Chapter 6

TW: Violence

Panting, Faith runs into the alleyway, dark and shadowed at this time of night. Not even the streetlights reach the darkest parts of this society.

They follow her into the darkness, as she was expecting. Being broad, muscular men, they look down on her. That is part of her charm. The element of surprise.

Unluckily for them, they are not on her hitlist tonight.

She runs into the dead end, hitting the wall dramatically as she lets out a sob. They bear down on her, their grins spreading wider and wider as they snicker to themselves. One is hitting his palm with a crowbar. The other is spinning a knife around his fingers, a machete glinting dangerously from his belt holster.

"Please... p-p-please..." She whimpers, beckoning them forward with her weak act, "I-I'm so sorry! Don't kill me!" She cries out.

"It's too late now, little girl," Mr crowbar growls, licking his dry lips with his oily tongue, "Tonight, you die,"

She trembles, watching as they move closer and closer. Once they pass the metaphorical line, she sighs and straightens up, sliding her hands into her pockets as she smirks at them. They holt in place, startled by the sudden change in behaviour.

Instantly, one is taken out, a bat coming out of the darkness and hitting him in the chest. He stumbles into the shadows as he breathes out the air in his lungs. Mr crowbar squints into the darkness, trying to find the assailant.

"AAAHHHHH!!!" He flinches as Mr machete's screams break the silence, loud and strangled. This is followed by a gurgling, a thud, and a splash of red leaping out of the darkness.

Mr crowbar rushes towards Faith, panic in his eyes as he claws for her, the only one he can see. She sidesteps him, bringing her boot down onto his back so he crashes onto the ground.

He attempts to scramble to his feet, but it's too late. A young man straddles Mr crowbar, gripping his damp hair tightly as he tugs his head backwards. Faith pins one of his hands down with her boot, watching as he tries to buck him off, yelling incoherent threats.

The young man grins, the smile growing wider and wider as a smattering of black hair hangs over his eyes. A demented look contorts his face as he gently slides a knife out, bringing it menacingly towards the man's throat. He keeps screaming, bucking harder and harder. But it's no use.

Painstakingly slowly, the young man glides the knife across the delicate skin of his neck, watching with grotesque fascination as the blood drips before gushing out onto the cement ground. It's not deep enough for the man to suffocate quickly, but deep enough for him to slowly bleed to death right there.

Mr crowbar clutches his neck with his spare hand, his eyes wide with fear. The young man takes this opportunity to turn him around, so he is on his back. He clasps his chin aggressively, so he is forced to look him in the eye. He watches with intense fascination as the man's eyes slowly droop and flicker, his skin pale and clammy as the blood starts to slow down to a dribble. His mouth is open, gasping as his life slowly leaves him, his movements becoming more limited as his body relaxes into death. As the light finally leaves his eyes, the young man chuckles. He shoves the man's head away roughly, widening the gaping slash in his neck.

"Jeez, that was a bit dark, Jungkook" Faith mutters as Jungkook stands, his eyes still on the body, "We need to go,"

"Okay," He breathes as he looks up at Faith, the maniacal look gone from his expression, "Come here, baby," He purrs, moving towards her as he snakes his hand around her waist.

She giggles as he nibbles at her neck. But the smell of blood and death is making her dizzy.

"Let's go, Jungkook," She repeats.

Jungkook lets her go, love and adoration in his eyes. He lets her lead him away, leaving the two mutilated bodies in the dark alley.

. . . . .

Luna sits up in her bed with a loud gasp. She breathes deeply, looking around her room fearfully. She is in Korea, nowhere near him, or the presence of him. Yet, even in this moment, the mere mention of his name has brought back those memories. She receives these little presentations full of reminders every night, ever since Hoseok and Jimin first told her Jungkook was looking for her last weekend.

Jungkook was always an intense killing machine, Grim's favourite worker. Jungkook shared the psychotic intensity of killing with her father. There were moments where she was sickened by his behaviour, his lust for the blood and pain he'd inflict. Sadly, that's not how they broke up.

Luna shakes her head of these thoughts, shoving the little reminders to the back of her mind. She doesn't want to think of him. She doesn't want to see him, hear him, or even smell him.

She reaches for her phone, stretching out her body as she does. She pulls the phone back into her lap, going from app to app to find a distraction. It's the weekend after all. She needs to find something to do.

Almost as if reading her mind, she receives a text.

TAE: Hey, you're up, right?

Grinning, she kicks her feet out in front of her.

Ah, the perfect distraction.

Flushing, she frowns at her behaviour. Quickly, she runs through the emotional checklist. Her chest is swelling like a balloon, uncontrollable movements, a face-splitting grin... does she like this guy?

"Urgh," She rolls her eyes.

No way, not him. He's arrogant, annoying, bossy, and too friendly. Well, he's not exactly those things anymore, but still. It's just the residue from the dream, right?

Of course.

She responds to him.

LUNA: Yeah, what's up?

TAE: I am bored again. Wanna hang out?

LUNA: Right now?

TAE: Soon. Maybe movies? I have popcorn?

LUNA: Sure. I'll come to your place this time.

TAE: Sounds good, I'll start cleaning up! I'm in apartment 47!

She places her phone on her bedside table, sighing deeply at the prospect of going and hanging out with him. Confusing feelings aside, he would be a very good distraction. Plus, this time they're not studying, just hanging out.

Just a friendly hang out for friendly friends being friendly as friends and stuff.

She jumps out of bed and heads to the shower to start her day fresh. Once she is done, she slides on some comfortable black sweatpants, printed with colourful graffiti art up one side, a black T-shirt, and a warm black hoodie.

She heads out to the kitchen, ready to have a quick breakfast. Hoseok and Jimin are quietly starting their day as she enters. Jimin is glued to his phone, numbly scrolling through a random social media app, sitting on a barstool. Hoseok is leaning against the counter eating some oats, looking a little pale against the starkness of his healing bruises.

"Good morning," Luna says, giving them a small smile as she starts making her breakfast. They eye her for a moment, before glancing at each other. Slowly, as if mirroring each other, a smile creeps up their faces. They look back at her expectantly.

"Good morning, sunshine," Hoseok replies, turning to face her, "What's got you so happy this morning?"

"I'm not that happy," She frowns.

"Oh?" Jimin chuckles, "Not going anywhere?"

"Well..." Luna flushes. She covers her face, glaring at the two of them, but it's too late. They just saw her blush, properly blush, because of someone.

"Oooo Luna!" Hoseok laughs, "Where are you going? Hm?"

"Is it Taehyung? He lives here," Jimin teases.

"Oh? He does?" Hoseok grins evilly, "Is he coming over, Luna?"

"No," she says sternly, grabbing a drink instead of bothering with breakfast. The quicker she can get out of here, the better.

"Are you... going over there?" Jimin gasps as Hoseok falls to the ground dramatically, "Lee Luna! Already?"

"I swear to god, if you two don't shut up I'm going to drown you," She snaps, looking between them angrily as Hoseok climbs to his feet.

"Sure you are, lovebird," Hoseok adds.

Instantly, Luna spins around to punch Hoseok, but he slides out of the way, sprinting for the lounge room. She gives chase, leaping over the sofa to cut him off. He skids to a halt, giggling wildly as he rushes down the hallway. She follows him, slamming into his bedroom door as he closes and locks it behind him.

"YAH! I can break this down you know!" Luna yells, "You better be out here on your knees in two seconds!"

"Isn't that what you'll be doing with Tae in 20 minutes?" Jimin quips, peaking his head around the corner at the beginning of the hallway. Slowly, she turns her head to look at him, a wild glint in her eyes.

"You know, Jimin," Luna mutters darkly, "I have been really stressed at school. It would be nice to take it out on you,"

A flash of fear crosses Jimin's face as he hesitates. She begins sauntering towards him, cracking her knuckles as that exhilaration fills her to the brim. However, instead of running, Jimin falls to his knees.

"I was wrong, don't kill me," Jimin whines dramatically, "I will never do it again!"

"Well, now you've taken all the fun out of it," She mumbles. She pushes him to the side with her foot so she can pass him. He slides into the wall, letting out a small squeak.

"Damn... I forgot how strong you are," Jimin murmurs. He stands, dusting himself off and brushing his hair off his face, watching as she heads towards the foyer.

"I'll be back later," Luna calls out, "Tell Hoseok I keep grudges, bye!"

"Have fun!" Jimin calls out, trying not to laugh.

Luna closes the apartment door behind her, making her way down to the apartment she saw Taehyung enter: Apartment 47. She knocks and waits patiently for him to answer. She can hear bustling and rushing around on the other side, making her frown. The door swings open, revealing a frazzled Taehyung standing before her, his hair damp and a towel in his hands.

"Luna, come in," He mutters nervously, stepping aside. She moves into the foyer, sliding off her shoes before she heads down the hallway to the living area. This apartment is almost identical to hers, except the kitchen is smaller, and there is a door leading to his room instead of a hallway. He also has quite a few glamorous decorations around the space.

"Nice place," She chuckles as he moves past her. He flops down onto the sofa, gesturing to the snack festival on the coffee table in front of him. She looks at the TV to see Netflix open and waiting for them.

"So, what are we going to watch?" Taehyung asks as he pats the seat beside him. She sits down on the sofa as Taehyung becomes more comfortable, crossing his legs as she sits stiffly beside him.

"I don't mind, nothing boring," She replies.

"Well, what do you consider boring?" He asks.

This, of course, starts a debate on what is considered a boring or a good movie. They agree mostly, but when it comes to her favourite movie, Taehyung hates it.

She finds herself relaxing bit by bit the more they talk, lounging into the corner of the sofa with her legs out.

The more insistent she becomes, the more frustrated he becomes. As soon as she starts pondering whether she should drown him or not, he brushes his hair from his forehead, swiftly pulling it back to tie it loose at the back of his head. He turns his eyes to her, his eyebrows narrowed as he frowns at her.

"It's such a shit movie though!" He declares.

God. Damn.

Luna has completely forgotten what the conversation was about. In the entire time he has been following her around and they have become friends, he has never secured his hair from his face. Not like this. How does a person go from adorable to fierce with one swoop?

His eyes have darkened with his frustration, glaring at her as he tilts his head and cocks his eyebrow. His tongue moves around restlessly in his mouth, tensing his jaw in the process. The definition in his expression leaves her stunned. How is this guy so attractive? How attractive can he get?

"Luna?" He asks, "Are you okay?"

She blubbers for a moment, before deciding she shouldn't speak. She nods feverishly, gulping as she stares openly and boldly at him.

"Are you sure?" He asks uncertainly.

"I'm fine!" She says, too loudly. She flushes, realising he is going to pick up on why she's acting like this. He is too observant.

His frown deepens and his eyes narrow suspiciously, but this only enhances the attraction that has her stumped.

Finally, she forces her gaze away from him, staring at the Netflix screen.

"Let's just watch this," she says quickly, playing the moving he was insisting they watch. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees him lean back smugly, his lips puckering as his ego inflates.

I'm allowed to notice attractiveness without liking someone, right?

They watch the movie in silence, reaching the end in no time. Now, the popcorn is gone, and they are lazily draped over the sofa, much more comfortable than before. She has her legs crossed, laying over the arm of the sofa, while Taehyung has brought his feet up, stretching out over the empty space between them. Much like last weekend, they are close, but not too close.

As the credits begin to roll, Taehyung switches over to the main screen, sighing deeply.

"Wow, that was boring," Taehyung mumbles, "Want to watch something else?"

"Sure,"

He begins scrolling through the selections before Luna notices a drama she has been interested in recently. She gasps, sitting up in excitement as she points at the screen, her knees bouncing happily.

"That one! That one! Let's watch it!" She chirps. He scrolls back up and clicks on it.

"This is a drama," Taehyung frowns, "It's too long to watch today,"

"That's okay, I'll just come over tomorrow," Luna shrugs, "And next weekend,"

Taehyung continues looking at her, a slight flush on his tan skin. Eventually, he shakes his head, looking away with a smirk on his face.

"Sounds like a plan," He murmurs, pressing play.

. . . . .

"So, you spent 10 hours watching a Korean drama?" Hoseok asks before pinching his lips together.

"So?" Luna folds her arms, looking at him across the dining table, "What's wrong with that?"

"It's just cute, Luna," Jimin smirks, resting his chin on his hand as he grins at her, "A nice, normal, boy..."

"Don't finish that statement," She warns, holding up her hand. He drops his head, holding his hands up in defeat.

"Anyway," Hoseok waves away Jimin, "Enough of that. We have news about Jungkook,"

Luna's heart stops for a moment, looking at Hoseok warily. Mr Taehyung-the-attractive-distraction really did his job today. She had almost forgotten about the looming dark cloud that is Jungkook.

"What happened?" She asks seriously, leaning closer as the suspense builds. Her heart is racing as she pictures Jungkook standing over a pile of bodies, holding his hand out for her.

"He's in Korea,"

Luna sighs, dropping her head and holding it between her hands. It didn't take him long; she was expecting that. But it's only been a week.

"How close are we talking?" She asks, looking up at them warily.

"He's flying into Busan tonight," Hoseok explains, "Someone has lied to him,"

She shivers, knowing exactly what Jungkook does to liars. She's seen it firsthand.

What scares her most about Jungkook coming to look for her isn't his skill. He is actually lacking a lot in the area of skill in comparison to Luna, Jimin, and Hoseok. It's his thirst for blood. He doesn't need to bottle his humanity or bury his morals. He receives genuine enjoyment from the act of killing and watching the light leave someone's eyes.

She is also terrified of seeing him at this point. After all, the last time she spoke to him was when she broke up with him.

"What I'm curious about is why he is here," Jimin says, an uncharacteristically nervous expression on his face, "Who sent him here?"

"Well, it's either your brother or he's come here on his own," Hoseok expresses, pointing at Luna, "But would RM send Jungkook after you?"

RM, the name her brother chose to be known by in the criminal circles he frequents. Now that their father is dead, he has taken over The Reapers. She knows him as Kim Namjoon. They were close when she was younger, but they drifted as their father gave him more responsibilities.

Some brother he is.

"I doubt he would," Luna says slowly, "He doesn't like Jungkook..."

"Well, only you can get in contact with him," Hoseok says, "I'm not high enough in the food chain to have direct contact with him,"

"If I contact him, he'll find me," Luna expresses.

"But... Jungkook is finding you," Jimin points out.

"He'll send me back," Luna says softly, "I can't risk it. We'll deal with Jungkook if he finds me. For now, let's just leave it,"

"Understood," Hoseok and Jimin nod, accepting her decision straight away.
