Chapter 40

Early hours of the morning... a few hours after the 'negotiations' with The Eye...

"Luna, please let me explain," Namjoon sighs, closing her apartment door behind him.

"No, Namjoon, I will not be Faith permanently," She looks back at him, folding her arms, "I got my revenge, that's it. I need to go to work in a few hours, so I need some sleep,"

She gestures to her front door, indicating that he needs to leave, before moving towards her bathroom. She showers, washing all the drying blood from her skin, and placing her stained clothes in a plastic bag.

When she re-enters the room, Namjoon is still there, sitting at her dining table patiently. She rolls her eyes, ignoring him as she goes through the process of disposing of her bloody clothes.

She opens one of her cabinets and sighs. It's been a while since she has had to dispose of clothing, so she doesn't have the required chemicals she used to use.

"Here," She stands and turns, spotting Namjoon standing nearby with his hand out for her. She frowns, passing him the bag.

"Can I borrow your shower? I'll call on a Reaper to deal with these," He gestures to his own stained clothes, grinning. She nods, watching as he heads to her shower.

She sits at her dining table, pouting a little at his insistence. He isn't hanging around because of some brotherly love bullshit. He wants to convince her to join him. She would rather die.

Sure, she enjoyed the moments of bliss that came with taking down those people, especially Seokjin and Hoseok. But she can't do the other work that comes with being a Reaper. She will never kill an innocent ever again.

Her mindset has changed a lot in the past week. She spent the past 5 years firmly believing that she will never kill again. Yet, here she is, convincing herself that she will only kill certain people. Her cognitive dissonance is battling inside her, but her self-persuasion is quite realistic.

After a while, Namjoon leaves the bathroom. Based on the tightness around his chest, he is wearing clothes he found in her cupboard. He is wearing one of her favourite baggy white T-shirts and grey sweatpants. The baggy sweatpants kind of fit all right, but the shirt is tight around his upper torso. When and how he managed to access her clothes, she has no idea.

"Seriously?" She smirks, taking in his attire, "My clothes?"

"I just picked the loosest, simplest clothes I could find," He frowns, "It's not my fault I'm so strong and muscular,"

Instantly, Luna pegs a tissue box at him, hitting his face. He chuckles, picking it up and putting it back. He pulls out his phone and messages someone before sitting across from her.

"Someone will be over soon to take our clothes," Namjoon mutters, "Don't worry, they'll be disposed of well,"

"I would hope so," She retorts, "If you couldn't do the basics, I'd be wondering how you're still alive,"

He chuckles, but his smile doesn't reach his eyes. He is watching her warily, that question waiting to be asked once again.

"No," She says firmly before the words can even leave his lips, "I'm not doing it,"

"Just hear me out, okay?" Namjoon sighs, "I'll explain what we do and what you would do, and if you still don't want it, I'll never ask you again, I promise,"

"Fine," Luna sighs dramatically, "try to convince me,"

Namjoon grins, shuffling forward in his chair, leaning towards her.

"So, The Reapers have changed a lot since you were a member," Namjoon begins, "When dad was the leader, Mr Grim himself, the goal of The Reapers was to run and control the criminal world. Drugs, weapons, sex, human trafficking, everything. But my goals are much different,"

"What are your goals?" Luna asks.

She would be lying if she said she hadn't considered joining The Reapers again after Hoseok's comments towards the group. There must have been a huge change for him to distance himself from Namjoon so much. He even suggested changing the name to The Angels, which tells Luna that Namjoon is doing things Hoseok wouldn't consider criminal. She has been curious ever since, but the looming meaning behind her name has held her back.

"My goal is to change the world," Namjoon says firmly, "I want to be the hidden unknown behind politicians. I want to control everything. I want to rid the world of corruption, pain, and immorality. Sure, my methods aren't great, which is why I would call us vigilantes instead. But essentially, we don't kill unless we have to. If we can change people, we will. I want to have more people in the police force, but that is being proven difficult. With more people in the police force, I can ensure the people doing the wrong thing are arrested and innocent people aren't going away for crimes they didn't commit. The line between illegal and legal is almost nonexistent, but sometimes that needs to happen. You can't fight with the legal book against those who wrote it for themselves. But you can utilise it and use their world against them. That is my goal,"

Luna blinks a few times, completely astonished. She did get this sort of vibe from him when she first spoke to him all those years ago, and again only a few days ago. But she didn't really think he would be so confident and firm with this. She thought that he might have simply been trying to convince himself that what he is doing is okay.

"How effective has this been?" Luna asks. She knows many members of The Reapers participated in the illegal things he mentioned.

"It's been pretty good," He smirks, "Like I said the other day, those who agreed, stayed. Those who disagreed were dealt with,"

"I see," Luna nods, "So, what do you do?"

"I have over 10,000 people working for me in the police force of America," Namjoon begins, "Europe has been a bit slow to control, but I have a lot of people in high positions across the continent. Korea will be easier now that I know The Eye is silenced. So far, Busan is almost entirely under my control,"

Luna's mouth falls open in shock.

"10,000?!" She repeats ludicrously, "Busan?!"

"Yeah," Namjoon smirks cockily, "Anyway... I'm sure you're curious about what I'd have you doing as Faith,"

She shuffles uncomfortably before nodding. With all this power, does he really need her at all?

"I would need you to replace Jimin," Namjoon smiles sadly, "He was doing training for me, and his second in charge is pretty useless. He also collated evidence for me to pass onto detectives, etc,"

"Wait... Jimin was giving us information because you told him to?" Luna asks.

"Of course," Namjoon chuckles, "Anyway, you would essentially be an illegal PI,"

"I see..." Luna frowns.

That actually sounds awesome.

"Also, I'll need more people in the police force," Namjoon continues, "Would Min Yoongi and Kim Taehyung agree to work for me?"

"No," She says quickly, "They are both by the book, justice will prevail sort of people,"

"I don't know... I think you could get through to Yoongi," Namjoon smirks, "But I see what you mean by Taehyung... but if you could, they would be greatly beneficial,"

"I don't know..." Luna bites her lip.

"Also, you would be in charge of Korea," Namjoon says, "I can't run the entire world on my own. I have a second in charge in Europe, and in America, now I need someone here,"

Luna blinks at him again, unsure if she is hearing him correctly. Her, lead The Reapers?

"Why me?" She mutters.

"Because you are Faith," Namjoon smiles proudly, "Or, Faith 2.0. A strong independent young person who firmly believes in justice. I've heard what you are like as a detective. You're controlling, but you do the job better than most of the detectives. As my sister, the job would be perfect for you,"

She frowns at him, a little mollified by the compliments. He's not wrong. She is fiercely independent, but only because she had to be. Relying on people means death. How is a trauma response suddenly a positive personality attribute?

"But I'm only this way because of what we went through," She mumbles, "What if I burn out? What if I do a terrible job?"

"Well, firstly, I'll always be a phone call away if you need any support or advice," Namjoon says firmly, "Secondly, everyone is a product of their trauma. The whole definition of cognition is mental thought processes acquired through experiences and senses. People can decide whether they want these experiences to define them, or they can utilise them to develop their own neurological pathways. It's hard, but you can either try to bury your control and trust issues, or you can utilise them to better understand people and the world around you. The only time these things become a problem is if you let your actions negatively affect people. So, do you want to let Grim control you for the rest of your life, or are you going to utilise the experiences?"

Luna tilts her head in confusion.

When did he become so psychological and philosophical?

"That sounds a little insensitive... considering what I've been through," Luna mutters, her thoughts straying to what The Eye did to her.

"No, insensitive would be me telling you to grow up, or saying that your trauma wasn't that bad," Namjoon smirks, "What I'm telling you is what helped me through my trauma. Mental health isn't easy to navigate. For people like us, headstrong and stubborn, with control issues, trust issues, etc, it can feel pointless and difficult to overcome and understand. It's easier to just bury it and move on to the next big issue. But, again, you only need to know one thing: Are you going to let them control you forever?"

Am I going to let Grim control me? The Eye? Hoseok? Seokjin?

Am I going to let them continue to affect me?

Suddenly, there is a knock on the door, startling them from their deep discussion.

"Ah, that would be a Reaper," Namjoon sighs, standing and grabbing the bags, "I'm going to leave for now, but let me know what you think, okay?"

Luna nods in response, her brain working overtime with all this new information.

He heads to the door, sliding on his shoes and grabbing his things. He opens the door, revealing a random man Luna has never met before.

"Oh, by the way, little sis," Namjoon looks over his shoulder at her, "Senior Detective Mr Lee has been working for me for 3 years... he knows who you are,"

Luna pales, glaring at her brother with annoyance and frustration. He chuckles, closing the door behind him.

Luna slumps forward, resting her head on her dining table as she groans aloud.

Jerk...

. . . . .

Present...

"What do you mean you killed them all?" Taehyung demands, getting up from the sofa to stand beside Yoongi, his arms folded. His pupils are shaking, the disbelief evident on his face. He doesn't want to believe her.

"All of them," She mutters darkly, "16 of the men were surrounding the building, ready to attack RM. I killed them one by one. The other man was the getaway driver. We moved their bodies into the warehouse and set the place on fire. We killed Seokjin and Hoseok and dragged them out of the building so they could be identifiable. We exploded 3 of their cars but left the one with the black box for evidence. I also received the names of the corrupt officers, and killed them,"

"So... you became Faith?" Yoongi asks, "Even though all this was to prevent that?"

"I had no other choice," Luna mumbles, "You didn't turn up to work, so I thought he killed you as well. I had one more option: my brother,"

"Your brother? RM?" Yoongi asks. He grabs a chair, sitting in front of her.

She explains everything that has happened behind the scenes with Namjoon. How Jimin had been communicating with him and so he came to Korea to help her. How she rejected his idea, citing it as a plan B or C. But after everything fell through, she had no choice. Taehyung looks disappointed, but Yoongi looks mollified.

"I understand," He sighs, "I wish it didn't come to that... but it's all over now, right?"

Luna bites her lip, refusing to answer the question. She has been wanting to talk to them separately about Namjoon's suggestion. She knows Taehyung is going to refuse, immediately. But Yoongi might actually agree. Namjoon knows he will, somehow.

"No... I am thinking of becoming Faith, with the new Reapers," Luna says firmly. She might as well be honest in a situation like this. She can't keep lying to them.

"WHAT?!" Taehyung snaps, "Why?"

"What does that mean?" Yoongi asks.

So, she tells them exactly how The Reapers have changed over the years. She hints at an already established system of authority all over the world but doesn't give them the numbers Namjoon gave her. She explains what her job will be and that killing isn't necessarily on the table.

"So... it's like a huge vigilante group with criminal connections and skills that is slowly getting involved with political and military powers to ensure the right thing is being done?" Yoongi summarises.

"Exactly," Luna nods, "He wanted me to extend the invitation to you two,"

Taehyung scoffs, but Yoongi tilts his head in confusion.

"As if," Taehyung grumbles.

"Why?" Yoongi asks, "We're not powerful people,"

"Because you will always do the right thing and RM has noticed that" Luna explains, "He wants good people working for him,"

"You want me to become a corrupt prosecutor? As if!" Taehyung snaps.

"He has a point," Yoongi gestures towards Taehyung, "What are the benefits of working for RM?"

"Basically, you keep doing what you are currently doing," Luna explains, "But if you come across a criminal that you can't find any proof against, The Reapers will obtain that proof, along with the necessary documents to ensure it was 'legally obtained'," Luna smirks as Yoongi nods along with satisfaction.

"So, it'll be like a little cheat sheet?" Yoongi clarifies.

"Essentially," Luna shrugs, "RM wants the right people behind bars. Of course, they are still killing people. But only people that can't be contained behind bars, like Seokjin,"

"That's fair..." Yoongi sighs, "I'd like to talk to RM about this... I don't want to agree to something I don't fully understand,"

"Okay," Luna grins.

"Hold up," Taehyung laughs, shaking his hands as he steps closer, "You are considering becoming a corrupt detective? You don't see anything wrong with that?"

"I see a problem becoming corrupt," Yoongi says firmly, "But this wouldn't be corrupt,"

"How is that not corrupt?" Taehyung snaps, "You'll be working for a crime lord!"

"The law is a very, very fine line between right and wrong. The law is almost separate from morality," Yoongi sneers, "You should know that as a lawyer,"

Taehyung's ears instantly become red as he glares down at Yoongi, his fists clenched by his side.

"Well, I will never support that," He turns his gaze to Luna, "Never,"

Quickly, he moves towards his front door, pointing at it firmly.

"I would like you both to leave," He snaps, "I don't want to have a debate about morality with two criminals,"

"I'm not a criminal," Yoongi snaps, frowning at Taehyung as he moves towards him, "What is your problem? Do you really think defending bad people as a lawyer is any more ethical than accepting illegally obtained evidence against a criminal? In one situation, you are preventing a bad person from learning accountability, and the other is utilising already existing evidence,"

"Whatever helps you sleep at night," Taehyung mutters darkly, "Leave,"

Yoongi tenses, ready to continue fighting. Luna stands up and steps between them, giving Yoongi a defeated look.

"He won't listen..." Luna mumbles, "Let's leave,"

Yoongi rolls his eyes, snatching up the discarded file from the table. He stands near the door, waiting for Luna to grab her bag. She follows him out, looking up at Taehyung one last time. His jaw is clenched firmly, averting his eyes.

"I'll see you tomorrow?" She asks softly.

"Sure," Taehyung scoffs, "In the back of a police cruiser,"

She sighs, following Yoongi out of the apartment. Once Taehyung slams the door closed behind them, Yoongi frowns down at Luna.

"He's not going to actually call the police, is he?" He asks.

"He won't," Luna sighs, "He has no proof... he's just angry,"

"I see," Yoongi nods, "Anyway, can I meet RM tonight?"

"I don't see why not," Luna shrugs, pulling out her phone so she can call him. She presses dial, and brings the phone to her ear, waiting for him to answer.

"What's up, sis?" He mutters tiredly.

"Hey, you know how you asked me to talk to Yoongi and Taehyung?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, Yoongi wants to talk to you," Luna smiles at Yoongi, who smiles back.

"Sure," She can hear shuffling from his end of the line, "Your place, right now?"

"Sounds good," Luna smirks, "We will be 20 minutes or so,"

"See you soon, Luna,"

"Bye,"

She hangs up, looking at Yoongi.

"Ready to meet the biggest mafia boss in the world?" Luna smirks. Yoongi scoffs, shaking his head at her joking manner.

"I have a lot of questions, so be ready," Yoongi smirks as they exit the apartment complex and climb into his car.

At least Yoongi is on board, Luna thinks to herself, I just wish Taehyung would understand.

(A/N) So, is Yoongi on board? Swing me a little comment. I'd love a little morality discourse.

See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
