Chapter 44
Luna takes a deep breath in, feeling a little unsettled. She is in the back of a limousine with Namjoon, Taehyung, and Yoongi, heading to the soiree being held at a mansion Namjoon owns.
The more she learns about the wealth Namjoon inherited, the more she feels resentful of living in her little studio apartment. She didn't even know her father had this much money.
This party is being held so Namjoon can introduce Luna as the leader of The Reapers in Korea, just like Friday night. This time, however, is for the richer supporters and members of The Reapers. The politicians, the police officers, the judges, the millionaires, the musicians, the entertainment CEOs, and many more.
But, apparently, Namjoon has very little control in Seoul.
It doesn't fucking look like it.
300 people have been invited to this event, and all of them are showing up. This is every member in the entirety of Korea, not just Seoul. To the public, it has been classified as an invite-only charity event to raise money for an unknown organisation.
She is wearing a shiny silver dress made out of some strange material that feels heavenly on her skin. It hangs from her waist, hugging her in all the right places.
Namjoon even paid for her to get her makeup and hair done for the event, something she has not had time to do for a very long time. The jewellery alone costs more than her entire apartment is worth, glittering thin chains of silver around her wrists, fingers, and neck, making her look like a princess.
She has never seen so much wealth in her life, never mind wearing it. She even has some nice heels to match her dress, which are surprisingly comfortable.
To help calm her nerves, she looks around the interior of the expensive car, eyeing her companions.
Namjoon looks handsome, his hair combed back to reveal his forehead. He is wearing a simple 3-piece suit with a black button-up, the vest accentuating his muscular physique. One of his lapels is white, stark in contrast to his simple attire. He looks like a rich boy.
Yoongi is wearing a suit jacket and dress pants, a plain white button-up underneath. His formal shoes look shiny, his pants leg hitching up as he crosses his leg, casually sitting beside Namjoon. His black jacket has a belt, making him look like a model or a singer. His pitch-black hair is also combed back, his usual messy hair tamely curling at the base of his neck. Luna didn't know he knew how to dress up.
But Taehyung? She could eat him up right now. And with the way he is looking at her, the feeling is mutual. He is wearing a black 3-piece suit, his jacket left unbuttoned to reveal his accentuated waist, a white button-up underneath. Half of his hair is tied back into a bun, the rest of his hair cascading around his neck. He has rings along his fingers, exaggerating his veiny hands. He looks like a prince.
He is watching her, his eyes slowly gliding over her dress and up again. When they make eye contact, Luna looks away. She is too nervous to be flustered right now. He slides his hand onto her lap but decides to take her hand instead after a deathly glare from Namjoon.
"So, anything I need to remember tonight?" Luna asks, breaking the staring contest between Namjoon and Taehyung.
"Just that some of these people are really rich," Namjoon emphasises, "There will be a lot of flashing money and showing off wealth, as they do. But there isn't much to worry about. These people are here because they align themselves with my philosophy. They are good people,"
"That's good," Yoongi breathes, "I was worried I was going to start questioning my morality tonight,"
They chuckle at this comment, the air in the car becoming lighter.
"What about..." Taehyung gulps, looking towards Luna's dress, "Isn't it a bit much?"
"I chose this dress," Luna pouts, "I want them to know I can still kill them in heels and a silky dress,"
"That's fair," Namjoon grins before turning his gaze to Taehyung, "Are you worried about men?"
Taehyung blushes and nods, feeling a little embarrassed. Luna rolls her eyes, folding her arms.
"Then keep your hands on her," Yoongi smirks, "that worked really well Friday night,"
"Shut up," Taehyung pouts as Namjoon and Luna snicker.
Soon, they arrive. Luna is left in awe.
It is a huge mansion estate, the building a mixture of neo-traditional and European. It gives off the vibe of a royal palace, the sort of place where a historical TV show or a Chaebol Korean drama would be filmed at. She loves the neo-traditional aspects, the sloping roof with traditional sliding doors, off in a separate section from the European-style entrance.
The limo pulls up at the entrance to the large front doors, prompting a couple of workers to shuffle forward and open their door.
Luna closes her gaping mouth, composes herself, and slides out of the car. The steps leading inside have been lavishly carpeted, leading inside the towering building. A few people are milling nearby, but most people seem to be inside.
She waits for the others to climb out before moving up the steps. Taehyung instantly places his hand on her hip, pulling her to his side.
In the foyer, Luna admires the stone walls, high ceilings, and decorative crystals. It's incredibly beautiful. To the left is a set of solid doors, opened to reveal a large lavish ballroom.
Ha... this can't be real.
"RM, how much money do you have?" Luna whispers quickly, looking up at him with wide eyes. He smirks, chuckling at her awe.
"I think you might kill me if I tell you," He mutters, "Now..."
He turns his gaze to Taehyung, holding his hand out in front of him. Taehyung frowns, slowly lifting his spare hand to place it in his, his eyes narrowed with confusion.
"Tae..." Yoongi sighs, "He is asking if he can lead Luna in,"
"Oh..." Taehyung lets go of Luna and steps aside, "Of course,"
Namjoon chuckles at him before Luna places her hand in his.
"Okay, mingle with whoever," Namjoon mumbles quietly, standing to the side of the entrance into the room, "But we need some rules,"
He points at Taehyung.
"No morality talk," He says firmly.
"Why? Worried I'm going to convince someone?" Taehyung smirks.
"No, I'm worried you're going to get shot," Namjoon mutters through gritted teeth. Taehyung pales and nods. He is very much out of his depth here, but he's trying so hard. Luna clasps his hand and gives it a little reassuring squeeze. He smiles down at her, his shoulders dropping a little as the tension leaves him.
"Also, no real names," Namjoon says firmly, pointing at both Yoongi and Taehyung, "You are Suga, and you are V, got it?"
"Yeah, I remember you calling us that Friday," Yoongi frowns, "Why Suga?"
"Why V?" Taehyung snaps, "Why am I a letter?"
"Better suggestions?" Namjoon enquires, cocking his eyebrow at them.
They look at each before looking back at Namjoon, shaking their heads.
"Didn't think so," He smirks, "Other than that, enjoy,"
He gestures towards the doors, leading Luna into the glistening hall full of people. Yoongi and Taehyung immediately move towards a table set out with an abundance of expensive food. They disappear into the crowd, leaving Luna with Namjoon.
He leads her around the room, introducing her as Faith. She smiles and bows respectfully, which is reciprocated. She is surprised by how nice everyone is. She was expecting some threats, or to see a few executives with traces of white powder on their noses. But it really feels like a charity ball full of decent people. She is also surprised that they know of her, treating her like a powerful politician or royalty. It's a strange sensation.
Slowly, they make their way towards the small stage at the end of the hall in preparation for her second bout of public speaking. Her stomach starts doing cartwheels, the glittering wealth surrounding her making her feel nauseous.
A man approaches Namjoon, whispering something in his ear. He smiles and nods before looking down at Luna.
"Ready?" He asks.
She nods, her anxiety reaching new heights.
He leads her onto the stage, watching as a few people set up a microphone and leave. Namjoon leads her to the centre of the stage, standing in front of the microphone.
"Good evening," He declares loudly, beaming around at all the guests, "Welcome to the first Reaper charity ball. Thank you, all esteemed guests,"
There is a round of applause as people move towards the stage. Luna can see Taehyung and Yoongi sitting near the stage, just like Friday night. Yoongi is watching her emotionlessly, while Taehyung has this strange look on his face. Is it... pride?
"Now, I'm sure you're all wondering why we have decided to hold something like this," Namjoon smirks, "I have introduced a few of you to my sister, so I'll leave the stage to her,"
Luna steps forward as Namjoon adjusts the microphone before moving to the side, gesturing for her to step forward. She does as she is told, feeling a little apprehensive. She clears her throat and speaks.
"Thank you, RM," Luna smiles. She pauses, looking around at all the people in the room. She was planning on doing this differently to Friday night. But she doesn't want anyone to be treated differently, not even rich people.
"As you know, I am RM's sister," She says firmly, "My name is Faith, the new leader of The Reapers in Korea,"
There are some scattered whispers around the room. A few people are curious about her, while others are awed, little glints of fear in their eyes.
She explains her past for those who don't know, and the minor changes that come with this leadership change. When she is finished, she smiles and bows, thanking them for their attention. Another round of applause follows her off the stage as she approaches Taehyung and Yoongi, a huge grin on her face. Everyone returns to their conversations, a palpable excitement invading the room.
"How was that?" She breathes, looking up at Taehyung.
"Amazing," He grins in response, giving her a little peck on the lips, "I'm so proud of you,"
Her heart swells with happiness, beaming up at him proudly. She wasn't expecting him to be so comfortable with all this. But after everything that has happened, there has been a change in him. A strong, resilient change.
"All right, you can have her back now," Namjoon grins, winking at Taehyung, "I'm going to keep mingling, okay?"
"Okay," Luna nods, watching him go.
Suddenly, Yoongi shuffles towards her, looking right past her.
"Sir?" He mutters, "Wow, I was hoping to see you here,"
Luna turns around as Yoongi shakes a man's hand. It's their supervisor, Mr Lee.
Mr Lee is dressed up in formal attire, clean and firm. He doesn't look too much different from how he is at work, but his eyes are different. He finishes greeting Yoongi before turning his attention to Luna.
"Please, call me John here," Mr Lee mutters, "How are you, Faith?"
"I'm good, John," Luna smirks, "It's nice to finally be able to meet you as an official Reaper member,"
"Yes," He sighs, "I was planning on giving you this whole speech about how this doesn't change our working dynamic and that I am still your boss, but RM informed me that you're leaving,"
"Yeah," Luna chuckles, "I'll give my notice tomorrow,"
"It's okay," Mr Lee grins, "I understand you start at the training centre on Wednesday?"
"Yeah, I wasn't sure if I could," Luna mutters, "Considering the notice stuff,"
"It's fine," Mr Lee shrugs, "RM told me Friday, so I already have documents for immediate dismissal under the guise of mental health,"
"Mental health?" Luna frowns, "Mentally, I am better than I have ever been,"
"Even with all that grief?" He raises his eyebrows in an almost fatherly way. She pouts, instinctively rolling her eyes.
He chuckles, gently patting her shoulder.
"Thank you for your service, Faith," He smiles before turning to Yoongi, "And I expect some good work from you,"
"Huh?" Yoongi's eyes widen, a little startled by the sudden redirection. They laugh at his expression before Mr Lee excuses himself.
"So, Mr V," Yoongi smirks, "Supportive?"
"Of course," Taehyung mutters, "Actually... I was thinking of joining..." Taehyung's ears redden, his pride put on hold.
"Seriously?" Luna grins, "That's awesome!"
"Uh... Suga told me what to expect and... I guess I don't see a problem with it..."
"It's not because of all this, is it?" Yoongi grins, gesturing around the room.
"Yah, I'm not shallow," Taehyung snaps, "I was thinking about it Friday, but I decided on Saturday after... the apartment stuff,"
He closes his eyes briefly as the emotional day rushes through his mind again. He sighs, smiling at Luna.
"So... can I join... Faith?" He smirks as she squeals with happiness, jumping into his arms.
"Of course, V," She laughs, "We will have a meeting with RM about it, okay?"
Taehyung nods, hugging her tightly into him. Yoongi makes a disgusted noise, causing them to separate and look at him.
"I'm going to go get a drink," Yoongi mutters, rolling his eyes dramatically. Luna chuckles, watching him go.
"This is a nice night," Taehyung whispers, moving his head so he is pressing his face into her hair, "There is a dance floor over there,"
"You want to dance?" Luna smirks teasingly. He nods vigorously, gently leading her to the floor.
Luna relaxes into his embrace, feeling a lot more comfortable after her speech. Maybe she will be a good leader after all.
But she has a lot to learn.
. . . . .
"Are you sure I'm ready?" Luna asks quickly, "What if I fuck something up? What if I get someone killed? What if they don't listen to me?"
"Luna... Luna... listen," Namjoon sighs, placing his hands on her shoulders, "We spent Monday going through exactly what I do with each group and what areas we have our fingers in. It was so easy, I did it from America. Then, on Tuesday you spent your first day at the Training Centre with me, and the second day. I didn't need to step in at all. You did your homework so well I didn't even feel the need to correct you. You dealt with the cocky members really well, and you delegated perfectly. Why are you so worried?"
Luna smirks, thinking back to the first day in the training centre. There was one student that didn't believe she could possibly teach or lead them or be strong enough to take them down. She knocked him off his high horse almost instantly.
They are standing in the middle of the airport, just near the security gates Namjoon needs to enter so he can go board his plane. After dealing with everything he needed to deal with, he is ready to return to his home. Yoongi and Taehyung have joined her to send him off. Taehyung is here for emotional support, but Yoongi has grown quite fond of Namjoon.
The people he brought with him are already past security, waiting at the gate they need to board from.
"But what if I fuck up?" She mutters.
"You won't!" Namjoon says firmly, "Listen, I need to return to America. You will do perfectly fine. Plus, you have Yoongi and Taehyung. You can talk to them and I'm sure they'll help you with anything,"
Luna looks over her shoulder at Yoongi and Taehyung who both give her a reassuring smile. She sighs, looking back at Namjoon.
"But I'll miss you," She pouts, looking down at the ground. Namjoon sighs sadly, pulling her into his arms.
"I'll miss you too," Namjoon murmurs, "I'm sorry we wasted most of our lives hating each other. But I'll visit often, and you can call me whenever you want. Even if it is 3 am where I am, I don't care. I will answer, I promise,"
She sighs into his arms, the warmth of those words spreading through her like a shot of whiskey.
Many people have words that just make them melt, warm them up from the inside, and make them feel loved. Some people like 'I love you' while some like 'I need you'.
Luna's comfort words are 'I promise'.
She pulls out of his arms, her eyes glistening a little from unshed tears.
"You better keep in contact," Luna mumbles, "Otherwise I'll hunt you down,"
Namjoon's expression shifts slightly, but it is soon replaced with a grin.
"I have to keep in contact, Luna," He chuckles, "I'm your boss, I need to keep an eye on you,"
Luna smacks his arm playfully, making him lean away as he rubs his arm.
"Ow..." He pouts.
She steps away so Yoongi and Taehyung can say their goodbyes. Yoongi gives him a hug, patting his back.
"Thanks for the opportunity, and the deep conversations," Yoongi mutters, clearing his throat as he steps away, "See you the next time I see you,"
Namjoon smirks and nods, not pushing too hard at Yoongi's nonchalant attitude.
Taehyung steps forward, pulling Namjoon roughly into a hug, patting his back aggressively. Namjoon's eyes widen, a little startled by his friendliness. They have become a lot closer since Taehyung joined The Reapers.
"It was nice to meet you, brother-in-law," Taehyung mutters, "Visit often,"
"Of course," Namjoon chuckles, pulling away to smile at him. He pats his face gently, in an almost brotherly way. Taehyung grins before stepping away. He entwines his fingers around Luna's, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. She smiles gratefully before turning her attention to Namjoon.
He shoulders his carry-on bag, his suitcase already checked in for the flight. He turns, giving them all one more smile and a wave, before turning and walking away. A tear slides down Luna's cheek, watching his silhouette get smaller and smaller before he joins the line.
At this, Taehyung, Yoongi, and Luna turn to leave, ready to continue his work.
(A/N) Aww Joonie is heading home now. Hopefully, he won't need to return for anything work-related... Anyway!
See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
