Chapter 49

TW: Structured violence

Luna paces the Training centre nervously, her attention firmly on the front doors. Any second now, Namjoon will burst through those doors. She is beyond anxious, unsure of what she should expect from him when he enters. Is he going to be angry? Will he blame her for Vanilla's death?

He called earlier to let her know he has arrived in Korea, and she told him everything that has happened while he was flying.

The police had arrived not long after Luna fled with Snow. Sadly, Jungkook was not apprehended during this. They did collect all of the restrained followers of The Eye, but they didn't get any useful information from them. None of them will be able to reform with Luna, so prison is all that's left for them. Taehyung will prosecute some of them later on in the week.

"Faith..." Taehyung sighs, "Come sit down,"

She looks towards him, spotting him sitting on a mat nearby with Yoongi. They are watching her pace the room silently as if waiting for her to have a nervous breakdown.

She pouts, moving towards them. Her legs are killing her, aching from the continuous movement. She has had trouble sleeping ever since Namjoon first called her, spending most of her time biting her nails and nervously pacing whatever room she is in.

Just as she is about to sit down with them, she hears the doors open. She spins around, spotting Namjoon waltzing into the room, a small suitcase in one hand and two men behind him.

His eyes land on her, a smile slowly stretching across his face.

"Faith," He sighs, moving towards her, "I'm here,"

She rushes forward and hugs him, still feeling nervous.

"I'm sorry," She murmurs, stepping away, "I should have just shot him..."

"It's okay, we'll deal with it," He replies, "We need to call him,"

Luna nods, looking at Taehyung and Yoongi. Namjoon follows her gaze, smiling kindly at them.

"Suga, V," He waves, "Want to join us in the office?"

Taehyung and Yoongi look at each other, confused by the suggestion. They return their attention to Namjoon, nodding slowly.

They slowly get to their feet as Namjoon and Luna move towards her office. Namjoon tells his men to go do something, leaving them alone.

Well, they're not completely alone. The Training centre in the basement has teachers and students already living there. This makes organising these things easier but also means they have to use their Reaper names more frequently.

Yoongi and Taehyung follow them into the office, Namjoon closing the door behind them.

"Right," Namjoon sighs, pulling out his phone as he sits beside Taehyung and Yoongi, Luna behind the desk, "Let's call this asshole,"

"Do you want us to say anything...?" Taehyung asks hesitantly.

"No, stay silent during the call," Namjoon says firmly, "I just want you in the loop,"

They nod, watching as Namjoon calls Jungkook.

It doesn't take long for Jungkook to answer, chuckling before he even speaks.

"Ah, Mr RM?" Jungkook laughs, "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Hello, Jungkook," Namjoon replies blankly, "I have been informed that we need to meet up,"

"I go by The Eye these days," Jungkook replies firmly, "Why would I meet with you? So I can end up like Jin?"

"So we can end all this violence," Namjoon explains.

"Why would I want it to end?" He chuckles, "I'm not an idiot, RM. If we meet, you will kill me,"

"Maybe," Namjoon sneers, "If you'd like we can just make a deal right now?"

"Oh, okay," Jungkook replies nonchalantly, "What do you want?"

"Here are your options," Namjoon mutters, his voice dropping multiple octaves, "You let me kill you quickly, or we'll hunt you down and torture you to death,"

"Wow," Jungkook laughs loudly, "Big words from a little man who doesn't know where I am,"

"What makes you think I don't know where you are, Jungkook?" Namjoon murmurs, "How do you know I can't see you?"

The line is silent for a moment before Jungkook laughs again.

"Ooo scary boogie man! I'm trembling!" He chuckles "Don't make me laugh, RM. Stop wasting my time with these pathetic little threats. Call me when you grow a pair and become a real crime lord,"

"You little..."

Before Namjoon can finish, Jungkook hangs up, leaving them all stunned.

"Well... that didn't go to plan..." Yoongi mutters, looking at Namjoon awkwardly, "Plan B?"

Namjoon holds up a finger, silencing Yoongi. They watch him for a moment, unsure of what they're waiting for.

Namjoon is staring down at his phone expectantly as if he thinks Jungkook will call him back or something.

Is he trying to calm himself? Has he lost his mind?

"RM?" Luna starts, but she is interrupted by Namjoon's phone ringing, surprising all of them. They watch as Namjoon, a cocky smirk playing on his lips, answers the phone, bringing it to his ear.

"Did he do it?" Namjoon asks. Slowly, he grins, "Good... keep me updated..."

He hangs up, turning his attention to the others.

"He fled his current hideout," Namjoon says firmly, "I made a few calls and gained access to the traffic cameras around Seoul. When he stops, we'll go to him,"

Namjoon drops his phone as if it's a mic and he's dropping it.

"Boom," He grins.

"Wow, you're a genius," Taehyung mutters, his eyes wide with adoration.

"Calm down, calm down," Namjoon leans forward, his eyes on Taehyung and Yoongi, "I have a request for you two,"

"What is it?" Yoongi asks, frowning a little at the angry glint in Namjoon's eyes.

"I need you two to come with us during the next attack," Namjoon says firmly, "You're both currently a little more trained than the other Reapers I have available here. I need fighters,"

Luna frowns at Namjoon in confusion. Sure, Yoongi went to the police academy and excelled in the physical section of the training. But Taehyung? He's a lawyer. He hasn't received any training.

"What do you mean?" Luna asks, "T – I mean... V isn't trained,"

Taehyung averts his eyes, fiddling with his shirt.

"Do you want to tell her?" Namjoon asks. Taehyung shakes his head, making Namjoon sigh, "V did a lot of martial arts training in America when he was studying,"

Luna looks at Taehyung, her eyes wide with confusion. Why didn't he tell her? Why didn't he want to tell her?

"V?" Luna frowns, "Why didn't you want to tell me?"

"I..." Taehyung gulps, "I did it because of everything that happened with Jungkook at university... it was a trauma thing... I didn't want to remind you of all that,"

Luna nods along, smiling at him.

"It's okay," She places her hand on his, "I'm glad,"

Taehyung lifts his gaze to her, smiling. She is more than glad that he's trained – she's ecstatic. Now he can defend himself. But in a gang war like this, does she really want him involved?

"So," Namjoon clears his throat, "Is that a yes?"

Yoongi and Taehyung look at each other, mirroring a look of determination. They return their attention to Namjoon.

"Of course," Yoongi nods.

"Definitely," Taehyung grins.

"Perfect," Namjoon claps his hands, "Now, we just have to wait and see where he stops and go from there,"

. . . . .

Luna, of course, is not happy about the new plan. She doesn't want Taehyung and Yoongi to come with them for the next attack. Every time they remind her that they will be there, either by doing additional training with Namjoon or the teachers, or by just talking to her about it, the only thing she can think of is Vanilla's dead body.

What if they get hurt? What if they die? Their blood will be on her hands. She knows that she will likely be reactive and blame Namjoon for it all, which she doesn't want to do either.

They do fight well. Luna watched them training in the basement with Namjoon and they fought amazingly – better than she was expecting. Taehyung isn't great with a gun, but in hand-to-hand combat, he does well. How did he get so good?

Namjoon might have been going easy on him though.

Yoongi has the experience and police training, plus a few additional classes over the years.

But they could still get hurt or killed. Being a good fighter isn't the only necessity for this type of work. Taehyung has no instincts, and Yoongi hasn't needed to actually fight considering he's an officer of the law.

Street fighting has no structure – it is life or death, and people fight that way. They'll play dirty and hit them where it hurts. They'll take any hit they can get, which is very different from structured martial arts training. Luna had to learn that the hard way.

Why won't they listen to her?

Now, Namjoon has called for her to speak to him in her office. She is sure that this means they have narrowed down Jungkook's current location.

She enters her office, gesturing for Namjoon to sit across from her before taking her seat. She watches him passively, still annoyed that he won't listen to her about Yoongi and Taehyung.

"Okay, the traffic control officer has come back to me," Namjoon says as he sits down, "We narrowed his location down to one specific block,"

"Where is he?" Luna asks.

"He seems to be crashing with that old Mafia family – The Crimson Silence," Namjoon sighs, "They were a huge criminal syndicate in Korea that The Reapers essentially demolished back when Dad was still alive,"

"Ah, I remember them," Luna frowns.

"They were a rich family back in the day. But after we sent J Hope here, they pretty much died off. Their main area of work was weapon imports, so J Hope took their sole income," Namjoon sighs, "These days they only do low-level crimes like theft and assault. Most of them joined The Eye or The Reapers, but I guess they hate us more,"

"So, they are harbouring The Eye?" Luna asks.

"Yeah," Namjoon smirks, "But they are far from powerful. We could easily ambush them,"

"No," Luna snaps, "That's reckless,"

"We'd only need The Reapers you had as backup the other night," Namjoon explains, "The Crimson Silence don't have access to guns these days. We could defeat them easily,"

"Are you 100% certain?" Luna scoffs.

"Of course," Namjoon retorts angrily, "I keep track of these things,"

"Still..." Luna mutters, "That's careless,"

Namjoon sighs, leaning on her desk as he stares at her, his eyebrow cocked in annoyance.

"Listen, I understand that you're against V and Suga joining this one," Namjoon says sternly, "But we are lacking trained individuals, and they are grown adults. I didn't force them, I offered it to them. Just like how V can't control you, you can't control him,"

Luna flushes, feeling torn between frustration and agreement. She said something similar to Taehyung about her becoming the leader of The Reapers, so why is she being so hypocritical? Yet, at the same time, she knows them better than Namjoon does. Well, she thought she did.

She just doesn't want to see them hurt.

"I'm not trying to control him," Luna responds angrily, "I'm worried. Plus, both V and Suga said that they would only join if they don't have to kill anyone,"

"They don't have to kill anyone," Namjoon groans with frustration, "Listen, we will be there to protect them. I trust them, just like how I trust you. Do you think it doesn't pain me to watch you go out and do dangerous shit? You're my little sister. I worry about you all the time. How would you feel if I prevented you from joining?"

"Well," Luna frowns, "That's different. I have trained my whole life,"

"Spar with them," Namjoon snaps, "You've watched them, now spar with them. Prove me wrong,"

Luna cocks her eyebrow and scoffs.

"I can take them easily," Luna mumbles.

"Then do it," Namjoon stands, "They're training right now,"

Luna stands, chuckling at the ludicrous suggestion.

They move out of her office, heading to the basement.

"What are the parameters?" She asks.

"30 seconds. If you can take them down in that time, I'll admit defeat and tell them to stay behind," Namjoon smirks, "I know you could take them down eventually, but that was the standard back in America with the teachers, so that's my standard now,"

"Individual sparring?"

"Obviously," Namjoon scoffs, "Can't judge them individually if you take them at the same time,"

So, they head down to the Training centre and towards the training room. It is a large section separated by different types of training and equipment. In one corner is a sparring mat.

Luna heads off to change while Namjoon motions for Yoongi and Taehyung to follow him, leading them to the sparring mat.

"As you both know, Faith is against you two attending," Namjoon begins, folding his arms as he looks at them, "I want you to prove her wrong,"

"Huh?" Taehyung's eyes go wide, "You want me to fight my girlfriend?"

"It's either that or stay behind," Namjoon shrugs.

Yoongi's eyes narrow, smirking slightly as he begins stretching.

"Full force?" Yoongi asks as Taehyung stares at him.

"Everything but death obviously," Namjoon smirks, "I wish you luck, but you just need to last longer than 30 seconds,"

"30 seconds?" Taehyung demands, "Seriously? She thinks she can take us down in that time?"

"She's the best," Namjoon shrugs, "That's the standard when a rookie is fighting a pro in our Training centre,"

Taehyung frowns, glaring at Namjoon defiantly.

"Suga, you're first," Taehyung snaps, moving over to the bench.

Luna comes out, wearing her usual training attire. She does a few stretches, smirking as she eyes Taehyung and Yoongi. Namjoon moves towards her, informing her of what he told them.

"So, they're all excited and cocky?" Luna scoffs, "Even better,"

"Don't go easy," Namjoon smirks, "But... don't damage them, okay?"

Luna nods, knowing Namjoon is referencing the Reaper she last sparred who now has a broken arm.

"These guys are important to me," Luna mumbles, "I won't really go all out,"

"Don't go easy..." Namjoon smirks, "We don't want you damaged either,"

Luna glares at Namjoon, the mere suggestion that they could hurt her that much infuriating her even more.

"Whatever," She mutters, moving onto the mat.

As soon as she is in position, Yoongi follows her, positioning himself across from her.

"Are you ready?" Luna asks, smirking.

"Are you?" Yoongi chuckles.

"Let's do this," Luna replies.

Namjoon starts the match, holding a timer in his hand.

Luna moves forward, kicking out at Yoongi. He sidesteps her, pushing her leg away from him. She loses her balance, shuffling away so he can't take advantage of that. She tries again, kicking twice while aiming at his legs. He blocks and dodges both attacks, pushing her leg once more. She loses balance again, but this time Yoongi takes advantage of this.

He kicks the back of her knee, forcing her to the floor. He pulls back to punch her, but she ducks and rolls away, kicking at his legs. He falls to his knees, wincing at the sudden pain. They clamber to their feet, Luna feeling apprehensive.

Their egos are really bruised, huh?

"20 seconds," Namjoon calls out.

She goes to kick again but brings her fist around instead. Focusing on her legs, Yoongi takes the punch to his jaw, stumbling away. She lunges forward, pushing him onto the ground. Before she can straddle him, he kicks out at her, hitting her gut. She groans, shoving his legs away. But he manages to bring himself to his feet, keeping her at bay.

"10 seconds," Namjoon chuckles.

Feeling frustrated, she brings her leg around to hit his leg. He becomes unbalanced, but when she kicks again, he grabs her leg. She goes to take this opportunity to force him off his feet, but instead, he twists her leg. She falls onto her side, groaning in pain.

"Time is up," Namjoon says, stepping onto the mat, "Step away,"

Yoongi lets go of her leg, shuffling away with a triumphant look on his face.

"Ah, I guess I'm too weak to join in, huh?" Yoongi murmurs, sneering. Taehyung claps, applauding his victory.

Gritting her teeth, Luna climbs to her feet, feeling humiliated.

Okay, maybe Yoongi will be fine.

Yoongi bows towards her, moving to shake her hand.

"Listen, I know you would have eventually won," Yoongi mutters, "I'm pretty disorientated after that hit... but I won't go down after 30 seconds,"

Luna sighs, smirking at him.

"Fine, I admit it, you're good," She rolls her eyes.

"V, you're up," Namjoon calls out.

Yoongi exits the mat only for Taehyung to take his place. Unlike Yoongi, Taehyung looks a little nervous. He looks at Namjoon, gulping at the prospect.

"Are you sure I should go all out?" he mumbles.

"She will," Namjoon nods towards Luna, "So it's up to you,"

Taehyung nods curtly, turning his narrowed eyes to her. She doesn't want to hurt him needlessly, so she hopes he goes all out.

Namjoon starts the match, calling out for them to begin.

This time, Taehyung moves first. He has his fists raised defensively, his knees bent, and his body turned. His eyes are full of a fire she wasn't expecting.

He attempts to punch her, but she dodges it before hitting him in the side. But he doesn't react.

Frowning, she takes a step back, bringing her knee up to hit his thigh. She hits him, but he doesn't react. She kicks again, hitting the back of his knee with her heel. His knee pushes forward but bounces back. She shuffles before punching him in the jaw. After focusing on her legs, he ends up taking the full hit. His face whips to the side but comes right back as if she never hit him.

"20 seconds," Namjoon yells.

Suddenly, Taehyung starts throwing punch after punch, stepping closer and closer. She dodges them, slowly backing away from the sudden onslaught of movement. He manages to hit her upper arm, the ache travelling up her shoulder and down to her wrist.

Damn, he hits hard.

"10 seconds," Namjoon yells.

Luna moves to the side, kicking at his butt with all her strength. He is shoved forward, landing on his stomach. He rolls away, just missing her next kick. He jumps to his feet, moving away from her. He looks exhausted at this point. She rushes forward, ready to hit again.

"Time is up!" Namjoon calls out, stepping onto the mat, "Move away,"

Luna stops in place, groaning with frustration. Taehyung smirks, chuckling as he saunters towards Yoongi. Yoongi applauds him, patting his back happily.

"Why did you let me hit you?" Luna asks, moving towards them. Namjoon follows her, observing the exchange. Taehyung turns towards her and smiles.

"It would be too easy to prove I could dodge," Taehyung shrugs, "I wanted you to see I can also take a hit,"

Luna frowns, watching as his jaw begins swelling. Yoongi offers him an ice pack, still grinning.

"Well, you took the hits well," Yoongi says proudly, "Anyway, so we've proven ourselves?"

Luna stares at them, completely bewildered. They were a lot better than she was expecting. Yoongi is great, even in a fight without structure. Taehyung hits hard, and he took her hits easily.

Sure, he moves a little gingerly. But he's not even limping.

She sighs, moving forward to hug Yoongi before hugging Taehyung.

"Fine," She breathes, "I trust you... please survive,"

"We will," Yoongi says cheerfully, moving towards Namjoon.

"You too," Taehyung chuckles, "Also... you hit harder than you look,"

Luna pulls away, smirking up at him confidently.

"Of course, that's part of my charm," She chuckles.

"Now," Namjoon says, clapping to grab their attention, "Are we ready?"

Luna looks at Yoongi and Taehyung proudly, nodding.

"Yeah," Luna agrees, "Let's go plan,"
