Chapter 34

Luna blinks, a bright light beaming directly into her eyes. She groans, sitting up from the cold hard concrete.

"Luna? Are you okay?"

She frowns up at the voice, her brain slowly ticking over as she tries to pinpoint the who, what, where, when, and why of this situation.

"Luna, what happened? Talk to me," The voice repeats, sounding urgent.

"Hold on," She grumbles, "I need a moment,"

She was heading to Yoongi's house. Then... a group of men kidnapped her. She met The Eye, Kim Seokjin. Her boss. Jungkook is here. Taehyung... he's in danger? No... she needs to frame him.

She gasps, jumping to her feet as she spins around, panicking slightly. Her shoulders are grabbed, and she is roughly tugged to the ground, her own disorientation unbalancing her.

"Let me go! I'll kill you!" She flails around, trying to push away her attacker.

"Luna! Look at me!" Someone grabs her face with both hands, turning her so she is looking at them, "It's me! Calm down!"

"Yoongi...?" Luna frowns, looking up at the pale man in front of her. He looks terrified, the flashlight on his phone discarded to the side, illuminating the wall of the alleyway. She pulls from his grip, looking around.

They have placed her right where they took her, almost exactly. Night has fallen, the only light being Yoongi's phone and nearby streetlights. She looks to the entrance of the alleyway, then back at Yoongi. Her breathing is ragged, but her fight-or-flight response is depleted. Her shoulders slump forward as the adrenaline seeps away. She is safe.

For now.

"What happened?" Yoongi asks again, kneeling next to her.

As her brain starts to comprehend her surroundings, she begins to feel the injuries she has sustained. Her head is throbbing, her mind foggy from the multiple attacks to her skull. Her wrists and ankles are prickling from the cable ties that were there, the shadow of their existence still branded on her skin. She feels like she is wearing a helmet, the buzzing and stinging around her face and shoulders reminding her of the attacks that occurred while she was out.

She must look like a mess.

"I was kidnapped," She glares up at Yoongi, "By The Eye,"

"What? Seriously?" Yoongi demands loudly.

"Sshh," She gestures vaguely, "Not here... not safe... we need to go,"

"I'm calling an ambulance," Yoongi says firmly, going to grab his phone. She kicks out, pushing his phone out of his reach.

"No, we can't," Luna breathes, "Let's go to your house, okay?"

Yoongi stares down at her in utter disbelief, his confusion mounting with each passing second. After a moment, he sighs and nods. She can see the fear behind his eyes, but he has his professional mask on now.

He helps her to her feet, picks up her bag, and leads her out of the alleyway, directly to his house. She barely registers her surroundings, not even the luxurious complex, or the size of his apartment. She doesn't notice the size of his kitchen or the beautiful furniture. She does notice the plushness of his sofa as he gently sits her down on it.

He moves away, returning with an ice pack, a first aid kit, a bottle of water, and a chair. He sits in front of her, clasping his hands in front of him as he watches her care for her injuries.

As she begins struggling with her face, he offers to help. She relents, allowing him to apply the stinging alcohol to her cheek and jaw before leaving the broken skin uncovered. After a while, he starts to get impatient, his leg shaking as she rests the cold icepack on her jaw, occasionally moving it to the back of her head.

As her brain starts to calm and focus, she takes a look around the room. She was not expecting Yoongi to live in such a nice apartment. It is a two-bedroom apartment, decked out with various security equipment and cameras. Everything is shiny and sparkly, but that might just be her eyes playing tricks on her. It is darker than Taehyung's apartment, decorated with various shades of black, grey, and white.

Am I being underpaid or something?

"Are you ready to talk now?" Yoongi asks, grabbing Luna's attention. She looks at him warily, unsure where to start. She's still sceptical about whether he is working with Seokjin or not.

"You first," Luna says firmly, placing the icepack on the coffee table, "Why did you want to meet up?"

"I think your kidnapping is a little more important," He snaps.

"Well, I'm not comfortable going into details until I can confirm I can trust you," Luna snaps back, "So, tell me why you wanted to meet up,"

Yoongi stares at her for a moment before relenting. He may be stubborn, but she is more stubborn, even in this state.

"Seokjin made a suggestion that was suspicious," Yoongi says firmly, "He requested for us to delegate two officers to monitor that house from in front of a store nearby. The store wasn't mentioned in my report and there were no pictures of the house, which led me to believe he knows the area, too well,"

"Oh?" Luna frowns, "That's... such a minute thing,"

"The thing is," Yoongi sighs, "That house is located in a dead-end, small street. No one goes down there unless they live there. Seokjin's address is on the other side of town. There is no reason for him to go there. All the houses in that street are either empty or under suspicion. Plus, that store is thriving entirely from criminals. Why would someone who works for the police visit there and not tell anyone?"

"Okay, I see why you were concerned now," Luna nods, "So you suspect Seokjin?"

"I think he is working for The Eye," Yoongi says firmly, "Or, The Eye is bribing him. I just can't figure out which,"

"Oh boy, you have no idea how right you are," Luna chuckles.

"Explain," Yoongi retorts.

Luna begins explaining everything that happened when she was kidnapped. She tells him how Jungkook was there, how Seokjin entered and confirmed who he is, and how he wants Luna to frame Taehyung and his reason behind this. She even tells him the additional details of The Eye's history that they couldn't figure out.

Yoongi stares at her, his eyes round from astonishment and fear. Of all the things he has learnt throughout all this, he wasn't expecting that.

"Okay..." Yoongi mumbles after a moment of silence, "I assume that you were not meant to tell anyone about this?"

"Yes,"

"And you told me anyway because you can't talk to anyone else?"

"Yes," Luna chuckles, "Plus, you found me. You're kind of stuck with me now,"

"That's fair," He nods, "Why do you trust me?"

Luna shrugs.

"The way Seokjin spoke about you, the way you have been working on this case, and the fact that you started suspecting Seokjin before me," Luna explains, "How did you find me, anyway?"

"I tracked your phone," Yoongi says casually, "I was searching for you for hours, so I had to try something. I knew you would have brought your phone, even though I told you not to," He smirks.

"Fair enough," Luna nods.

"So, I guess we should start finding a way out of this, huh?" Yoongi sighs, standing up from the seat so he can pace.

"You're going to help me?" Luna asks dumbfounded, "I was only kidding... you don't have to risk your life,"

"I'm a Detective, Luna," Yoongi smirks, "It's what I do,"

She smiles gratefully, relief and comfort flooding her chest like a tidal wave. At least she's not alone with all this.

"Anyway," Yoongi says, frowning, "So now that we have our answer, all we need is proof. Where is the proof they want you to pin on Taehyung?"

Luna shrugs, gesturing towards the bag she brought with her.

"They probably slid it in there," She replies.

He moves towards her discarded bag, opening it up quickly. He pulls out a folder and brings it back to her, sitting in his vacated seat. He opens it and begins flicking through it, frowning deeply at the contents.

"Wow... this is a lot of evidence," Yoongi mutters, "Even a useless prosecutor can do a lot with this,"

"I know," Luna mutters.

"But this also tells us what he has done," Yoongi says quickly, "If he is trying to pin all these things on Taehyung, then he was behind all of them,"

"Okay..." Luna frowns, unsure where Yoongi is going with this.

"So, all we need is to check where Seokjin was during all these things," Yoongi grins, "Some of the things mentioned here we didn't even know were mafia attacks,"

"That's... genius," Luna beams, "You're a genius, Yoongi,"

"Calm down," Yoongi scoffs, "This is a good start, but we still need the proof,"

Luna slumps back onto the sofa, groaning loudly.

"I know," She sighs, "And he's not just any criminal. He would have covered his tracks,"

"Let's talk plans, okay?" Yoongi jumps up, waving for Luna to follow him. She stands up and follows him into his office. Once inside, she gasps.

He has an entire wall dedicated to this case. Every single bit of information they have ever spoken about in the office. He has an entire section dedicated to J Hope and another section dedicated to her. She blinks at him, a little startled by the organisation and intricacy of the little strings connecting each item.

"So, where should we start?" He asks, smirking confidently as he gestures to the wall.

Even though it is nearing midnight and Luna has a throbbing headache, they spend the next few hours talking about all of the information they have.

Yoongi also opens a case for the 'Investigation of Kim Taehyung'.

"We will need to make it seem like I am confirming all this information and comparing it to his alibis. This is the information I'll bring on Monday and will communicate with Seokjin. I'll make it seem like I want to keep all this hush-hush and ask to remove Taehyung from the investigation. We can't tell Taehyung too much, but I'll inform him when I can next week," Yoongi explains when Luna glares at him.

"That's a good idea," Luna nods, "It gives us time to find another way,"

"Of course," Yoongi grins, "I'm full of good ideas,"

Luna was expecting Yoongi to be more shocked and angry at the news, but finally having answers has left him excited. He is not even tired anymore, just fervently focusing on the investigation. His eyes are bright with intensity, focusing solely on his wall.

He gives her a new burner phone and tells her to not communicate with Taehyung for the time being. She agrees, but hesitantly. She doesn't want to hide things from him. The possibility of him going away for life is a huge secret.

Hopefully, angry Luna and excited Yoongi will be able to save him from Seokjin and get the right people behind bars.

. . . . .

Taehyung sighs, turning his car off in the underground garage of his apartment complex.

Luna went to visit Yoongi yesterday morning, and then essentially vanished off the face of the earth. He has been looking for her all weekend. He visited her apartment, the police station, and even called Jimin to see if he has heard from her. But no one has seen her.

He was tempted to call the police and report her missing. But just after he called Jimin, he finally received a text from her.

LUNA: Hey, sorry for not calling you, I lost track of time with Yoongi. I'll see you at work on Monday.

That's it. That's all she sent him. No explanation for her disappearance, other than Yoongi. But he doesn't believe it. Something has happened and she doesn't want to tell him.

Or she can't tell me.

Taehyung climbs out of his car, moving towards the elevator of the apartment complex.

"Good evening, Taehyung,"

He freezes, recognising that voice instantly. He used to have night terrors about him. Even now the voices in his nightmares all have his voice. Jungkook.

He turns towards his voice, spotting him leaning against one of the cement pillars of the parking lot. He has aged gracefully, with more muscles built on his broad frame. He looks more mature, but he still has that disarming innocence in his face. Like a murderous bunny.

There is no one else down here, but there are multiple security cameras. If he does anything, there will be ample proof.

"Why are you here?" Taehyung asks sternly, folding his arms. Jungkook straightens up, sauntering towards Taehyung threateningly. He wants to run away, get into the elevator before he can do anything. But he's frozen.

"Have you seen Luna today?" Jungkook smirks as he reaches him.

"No... why?" Taehyung mutters. He's not lying, he really hasn't seen her. He's not going to be able to get information out of him that easily.

"Huh," Jungkook scoffs, "Anyway, nice security," He gestures around him, "Couldn't get past it. But I could get in here,"

"I see," Taehyung mutters, "If you think I'm going to tell you where she is, you're wrong,"

"Oh, I know where she is," Jungkook chuckles, "I was just wondering if she told you,"

"Told me?" Taehyung frowns, "What do you mean?"

Jungkook looks at him, that evil grin plastered to his face. He looks like a cocky tiger, playing with his food, waiting to drop the reality onto him. What is he hiding?

"She didn't tell you where she was last night?" Jungkook asks, tilting his head innocently.

"She was with a colleague," Taehyung scoffs.

"Is that what she told you?" Jungkook tsks, "You poor naïve boy,"

"Again, I'm older than you," Taehyung mutters angrily, "I'm not stupid Jungkook, I'm not going to believe whatever bullshit you're cooking up now,"

"Not even a picture?" Jungkook pouts, "It was such a cute date, I wanted to show you,"

"What?" Taehyung snaps. He can feel the tingling anger in his fingertips, forcing him to clench and unclench his fists.

"Here," Jungkook pulls out his phone, swiping through it for a moment. Then, he lifts his phone to show him a picture.

Taehyung steps closer, his eyes widening at the screen.

Right there in front of him is a picture of Luna resting her head on Jungkook's lap in the back of a car, his hand gently brushing her hair to the side. She has a small cut on her cheek, her lips pursed as she sleeps.

"How the fuck... what did you do to her?!" Taehyung demands, attempting to swipe the phone out of his hands. Jungkook steps away, swiftly pulling the phone out of his reach.

"It's not what I did, it's what we did," He sighs dramatically, "Luna and I killed some members of The Eye, then went back to my place for some fun,"

"What...?" Taehyung looks back at the phone, but Jungkook is already putting it away, "I don't believe you..."

"A picture isn't good enough for you?" Jungkook sighs, "How about this... I was surprised she was willing to do it. I thought we'd never do it considering her trauma. But she told me all about her fun with Jimin,"

He... he can't know that.

Taehyung stares at him, the realisation dawning slowly on him, his reality collapsing around him.

She wouldn't... she wouldn't...

"She wouldn't..." Taehyung mumbles. Jungkook moves closer and pats him gently on the shoulder in an almost comforting way.

"Well, we both know I'm not above cheating... and she and I are the same, so why would she be any different?" He leans closer to Taehyung's ear, chuckling darkly, "I told you, she's mine,"

Before he can react, Jungkook turns and walks away, giving Taehyung a little salute. Taehyung watches him go, disappearing behind a random door he's never noticed before.

She wouldn't...

He pulls out his phone, his hands shaking violently as he tries to find her number.

She wouldn't... I know she wouldn't...

He presses call and brings the phone to his ear, listening to it ring. She doesn't answer.

"Fuck..." Taehyung grunts. He spins around and heads to the elevator, moving straight up to his floor. He is trembling, the barely controlled fury coursing through his blood like venom.

I feel sick.
