely and quickly. Then Hinata asks if Naruto can eat a more solid food. She is thinking of cooking him something but Naruto decides that he have had enough of sleeping and decides to walk instead. Against their advice, he ignores them and takes off his pajama bottom, forcing Hinata to squeak and run out of his bedroom. Izuku rolls his eyes as he follows Hinata.

After a quick change into a set of jogger and a hoodie, he drags them out for some ramen. Hinata pouts as she says, "I could just make you ramen at home,"

Naruto argues, "Yeah. But the ones made in a ramen stall hits different, you know?"

Hinata sighs. Naruto, she found, can be stubborn. But the ramen stall that he takes her to is certainly good. As they finish their meal, she reaches over to touch his temple to check his temperature. His ears springs up and his tails poofs up while his cheeks turns red. She ignores his obvious reaction to her, practically screaming that he's attracted to her, and hums, "It is certainly lesser than this morning,"

Izuku frowns, "If this is lesser then...the past two days must have been worse,"

Naruto shrugs, "I fainted, actually. I thought it was one of those flash fever, you know? So I try to just ride it out. But the next thing I knew, I'm on the ground. Everything was in pain. My Dad's panicking and stuff. He picked me up and took me to the hospital. They managed to lower my temperature until it's safe enough for me to be taken home. Dad stayed up all night trying to continue the treatment...I think. I was in and out. I only woke up late last night and assured him that I'm better and stuff," He chuckles, "But he still send for you, huh?"

Hinata smiles, "He sounds like a good father,"

Izuku nods, "Yeah! Uncle Minato's awesome!"

But he bites back his wish that the man become his father. Minato had really filled in that emptiness through the years. But he already agreed with Naruto to let things flow naturally. And so far...there is nothing going on.

Hinata pokes at the ice in her drink, "I wish...my own father care that much,"

She remember a time when she fell sick. She was left alone. Though her cousin Neji showed up and tossed her the packet of fever medicine before running out of the room. Still, she knows that leaving someone in high fever alone is not normal or right. Listening to Naruto just proves it.

A small plate red bean mochi appears in her line of sight and she looks up to see Naruto already chewing his mochi, asking her, "Mochi?"

She smiles, "Thank you,"

Naruto hums, sipping on his matcha latte. He then says, "Hey, have you done your grocery run?"

Hinata blinks, "Ah! I...with everything that have been going on, I can't say I have,"

Izuku rubs his temple, "Aw man! I forgot about that!"

Naruto smiles, "If you have enough on you, we could do a quick run to the grocer before going back?"

Hinata frowns, "Naruto-kun! You're supposed to be resting!"

Naruto whines, "But you have no food at home! Maybe even those girl stuffs! Besides, I'm better! A quick sweat should fix me faster, dattebayo!"

In the end, they finally take her to the local grocer that is not in a mall. Naruto randomly add items he thinks that she will need. For some reason, he even drags her to the nearby bakery for cinnamon rolls. His excuse is that she should eat cinnamon rolls so that she can stay a cinnamon roll. Lucky they are her favourite. By the time they get back, he is already swaying on his feet like a drunkard but still keeps on insisting that he's fine. Such a silly boy.
