Chapter 51
"It's done," Luna mumbles, wiping her eyes with her sleeve as she slides out the back door of the building. She slides her gun into her holster, hiding it under her jacket.
"Good," Namjoon replies, "Rendezvous at the Training centre. Make sure you're not followed, we'll try to meet you there,"
"Understood," Luna mumbles.
"Faith... are you okay?" Namjoon mumbles.
"No," She breathes before quickly hanging up the phone. She doesn't want to talk about this just yet.
She can hear The Reapers from where she is, rushing from the fight they started. She can hear the members of The Crimson Silence yelling after them, their voices limited and weak after the attack. She wonders if any of them are dead. But she can't make out what they are yelling.
Maybe she was the only one who killed people tonight.
After stumbling down the alleyway for a moment, she starts to run.
Every time she blinks, she can see his body slumped to the side of the chair, his empty eyes staring up at her, a bullet hole between his eyes.
Why didn't he stop? Why couldn't he just change?
He had reached a point beyond reform, but when did he pass the point of no return? Was it when he received his first official job from Grim? Was it when he killed his brother? Or was it before all of that? Was he simply doomed to die a criminal's death from the start?
She wants these answers, she needs these answers. She needs something solid to cling to, a reason that she couldn't save him. Could it really be that she failed him? Like she failed Jimin.
Don't think like that, She chastises herself, it's not your fault.
She slides in behind a dumpster as the sirens get louder, moving closer to her location. They speed past her, turning down the street The Reapers were in, but they are long gone. Once the coast is clear, she sprints in the opposite direction, taking side streets, avoiding the main areas.
Soon, she finds herself in an area crawling with nightlife. People shuffle past her, barely offering her a glance. She moves through them, joining the moving crowd of people, heading to the nearest Taxi area.
She feels emotionally numb like her entire life has been leading up to this point. Now that it is all over, where does she go from here?
I should get in contact with my old therapist.
She hails a taxi and jumps in, giving them an address near her Training centre.
The taxi zooms off, leaving Luna's mind to wander to places she doesn't want to address anymore. She pulls out her phone, hoping for a distraction.
She manages to find one, but not the sort of distraction she wanted.
"Sir, can you head to the nearest Hospital instead please," Luna demands, feeling panicked.
"Yes, ma'am," The driver responds, changing lanes.
She thanks him, staring down at her phone, her anxiety increasing with each passing second.
RM: We'll be at the hospital. V got stabbed.
. . . . .
Luna bursts through the hospital doors, rushing to the receptionist counter.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The person asks.
"My friend came in with a stab wound," Luna says quickly, "Kim Taehyung,"
They type at their computer for a moment, the seconds passing by painfully slowly. Luna taps her foot rapidly, the urge to jump this desk increasing.
"He's in ward 4, room 20," The receptionist says. They turn to gesturing down the hall and possibly explain how to get there, but Luna doesn't wait around to listen. She sprints, running down the hall to get to the elevator.
DeJa'Vu. That is the only sensation rushing through her body right now. The memory of Jungkook stabbing Taehyung's chest and Taehyung's gurgled and strained voice. The blood on her hands and the paleness of his skin. The beeping machines, the panicked waiting. His words to her... the pain and the relief, only to be followed by more pain. The blame she felt, the blame in his words, the accusations in his parent's eyes.
Can she really face this again?
After following the signs easily, she reaches room 20 as fast as she can. Before she can open the door, a doctor and a few nurses open it, moving out of the room. They look up at her, their eyes wide with surprise.
"Oh, are you here to see Mr Kim?" The nurse asks as the doctor and the other nurses file past her, moving away with a trolley.
"Yes," She breathes.
"I'm sorry, he has enough visitors for the moment," The nurse says firmly, holding up her hand.
Instantly, Luna has visions of how she will get past this nurse. She doesn't look too strong, but what about the security guards?
She tenses, glaring down at the lady. She opens her mouth to speak, but Namjoon peeks his head out.
"It's okay," Namjoon smiles, "She is with us,"
As genuine and considerate as his smile is, there is a hint of warning behind his tone. He rests his hand on the nurse's shoulder, tilting his head. The nurse hesitantly looks up at Namjoon before nodding.
"I'm sorry," She mutters, "Should I send in a nurse?" She asks, gesturing to Luna's various injuries.
"Soon," Namjoon replies.
"Okay," She bows before scuttling away. Luna frowns, confused by her behaviour. Surely people who don't know who Namjoon is wouldn't react like that, right?
"Come in," Namjoon smiles, moving aside so Luna can enter the secluded hospital room.
Pushing aside the strange situation, Luna bursts into the room, spotting Taehyung immediately. This room reminds her of the last hospital room she found him in, a painful reminder. Luckily, this room is larger.
Her heart beats violently against her chest as she takes in the environment.
Yoongi is sitting in the seat beside the bed, talking cheerfully with Taehyung. Yoongi has an ice pack against his jaw, a Steri-strip on his eyebrow, and a bruise forming under his eye. He has a few cuts and bruises forming everywhere else, but he looks fine.
Namjoon also looks pretty beat up. He has a bandage around his hand and a large dressing strip peeking out of his shirt. He shuffles uncomfortably, indicating possible bruised ribs.
Other than that, he looks fine.
"Yoongi," Namjoon says, "Let's leave them," he gestures to Luna before giving Taehyung a small smile.
"Sure," Yoongi says cheerfully, standing up and moving around the bed.
He pauses in front of Luna, gently wrapping one of his arms around her shoulders, pulling her in for a hug.
"Success?" He whispers.
"Yeah," She replies, sighing as she returns his hug. He steps away, grinning happily.
"Great," He looks to Namjoon, "Coffee?"
"Sounds good," Namjoon chuckles.
They leave the room, closing the door behind them.
Luna returns her attention to Taehyung, fiddling nervously as she slowly approaches the bed.
He is sitting up, mostly, laying on the bed at an incline. He looks pretty beat up, but better than Namjoon and Yoongi. She can't see his wound or any evidence of him being stabbed.
"How are you?" Taehyung asks, grinning at her. Her aching chest eases a bit, but it doesn't go away.
"Good," Luna smiles, "I was... successful,"
Taehyung sighs, lifting his arms and patting his chest, motioning for a hug. She moves towards him, gently laying on his chest. He sighs, burying his face into her shoulder.
"I'm glad it's all over," He mutters, "It's sad that it came to this..."
"Yeah..." She whispers. After a moment, she pulls away and sits on the edge of his bed, looking him up and down. He rests his hand on her lower back and her leg, still smiling.
"Where did you get stabbed?" She asks.
"Oh, my arm," Taehyung lifts his sleeve, revealing a small dressing, "I won't feel it until later... they drugged me up," He chuckles.
"I see," Luna smiles sadly, looking over his bruises and cuts.
"What's wrong?" He asks, frowning at her expression.
"It's just... this all reminds me of... that time..." Luna explains, watching him warily. He sighs, pulling her in for another hug.
"This is nothing like that time," He mutters, his breath tickling her neck, "I was scared and immature... I definitely don't blame you for anything that has happened. I got stabbed because I got cocky,"
Frowning, Luna pulls away, folding her arms.
"What did you do?" She snaps.
Grimacing, Taehyung goes on to explain what sounds like a heroic story of protection and defence, fighting against a really tall guy with a small pocketknife. Picking apart his story, Luna is able to determine that Taehyung told Yoongi to leave this guy to him, and so he got stabbed.
Taehyung laughs as Luna smacks his leg, chastising him for doing something so reckless.
"You could have died!" Luna snaps angrily, glaring at Taehyung.
"Listen, I have had too many painkillers to feel guilty," Taehyung grins.
"Well then," Luna smirks, "I'll teach you a lesson when you are better,"
At this, Taehyung's expression shifts slightly, a brief flicker of fear crossing his face, only to be replaced with a cocky smirk.
"We'll see," He smirks. Suddenly, he notices the patches of blood on Luna's shirt, "Luna! What happened?"
Not long after, a nurse comes in to address Luna's many injuries. She is offered a bed, which they are able to slide into this room.
Namjoon, Yoongi, and Taehyung watch on in shock, taking in her state as the nurse and doctor run through her extensive list of injuries, most of which were hidden by her clothing.
She has stab wounds on her waist, her thigh, and her arm that are deep enough for stitches. Her jaw and cheekbone are swollen, but luckily not broken. Her eyebrow has split from where she head-butted Jungkook, which they place a Steri-strip on. She has a few more cuts that the nurse cleans before she is offered a shower.
After an hour, she is all cleaned up, an IV in her arm as she sits on the edge of her bed, making the nurse frustrated.
"Miss Lee... you need to lay down... you have stitches in your side," The nurse mutters, stressfully trying to get Luna to lie down.
"It'll be fine," Luna mumbles dismissively, "They haven't ripped,"
"You don't know that," The nurse retorts, placing her hands on her hips.
"Oh, trust me, I will know," Luna mutters, glaring at the nurse.
The nurse glares back, not backing down from the confrontation. Luna looks to the others for backup, but they just look at her with concern. Taehyung cocks his eyebrow at her, sitting on the edge of his bed. She rolls her eyes, lying down on the hospital bed grumpily. The nurse adjusts her blanket, smiling triumphantly.
Yoongi and Namjoon titter to themselves, watching as the nurse checks her vitals before leaving the room.
Once the door closes, Namjoon moves over so he is standing beside her bed, his arms folded as he stares down at her firmly. She sighs, knowing he is about to tell her off.
"Luna..." He starts.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Luna snaps, "I should have been more careful, and I should have gone to the hospital straight away,"
"Yes," Namjoon chuckles, "You are in a worse state than Taehyung... what happened?"
Hesitantly, Luna explains everything that happened with Jungkook and everyone she encountered on her way. All the people she killed, the way she killed them, everything. She averts her eyes from Taehyung and Yoongi at these points, not wanting to see the look of disgust in their eyes. She knows what they think about killing.
Once she finishes, she looks up at Namjoon, who has a look of smug pride.
"I knew you could do it," Namjoon sighs, "But I'm sure you're still struggling with it,"
Luna nods, turning her attention to Yoongi and Taehyung.
Yoongi's expression is blank, but there is a tinge of paleness to his complexion. Taehyung on the other hand looks distraught, as if she just told him that she murdered his family.
"I guess... there was no other way..." Yoongi gulps, "I saw some Reapers being... brutal... as well,"
He nods to himself as if he is trying to convince himself that it's fine. After a moment, he stands taller, giving her a small smile.
"But... that's the mafia life, right?" He chuckles, "Better than you dying,"
"True," Namjoon smirks.
They all look at Taehyung, waiting for him to explode at them. He has become paler, his pupils quivering as he looks around at them. He sighs, resting his face in one of his hands.
"Taehyung..." Luna croaks, "Don't hate me..."
Instantly, he looks up at her, frowning deeply.
"Why...?" He looks around the room, slowly becoming aware of the expectations behind their expressions, "Oh... no, that's not..."
Taehyung rests his elbows on his legs, his eyes firmly on her.
"I already knew what you were going to do," Taehyung explains, "I'm just... you could have died... they had metal poles and knives... what if they overpowered you and stabbed you somewhere vital? I just can't..."
Taehyung continues to mumble and rant about the dangerous situation she was in, becoming more and more irate at Namjoon for asking her to do that.
Luna, Namjoon, and Yoongi, however, stare at Taehyung like he has grown a second head. How is it that Yoongi couldn't stomach the thought of her killing so aggressively, yet Taehyung is fine with it? When did he change so much?
Taehyung stares at Namjoon, waiting for him to respond to his angry rant about him being an irresponsible boss. Namjoon clears his throat, smirking slightly.
"Sorry, Taehyung, it won't happen again," He chuckles, "You're really okay with what she did?"
Taehyung blinks, glancing at Luna and Yoongi before responding.
"Of course," Taehyung shrugs, "It was her or them... that's the job, right?"
Suddenly, they all begin laughing. Luna and Namjoon half breathe mirthfully, trying to not hurt their abdomen injuries. Yoongi moves towards Taehyung, pulling him in for a half hug.
"Wow, I wasn't expecting that from you," He laughs.
They continue to chat comfortably, admiring Taehyung for his new perspective, making fun of Namjoon for apologising to Taehyung, and laughing at Yoongi for having a weak stomach.
Luna watches them interact, feeling the acknowledgement of change in the air. Yoongi has become stronger and more confident, Namjoon has become more comfortable with his friendships and emotions, and Taehyung has opened himself up to a whole new world.
Has she changed at all over the years?
. . . . .
A week later...
"Do you really have to return already?" Luna pouts, looking up at Namjoon sadly.
"Duh," Namjoon smirks, "Just because I came running when someone messed up, doesn't mean I don't have work to do,"
Luna slaps Namjoon's arm, frowning up at him. He winces, still chuckling at her.
"Anyway," Namjoon sighs, "I'm only a call away, keep me updated on what you're doing. If I don't get a call from you after a week, I'll call you and I expect an update,"
"Okay," Luna sighs, rolling her eyes, "I promise to be a better worker, boss,"
"I'll make sure she's updating you," Taehyung chimes in, placing his hand on her hip as he stands beside her.
"Good," Namjoon grins, "How are you feeling today?"
"Fine," Taehyung chuckles awkwardly, "Just... yeah... I'm fine,"
Namjoon and Luna smirk knowingly. Yesterday, Taehyung was taken off his pain medication, and he was not doing well. It was as if he only just realised he actually got stabbed. It was pretty funny to witness, but Taehyung was disappointed that his weekend was ruined by it.
"No pain today?" Yoongi asks, standing beside Taehyung, grinning wickedly. Taehyung tenses, Yoongi's one and only warning sign. He takes off in an instant, sprinting around the room to get away from Taehyung, like a spry cat.
Luna and Namjoon watch them, laughing at their antics. They watch as Taehyung catches him, pulling him in for a tight hug. Yoongi pushes at his chest, screaming for him to let him go.
They turn away from the hilarious sight, looking back at each other.
"You don't have to be so sad about me leaving every time," Namjoon sighs, "If you keep this up, I'll have to move here,"
Luna slumps her shoulders, looking up at him pleadingly.
"Please don't go," She sniffles dramatically, "I'll miss you,"
Namjoon sighs, pulling her in for a hug, but Luna knows better.
"Didn't work?" She asks.
"Nope," He chuckles. He steps away, picking up his suitcase.
"See you soon," Namjoon grins, turning to leave. The people he brought with him are out in the car, waiting for him to say his goodbyes.
"Bye RM!" Yoongi calls out, clawing away from Taehyung.
"Bye-bye!" Taehyung yells, clinging to Yoongi.
Namjoon chuckles, waving at them before turning and leaving the Training centre, a slight spring in his step. Luna watches him go sadly, pouting a little. Her new infatuation with the concept of having a good relationship with family is made harder by Namjoon living so far away. But it gets easier. She is just glad he is a positive part of her life. Over 5 years ago, she never would have thought that this was possible.
"Are you okay?" Luna jumps, startled by Taehyung's voice in her ear. He hugs her from behind, swaying slightly as he kisses her shoulder.
"Yeah," She smiles, "Ready to get your ass kicked?"
She can feel his grin on her skin before he takes a step back, spinning her around to face him.
"Oh, it's on big boss," He grins cheekily, quickly giving her a peck on the lips.
"I bet V will last 2 minutes!" Yoongi calls out, grabbing their attention. They turn to find Yoongi socialising with a few other Reaper members, who must have just come up from the basement.
"Nah, have you seen him fight?" Chris scoffs, "1 minute,"
"Yah..." Taehyung scoffs.
"No way, he'll last 5 minutes at least!" Han giggles.
"Dude, you think too highly of him," Lee Know rolls his eyes, "30 seconds. No more, no less,"
"YAH!" Taehyung yells. They look at him, smirking slightly, "What makes you think I won't win?"
They look from Taehyung, to Luna, then back at each other. As soon as they make eye contact, they burst out laughing. Han falls down to the ground with Chris, clutching his stomach cheerfully.
Grumbling, Taehyung starts storming towards them, murderous intent vibrating off of him. They continue giggling, rushing to head back downstairs.
Luna rolls her eyes, following them.
This is going to be fun.
(A/N) So, the next chapter should be the last one, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to wrap this up perfectly, so there might be another chapter after that.
See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
