Chapter 52

GANG ATTACK GONE WRONG: THE EYE IS FOUND DEAD

13th May 2023: In a surprising turn of events, The Eye is found dead in a building on the outskirts of Seoul. Late Wednesday evening, the police were called about a gang fight in progress. When they arrived, they found 20+ dead civilians along with the body of a man that has been identified as The Eye by previously affiliated members. The dead civilians all had known criminal histories, so the police commissioner has labelled this a gang attack gone wrong. Click here for more...

. . . . .

...1 month after the attack...

"How are you feeling?" Yoongi asks, leaning back in his seat as he sips his coffee. His sunglasses glint in the sun as he tilts his head to take in the warmth, a cool breeze gracing them.

"Pretty good," Taehyung replies, sighing deeply, "I've never felt better, honestly,"

They are sitting out the front of their favourite café, enjoying their brief lunch break. Taehyung would rather be enjoying this time with Luna, but it is hard for them to organise lunch breaks now that she doesn't work with them. Luckily, spending this time with Yoongi has strengthened their friendship, creating a strong bond between them.

"Same, honestly," Yoongi chuckles, "Work has been easier, yet more enjoyable. I've become stronger, healthier, and more aware. It's great. How is your training going?"

"I love it," Taehyung grins, "Ever since I lasted 2 minutes in that fight with Faith, I've become famous at the Training centre,"

Yoongi grins, recalling the moment he realised he had won the bet. Luna looked pretty annoyed that Taehyung lasted so long, but also proud of him for coming so far. But she has started training more, especially after she received more sparring requests.

"Have you needed to go to church for any of your cases?" Taehyung asks, grinning. Yoongi rolls his eyes, taking a sip from his coffee before responding.

"Mr Lee isn't here, we don't need to do the stupid code words," He grumbles, glancing around them. There is no one within earshot and no security cameras. Do they really need to talk like this every time they are in public?

"I don't know, I like them," Taehyung shrugs, "Plus, it's our safety and life that is on the line with this shit. Isn't it better to be safe than sorry?"

Yoongi groans but doesn't respond. He doesn't want to admit he is right.

"Yes, a few cases," Yoongi answers, "Mostly with the corruption cases,"

"I heard Mr Lee put you in charge of the corruption task force?" Taehyung laughs, "How many more task forces are you going to be in charge of?"

"All of them," Yoongi smirks, "Because he's promoting me to Senior detective next week,"

"Oh wow, congratulations! We should celebrate tonight!" Taehyung cheers, pulling out his phone to text Luna.

"Yeah, I'm pretty excited," Yoongi sighs, "A little more work, but it's what I want to do,"

"What's next after that?" Taehyung asks, "What are your dreams?"

Yoongi considers this for a moment. What is his dream?

"Honestly, just senior detective," Yoongi shrugs, "Any higher and I won't be able to chase bad guys,"

"True," Taehyung nods, "I want to be a senior prosecutor, then a judge,"

Yoongi frowns, tilting his head at him.

"Don't you specifically have to be a lawyer to become a judge?"

"No," Taehyung shakes his head, "I have to practice law for 3 years, then get approval from the National Board of Admission,"

"Huh," Yoongi shrugs, "I think you'd be a good judge,"

"I know right," Taehyung smirks smugly, "Anyway, we should head back to work,"

Yoongi glances at his watch, sighing deeply. He stands up, grumbling about his sore muscles and short break time. Taehyung follows him, commenting on his old man behaviour, and they begin making their way back to work.

After everything that had happened, they were expecting it to all become a lot more complicated. Taehyung specifically thought he would question his morality a lot more than he has. But he has changed and grown, especially working alongside Yoongi. Some people might say 'Accepting that some people deserve to die' is not really growth, but the correlating behaviours within himself surrounding this revelation in his moral code is where he has grown.

Yoongi thought working as a Reaper was going to come back to haunt him in other ways. He was expecting to be fired by now, revealed to the public as a 'corrupt officer'.

But realistically, there are so many Reapers working in the police force that he is unsure who knows and who doesn't anymore.

Luna has expanded The Reapers even further than her brother, involving people who work in various different careers, even jobs that RM didn't think would be valuable. Including, but not limited to, news media, technology, and fashion corporations.

One day, it will all be revealed, they are certain of that at least. But by then, will it be a bad thing or a good thing? Will the assassinations be revealed as well? Will they all be fired for corruption? What will happen to the world?

Who knows. They'll figure that out in the future when the day comes.

Until then, they just do what they can with the cards they have been dealt and the cards they have collected.

. . . . .

It is a beautiful day today. It's a pity.

Not a cloud in the sky, the sun beaming down on them warmly. The breeze is cool, giving the sensation of spring in the air. Even the public seems to be happy, with people meeting all throughout the city with these big, beautiful smiles on their faces. It's too beautiful.

Too happy. Too Beautiful.

It has been a year since he died. 1 long painful year full of painful reminders and painful memories. The ache has eased since then, but it still hurts.

Taehyung and Luna went through his photo album last night, tears of laughter and sadness coating their skin. They cradled each other, reminded each other of the good times, and supported each other through the grief.

But, of course, today just had to be beautiful for him. All perfect and sunny, just like him. Like the weather is his warm embrace. A perfect depiction, a little reminder.

Taehyung pulls into the parking lot for the park, right next to the Columbarium, sighing deeply as he looks up at the building. He turns his attention to Luna, smiling sadly.

"Ready?" He mutters soothingly. She nods, sliding out of the car before she gets cold feet.

The building is magnificent, like a white marble church, or a European castle. Everything is white stone, with neat gardens full of flowers and maintained hedges. It's perfect.

They make their way into the bright building and up to the 2nd level. When they reach the room, Luna spots his memorial space, instantly recognising his little urn and the beautiful smiling picture she placed there. Luckily, the area is currently empty, so they have this time with him alone.

"Hey, Park Jimin," Luna smiles, moving towards the wall containing his memorial space, "How are you?"

She smiles sadly, a tear sliding down her cheek as she eyes the items in there. She placed his picture, his urn, some plastic roses, and the little keychain that she was carrying around. The staff keep the spaces clean, which makes Luna feel better.

She spends time explaining how she has been and what she has been up to. Taehyung joins in, telling him funny stories about Yoongi, and how he wishes Jimin met him. They spend almost an hour laughing and crying, standing in front of the wall, wishing he could respond, wondering where he is and if he is okay. Is he in some afterlife, looking down at them with that cheeky grin? Or are they talking to these objects, holding onto false hope?

Eventually, Taehyung leads her out of the room, cradling her as all her emotions come rearing up again. She sniffles, watching as he leads her to another room.

No... I don't want to see him...

Please...

They turn the corner and find themselves faced with another wall. Luna's eyes are drawn to 2 specific memorial spaces on the wall. She slowly moves towards the one near the floor, kneeling in front of the picture and the urn, breathing deeply.

She has tried to not think about him for a long time, but Taehyung brought him up last night. He recommended that she visits him, for her sake.

She musters up her courage and speaks up.

"Hey, Hobi," She mumbles, "It's been a while, huh? Your death anniversary will be in a few days,"

She stares at his picture, her mind wandering to the questions she had back then. But there is no point in thinking about that. In all this time she could never get the answers she wanted, so what is the point in overthinking it endlessly? There is a reason she is here.

"I... I forgive you, Hobi," Luna whispers, "I forgive you for your decisions... I forgive you for your actions... and I hope you have changed... wherever you are,"

His picture continues to smile up at her, his eyes bright, his beaming grin cheerful.

Yeah... I forgive you. I need to forgive you for myself.

She looks up at Taehyung, only to find him staring at the other memorial space, his arms folded. His jaw is tense, his anger palpable from here.

He forgave Hoseok before Luna did, but he could never find it in himself to forgive him.

Luna gets up, moving to stand beside Taehyung, looking at the memorial space sadly.

"Jeon Jungkook..." Luna sighs, "How long until his anniversary?"

"A few months," Taehyung mutters, "I have it on my calendar,"

She was surprised to find that Jungkook's Will ended up leading to Namjoon, so she just had him cremated and placed here. Taehyung was angry that she put him here, but she couldn't think of anywhere else to place him.

She was also surprised to find out exactly how much Taehyung hates Jungkook. Sure, after everything that happened, that would make sense. But she can't bring herself to hate Jungkook. She wishes things were different and that she could have saved him. But, like her therapist keeps saying, she can't save everyone. One day, Taehyung will be able to forgive him, like he forgave Hoseok.

Luna slides her hand into Taehyung's, nudging him so they can leave. Reluctantly, he lets her lead him away. Once they leave the room, he redirects them, leading them further down the long stone halls.

"One more," He mutters.

After another flight of stairs, they reach another room. Frowning, she looks around the space, trying to find who they are meant to be visiting this time.

Eventually, she finds it.

"Ah," Luna smirks, moves towards the wall and bows, "Hello, Kim Seokjin,"

She looks at the picture of her old boss, the original Eye, and smiles sadly. She knew him for a long time; she never expected him to be The Eye. But here he is, the consequences of his actions. It has been so long since she has thought about him, but the sight of his face brings reminders of so many things that didn't need to happen. Her trauma, Hoseok's betrayal, and Jimin's death... his hand was present in all of her most painful memories.

"Forgive him," Taehyung gestures. Luna frowns at him, feeling her anger rise in her chest.

"Why? I don't want to," Luna snaps.

Taehyung turns to the wall, clasping his hands in front of him.

"Kim Seokjin," He sighs, "I forgive you,"

He breathes deeply, his shoulders slumping slightly from relief. He smiles at her, his eyes twinkling knowingly.

"Your turn," He moves aside, "You need it,"

She steps forward, looking at Seokjin's bright eyes. He looks so happy in this photo. Who chose this picture? His family? Maybe Jungkook?

"Kim... Seokjin," Luna breathes, "I... I'll... I will forgive you,"

"Luna..."

"No..." Luna turns to smile at Taehyung, "Not yet,"

Taehyung watches her for a moment before he nods, accepting her answer.

"All right," He sighs, grasping her hand, "Ready for our picnic?"

Luna nods vigorously, allowing him to lead her out of the room, down the halls, and out of the building. As soon as they pass through the ornate doors, she can feel the pressure in her chest lessening.

It will be okay, one day.

They head to Taehyung's car and grab the food bag and the picnic set before heading out into the park beside the Columbarium.

They find a comfortable patch of grass in some shade and set up, ready to enjoy their lunch in the beautiful weather.

They spend ages sitting here, snacking on the delicious food they made, reminiscing about the year they had, and gossiping about Yoongi and Namjoon.

Their relationship has miraculously strengthened after joining The Reapers together. Their communication is a lot better than it was back in University. Everything seems to be going great for them. Even Luna can't think of a reason that anything will fall apart.

Her mind wanders to their university days. Taehyung was this strange, fluffy-haired weirdo who kept following her around. He was narrow-minded, unable to open himself up to the possibility of different ways of thinking.

Luna was the same. She closed herself off to everyone and had a strong black-and-white mindset. They have changed so much since then. Luna can't deny how much she has changed, even though she can't really feel it. Taehyung and Yoongi constantly remind her of her ever-shifting personality. It doesn't help when Namjoon tells them any and all funny stories from when she was a kid.

She does wish Jimin could be here, by her side, as her friend, watching him grow alongside her. He would be ecstatic about her comfort with hugging these days. But this thought doesn't bring her as much pain as it used to.

They all continue to grow and learn, their lives shifting and gliding by, just like everyone else. Yoongi is enjoying his new senior detective position, Namjoon has started to allow himself to be vulnerable with his loved ones, which has led him straight to his current partner. Taehyung is on the way to being the judge he has always wanted to be.

And Luna? She is just living day by day, watching The Reapers grow in numbers, her little assassins training really well. Taehyung and Luna have even managed to purchase a larger house with a passcoded gate, ready for possible future needs.

She will never forget the people that have entered and left her life, the people who pushed and moulded her into the person she is today. Her friends, her enemies, strangers, everyone she has lost.

They changed her, created her, and instilled a reality that she never thought possible. A complete merger of her two existences – Lee Luna and Kim Faith. She never expected to be in the position she is in – Faith, infamous assassin, leader of The Reapers, completely in love with V the deadly prince.

"Hey, Kitty," Taehyung murmurs, pulling her from her daydreaming. Luna frowns, tilting her head at him. He is leaning back on his hands, watching her carefully with those dark eyes.

"You haven't called me that in a long time," She chuckles.

"I know," He grins, "What are you thinking about?"

Luna sighs, trying to find the words for the sensation moving through her. Contentment? Self-reflection? Fulfilment?

"Just thinking about life, I guess," Luna chuckles, "What are you thinking about?"

"You," He smirks, "Us,"

"Oh?" Luna laughs, "Why?"

Taehyung shuffles, moving so he is laying on his side facing her, his head resting on his propped arm.

"I want to tell you something," He mumbles, "But you need to take it seriously,"

Her smile slides from her face. She adjusts herself so she is laying on her stomach, her face resting in her hands, so they are at eye level.

"What's up?" She murmurs.

He leans closer, brushing his nose against hers.

"I love you," He whispers softly, his breath gliding over her lips.

"Promise?" Luna giggles.

Taehyung wraps his arms around her, tugging her into his arms. He places a gentle kiss on the top of her head, smiling contently.

"Promise," He whispers.

"I love you too," She smiles.

Anything could happen in her life – the end of The Reapers, the revelation of their existence, anything at all. But as long as he is right here beside her through it all, none of it matters. He is her safe space, her comfort, and her vulnerability.

Her freedom.

Her Re-beginning.

(A/N) I don't know if this is a bad ending or a good ending? But I like it.

Thank you for reading this story to the end! If you haven't commented, let me know what you think of it.

This is one of those stories I'd like to one day turn into a novel, or a series, so I'd love some feedback – I'll literally accept all feedback, whether I agree or not, I'd love to hear how this is being interpreted. 🥰

Check out my other stories! I don't have a specific genre I stick to, but I do like most of my other stories.
