Chapter 48

"So, it's tonight?" Taehyung asks, watching as Luna shuffles around her office. She looks up at him and sighs, moving towards him. He is tense and nervous about the coming raid. She could get hurt, or the plan could fail, anything could happen.

"I'll be fine," Luna whispers, hugging him around the middle, "I am always safe, you know that,"

"I know," Taehyung mutters, "I know you're strong and good at this stuff, but you're never 100% safe... anything could happen,"

Anything could happen.

Luna is also worried about the possible outcomes of this raid. The building The Eye is moving into is just outside of the city, right next to a large apartment complex full of families. It's close enough that they could be affected.

She has so many concerns.

What if Mr Choi has betrayed them and this is a trap? What if The Eye changes his mind last minute? What if someone calls the police? What if someone innocent gets caught in the crossfire? Sure, she has answers to all of these questions.

Mr Choi is not likely to betray them considering the people watching his family and keeping them safe are Reapers. One phone call could end Mr Choi's very reason for existing.

The Eye probably won't change his mind, but if he does, they will just get him next time. Mr Choi will let her know. If someone else calls the police, Mr Lee will inform them, and they will leave.

And she won't harm anyone innocent. It is only herself and two other Reaper members entering the building, with 20 people on standby for backup. It will be a simple raid.

But even with answers to all these questions, she still worries. Taehyung isn't helping.

"I'll be waiting for you, okay?" Taehyung mutters, smiling at her sadly. The corner of his mouth twitches, the first warning sign of his impending tears.

"I'll be fine," Luna smiles, "Trust me... I went against Seokjin and J Hope, plus 17 additional followers, all on my own,"

"I know," Taehyung sighs, "Just promise you'll be safe,"

"I promise," She steps away from him, cupping his face in her hands, "I will be home tonight,"

Taehyung watches her, his eyes glistening slightly. After a moment, he nods, as if satisfied with her determination.

She hugs him again before letting him go, manoeuvring around him to leave her office. He follows her out, subtly wiping his eyes.

Once she is in the training area, she is surrounded by Reapers gearing up, ready to support her with this. The two Reapers that will be going in with her were at the Training centre in America with her. They are very highly trained. She moves towards the two tall men, looking up at them sternly.

"Ready?" She asks, her eyes scanning their attire. Like her, they are wearing dark clothing with holsters hidden under jackets and baggy clothing. They each have a gun, just in case, and a knife of some sort. One of them has a machete, while the other has a small pocket knife. Simple, yet effective. Their names are Snow and Vanilla.

"Yes, ma'am," Vanilla bows, "Ready when you are,"

She nods, turning her attention to the 20 other Reapers in the room. She rounds them up, grabbing their attention so she can run through the plan, the backup plans, and what to do in certain emergencies.

First, a Reaper will do a quick perimeter check of the building, so they know what they are up against. Then, her trio will head inside, silently, and slowly taking out the members one by one. The aim is to silence them, not kill them, but that depends on how it goes. Once they are done, she will confront The Eye and kill him before burning the building down to the ground. The surviving followers of The Eye will be interrogated and investigated to determine their involvement and mentality. Whether they can reform will affect whether they go with Yoongi and Taehyung or stay at the Training centre with Luna.

Hopefully, by midnight tonight, Seoul will be free of The Eye. Finally.

The Reapers nod along with her plan, in complete agreement with her. Even Snow and Vanilla don't have anything to add or change.

She goes over the possible directions this raid can go, assigning code names to the procedures following these changes. For example, if Luna is killed then her second in charge is Snow.

Taehyung and Yoongi will be nearby, ready to call the police if it escalates too much. If the police are called, everyone needs to flee in a stealthy, orderly fashion, with delegated alibis and explanations if caught.

Every possible scenario is covered, with a list of plans spanning from A to Z. She has thought of everything.

"Sounds good," One of the Stray Kids members, Han, replies as he holsters his gun, grinning happily.

"All right, everyone grab an earpiece," Chris calls out, holding up a box.

Everyone does as they are told, I.N following Chris around so he can write down what earpiece each Reaper grabs.

As they all start testing the sound and microphone for each of them, Luna turns to Yoongi.

"John is aware of the raid, right?" She asks. John is Mr Lee's chosen Reaper name.

"Yes, he's on standby too," Yoongi smiles.

"You have him on speed dial?" Luna asks.

"Of course," Yoongi grins, "Once you give me the clear, he will be there in 5 minutes with officers,"

"Good," Luna grins nervously.

"Are you okay?" Yoongi asks, watching her warily.

"Yeah, just nervous," Luna looks around, "There are more lives in my hands than usual..."

Yoongi nods, completely understanding her stress. She is in charge, so if anyone is harmed it is her responsibility. She takes that very seriously.

Soon, they are all ready for the raid. Chris has ensured that the equipment is working, and everyone is strapped. He will be in charge of the backup Reapers, keeping them in line and ensuring it all goes smoothly on their end.

Luna moves to a car with Snow and Vanilla, and they head off, the first stage of the plan finally in motion.

. . . . .

The moon is bright tonight, shining down on them mercilessly as Luna glides down the dark alleyway, her eyes planted firmly on the usually abandoned building in front of her. The wind has picked up, the rustling leaves and rubbish masking any sound they could possibly be making on the dirt below their feet. She squats near the entrance of the alleyway, looking up at the building across the street. Snow and Vanilla shuffle in behind her so they are completely melded into the shadows.

According to Mr Choi, The Eye officially arrived and finished moving in only 2 hours ago. He also notified them that he has 15 followers with him instead of the usual 10. But that barely affects their plan.

Snow lifts a small pair of binoculars, scanning each window. He frowns, lowering the binoculars to look at Luna.

"There is a lot of movement, Faith," he whispers, his voice a lot clearer over the radio even though he is right next to her.

"They are not too smart, are they?" Luna sighs.

"Or... they know we are coming," Vanilla points out.

"Even if they do... they are not expecting fully trained Reapers doing a stealth attack," Luna adds, smirking.

"That's true," Snow admits.

"Lee Know, do you copy?" Luna asks.

"Yeah, I'm here, I just finished," He replies over the radio in her ear, "There is only one side door. I can't see if there is anyone on the other side. But it looks like they have paired off into rooms. On the ground floor, 3 people are milling around on guard duty. I overheard their conversation,"

"Well done," Luna grins, "What were they saying?"

"Shift change is in an hour and The Eye is in the master bedroom with huge double doors – can't miss it," Lee Know explains quietly.

"You're a legend, Lee Know," Snow replies, grinning.

"T-Thank you," Lee Know replies proudly, "Moving back into standby,"

"Roger," Vanilla adds. He looks at Luna and grins, "Back door?"

"Of course," Luna nods.

They make their way back down the alleyway, taking the long way around so they can sneak into the alleyway behind the building. Luckily, this alleyway is almost pitch black. They move up towards the back door, checking around for any security cameras or wires. But there aren't any.

Is the new Eye really this stupid, or is this a trap?

As this thought occurs to her, Luna pauses, looking into the window next to the back door. Lee Know was correct; only 3 people are moving around the downstairs area, casually talking with each other, their guns sitting on a nearby table.

"Faith?" Luna looks back to find Snow staring at her, "Are you okay?"

She frowns, glancing back inside. They are just... so comfortable. Are they really this stupid?

"No security... scheduled security change over..." Luna sighs, "It feels too easy,"

"I know," Vanilla sighs, moving beside her, "But we got this, okay?"

She smiles at him, nodding. She moves forward, checking the door for any security at all, anything. But there is nothing.

At least they locked the door, she frowns to herself, easily picking the lock. She pushes the door open, peeking into the house. One of the three people can see the door from where he is, but he's not looking at her. She slides into the kitchen, gesturing for Snow and Vanilla to follow her.

Slowly and silently, they move towards the living area where they are standing. They notice nothing.

She frowns at Snow and Vanilla, but the only way they will find out is if they try. She lifts her hand, counting down for the surprise attack.

They jump out, hitting them so they are instantly knocked out. They barely made a sound, except for the sound of their bodies falling to the ground. They listen intently, waiting for someone to come down to check on them.

Nothing.

They drag them out of sight, tying them up expertly before moving towards the stairs. They can hear quite a bit of movement upstairs, but as they reach the top of the stairs, they realise the sounds are coming from the rooms.

And so, the silent massacre begins.

Snow suggests they just barge in and attack. At first, Luna thought that was a terrible idea. But, after the first room, she realises it is a great idea. These people are completely unaware that they are in danger. They are just sitting in their rooms, relaxing. No hypervigilance, no anxiety, no awareness. Nothing. Where did The Eye find these people?

The first room goes down silently. Same with the second and third rooms. They enter, and ambush them, covering their mouths before they knock them out. They are in pairs, so it is easy to overpower them. Each pair get tied up; their mouths taped so that if any of them wake up they don't scream.

It's almost too easy.

In the fourth room, it becomes complicated. This pair manages to go down noisily. Once they are knocked out, Snow and Vanilla tie them up quickly while Luna listens out for any response. But it is quiet... too quiet. Did they hear them?

Once this pair is tied up, they peek out of the room. The last room has gone completely silent, but their door is slightly ajar. Luna slides out, slowly looking into the room.

It's empty.

"Shit, where did they go?" Luna asks, listening intently.

"Master bedroom," Snow responds, gesturing to the large double doors. Just beyond the fancy timber doors, they can hear hushed, urgent voices.

Vanilla frowns, standing up and moving towards the door.

"What are you doing?" Luna demands.

"2 more members, and The Eye," Vanilla explains.

"Mr Choi said there are 15... so there should be 4 people in there with The Eye," Snow explains.

"It'll be fine, trust me," Vanilla smiles, "They are in there anyway, we have to at this point,"

Snow and Luna look at each other before shrugging. They stand and move towards him. Vanilla stands to the side of the door while Snow grabs the doorknob. He looks at Luna and tilts his head. She nods, saying that she is ready. He nods in response, pushing the door open and raising his gun.

They move into the bedroom, guns raised.

Suddenly, it is loud.

Standing around the room are the rest of the followers of The Eye with panicked expressions on their faces. They fumble their guns, their voices overlapping as they shout random demands at them. They move together, standing between them and The Eye, who is sitting on a chair near the window.

"SILENCE!"

Luna, Snow and Vanilla stand firm as the followers shut up, The Eye's words forcing them to become silent. He stands, sighing deeply as he moves past his followers, his arms behind his back.

Of course, she should have been expecting to see him standing before her again. He never learns from his mistakes. He never listens to her or accepts her obvious helping hand. Who else would be stupid enough to promise anarchy?

Jeon Jungkook.

"You?" Luna sighs, "Of course, it's you,"

"Surprise," He grins, folding his arms, "I'm The Eye now,"

"You're doing a terrible job," Luna snaps, "No security, no pushback... it's just the three of us. We got in easily,"

"I can see that," Jungkook murmurs, still grinning evilly, "Don't worry, you won't find me next time,"

"There won't be a next time," Luna snaps, "This ends. Now,"

"But I have so much to do," He pouts, sighing deeply, "I can't stop now, this feels too good,"

"Dude..." Luna sighs, stepping forward.

She forgets that his followers are in a panicked state, guns barely in their hands, their fingers shaking as they hover over the trigger.

Instantly, they fire.

Luna dives behind a sofa, noticing their reaction just in time. The loud banging from the gunfire makes her ears ring. Snow follows her, his eyes firmly on the people shooting at them. She frowns peeking around to look for Vanilla.

The blood... his crumpled holey body.

He's dead.

She squeezes her eyes shut, breathing heavily as she returns her attention to Snow. She can't panic now. She needs to focus.

Survive now, grieve later.

"Hold your fire!" Jungkook's voice rings out, "What the fuck?! Did I say fire? Huh?"

Luna clenches her jaw, her anger coming to her defence. There is nothing worse than an untrained rookie looking down the barrel of a gun. They don't listen.

"Shots fired, Plan P?" Chris's voice rings through Luna's earpiece.

"Plan P," She replies, looking over the sofa.

"Roger," Yoongi's tense voice responds, "John has been informed, you have 5 minutes,"

"Fuck, we need to leave," Luna mumbles. Snow nods standing to shoot at the rookie followers. They fall back, hiding behind various pieces of furniture scattered around the room, a few of them receiving non-lethal hits.

Luna and Snow slide out of the room. Just before she can start down the hallway so they can escape, Jungkook's voice rings out after her.

"FAITH!" He booms, "I'll be seeing you again! Under my boot, my gun to your head! Do you hear me?"

Luna turns to respond but Snow grabs her, pulling her down the hallway.

They rush out of the building, slinking silently into the shadows as the sirens grow louder and louder. They run, sprinting away from the building. Luna's heart is racing, her soul being wrenched from her body with every metre they move away from the building – away from Vanilla.

What if he's alive?

Luna swallows a sob, the pain and grief fighting desperately to escape. But she can't do this right now. She needs to focus.

She wasn't expecting her emotions to be a problem in this. When she first started training, bodies fell all around her, yet she felt nothing. Now, the image of Vanilla lying there is etched into her mind, reappearing every time she closes her eyes. Her father would be disappointed in her.

This thought unexpectedly makes her feel better about her sudden flood of emotions.

They reach their getaway car, the tires screeching loudly as it drives away, the flashing red and blue in their rear-view mirror.

"Are you okay?" Snow asks, checking her for any injuries.

"I'm fine," She sighs, "Everyone, Plan P is in place, fall back,"

"Roger," Chris responds.

"Copy that," Taehyung chimes in, "Yoongi is with the officers,"

"All right, let's convene at the Training centre," Luna confirms.

After a few confirmations, Luna starts to tune it out, feeling frustrated. He was right there, right there.

She has given him so many chances, so many options. But he pushes them away, as easily as he pushes his humanity away. She should have known he was a lost cause years ago.

It's too late for him, Luna sighs, I need to kill him.

Suddenly, her phone starts ringing, startling her from her depressing realisation. She looks down, smiling slightly as she answers the call.

"What's up, bro?" Luna grins.

"I heard the raid didn't go perfectly," Namjoon says firmly, "Do you need my help?"

Luna sighs, instinctively rolling her eyes. But she is hesitating too much. She needs him here. As much as her pride is disgusted by the possibility, she needs help with this one.

"Yeah, I think so," Luna sighs, "It's... it's Jungkook... he's The Eye... and Vanilla... he didn't make it,"

Namjoon stays silent for a moment, allowing this news to really sink in.

"I see... I see why you're hesitating..." Namjoon replies gruffly, "You know what we have to do, don't you?"

"I know," Luna mutters, "I'm worried I won't be able to do it,"

"You will," Namjoon says firmly, "I'll be right there... we can do this Faith,"

Luna smiles, looking up at Snow sadly. He returns her smile, but she can see the grief hidden in his eyes, hiding behind years of brutal training.

"Okay," Luna replies, "When will you be here?"

"I'll fly out as soon as possible, okay?" Namjoon says firmly, shuffling around.

"Okay, see you then, RM," Luna smiles, hanging up the phone.

She turns her attention to the window, watching the world pass by, her heart aching for Vanilla.

(A/N) I was going to make Snow and Vanilla other celebrities, but with this chapter ending like this, I thought that would be mean.

See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
