Chapter 3

This morning, Luna decides to drop into a little convenience store on her way to the university. A lot of students prefer to take the train, which is just around the corner from her. But it's only a 30-minute walk, so she'd rather wake up early and walk to school, enjoying the early morning crispness and listening to the bustling around her. She hasn't been able to enjoy the world around her before, and it brings her this sense of contentment, so why not?

A little ding can be heard above her as she swings the door open, revealing the tiny convenience store. The person behind the counter glances up from their phone, nodding in her direction.

"Welcome," He mutters, sounding disinterested.

Perfect. Luna grins, nodding towards the young cashier.

She moves down the aisle towards the fridges full of drinks. She eyes a delicious-looking bottle of iced mocha, the condensation glinting enticingly. She must be tired to be eyeing a simple bottle of caffeine with so much longing. She reaches for the handle to open the fridge, only to find someone else's hand already there. She pulls back instantly, looking up at the person to apologise.

"Oh, good morning, Luna," He beams, swinging open the fridge. His hair is styled today, his curly locks tame and combed as they fall in front of his face. His eyes are bright, too bright for this time of day. It's that weird guy again. What was his name?

"Good morning," Luna mumbles, too busy feeling rude to try to ignore him again.

"What are you after?" He asks, holding the door open for her. She quickly grabs the cold mocha drink, nodding towards him as thanks.

"Are you on your way to school?" He asks, closing the door after grabbing a juice for himself. She nods again, racking her brain for any mention of his name.

Why can't I remember it? Why?

"Me too," He smirks, "It's Taehyung by the way... Kim Taehyung,"

"Right," Luna chuckles, "Sorry..."

Wait, how did he know I forgot his name?! She looks up at him, a little flustered. He called her out so comfortably. Can he read her mind?

"It's okay, I could see it in your eyes," He leans towards her, wiggling his finger at her eyes with that cute grin. She frowns, taking a step back from him. Why is he even here?

He pulls the drink from her hand, spinning around to head to the counter. She potters behind him, following him to the front of the store.

"Yah, give it back," She mumbles, trying to reach for her drink without touching him. He turns so she can't reach it, placing the drinks on the counter.

The bored cashier scans the two drinks, and Taehyung pays for them. When it is all done, he grabs the drinks and leaves the store with Luna following closely behind him. Once they are outside, he passes it to her.

"Here you go," He says, "Let's walk together, yeah?"

She pouts slightly, looking down at the drink in her hand. It wasn't an expensive drink, but she doesn't like it when people buy things for her.

Anyone who spends money wants something, Luna repeats to herself. That has been the case for her entire life. So, what does this airhead want from her?

"Don't do that," She murmurs.

"Do what? Buy you a drink?" He scoffs, "It was nothing, don't worry about it," He waves her off, turning in the direction she needs to walk. He cocks his brow at her, gesturing down the little street with his head.

"Are you coming? We are going to be late at this rate,"

She huffs but does as he says. He's right, they will be late if she keeps standing around like this. He keeps pace with her, his long legs striding as she struggles to keep up.

They walk in silence, which is unusual for Taehyung. He's usually trying to fill the silence with question after question. But the entire walk to the school is completely silent. She glances up at him, curiosity getting the better of her. He is looking around at the trees and buildings as if fascinated by the scenery. Does he not usually walk this way?

Luna is done with all these questions. From now on she is going to get answers about this strange guy and his suspicious behaviour. That's a skill she has after all.

. . . . .

After her criminology class and her civics class, she makes her way to the hospitality section of the university, excited for a delicious lunch.

As soon as she enters the space, she grins. There is a plethora of little food stores in this area of the school, full of students lining up to get some lunch. There is a café, a European-style takeaway, a Spanish cuisine takeaway, some Japanese stores, and a few Korean restaurants. The hospitality facilities at this school are intense. How can they provide so much variety?

This place is too fancy.

She chooses a little Korean restaurant and begins lining up. She already knows what she wants after glancing at the menu board.

"What are you getting?"

She closes her eyes momentarily and sighs deeply, turning to look at Taehyung and his sheepish grin. Of course, he is here.

"Are you following me?" She asks, ignoring his question.

"Am I not allowed lunch?" He retorts, smirking. She flushes at his comment, turning her back to him.

Smart ass.

"Do you live near that convenience store?" He asks, trying to get her attention again.

"What's it to you?" She snaps, moving forward in the line. He shuffles behind her, peering over her shoulder at her, uncomfortably close as his breath glides over her skin.

"Curiosity," He replies softly.

"Well, keep your curiosity to yourself," She grumbles, taking a step away from him.

"So, what are you getting?" He asks again, looking up at the menu.

"Food," She replies, smirking slightly. If he can be a smart ass, so can she.

"I would hope so," He chuckles, scanning the menu. He nods to himself and looks back down at her. He must have made his decision, "I'll buy?"

"No," Luna replies, smiling as the opportunity occurs to her, "I'll buy,"

"Really?" He grins, wiggling cutely as he starts to become excited. Finally, it is their turn.

"Hello, what can I get for you?" The worker asks.

Luna gives them her order before turning to Taehyung. He begins listing off a long order, twice as much as she is getting. She stares at him for a moment, completely shocked by his audacity. He brought her one drink, only one! Why is he ordering half the store?

The server gives her the total and she pays for it hesitantly. Is he messing with her?

They move to the side, him skipping happily while she glares at him.

"What the hell?" She hisses, trying not to pout, "Why did you order so much?"

"Why didn't you ask me what I wanted first?" He retorts, "You didn't exactly ask me what I was planning on getting,"

The cook calls out their number and Taehyung walks forward to collect it. He gives Luna the smaller bag, happily eyeing the large portion of food in his bag.

"You're such a smart ass, you know that right?" She says sarcastically as they walk towards an empty table.

"I need to be," He replies as they sit on the seats, "I want to be a lawyer after all,"

"Really?" Luna frowns, "I guess that makes sense,"

"Of course it does, I am smart and handsome," He takes a huge bite of a pastry, giving her an unpleasant grin, "Just like the dramas," His muffled voice continues.

She rolls her eyes, turning her attention to her own food. She gets halfway through her food before she starts to become curious. It really feels like he has a radar that can track her down. She runs into him everywhere. She has seen this guy more than any other student in this school. She looks up to find he is almost finished with his lunch.

Well, at least he ate it all. She admits, closing up the container for her lunch. She stares at him, waiting for him to notice that she is finished and looking expectantly at him. After a moment of him continuing to eat, she speaks up.

"So, why were you at the convenience store?" she asks.

"I live near there," He replies, "Why were you there?"

"I live near there," She says, cocking her eyebrow, "Where do you live?"

He places his utensils down, his container empty as he picks up a napkin and wipes his face gently of any food residue. He places all his rubbish into the bag before looking up at her.

"Where do you live?" He replies, leaning forward and tilting his head.

"I asked first," She replies.

"I've lived here longer," He counteracts.

"I still asked first," She retorts. He sighs, watching her for a moment. His expression doesn't give anything away, but it's almost like he is contemplating her as if she is an enigma.

"Do you always walk to school?" He asks, changing the subject.

"Yes, I like it," She replies, "I haven't seen you in that area?"

"I take the train," He smirks, "And, again, I have been living here longer than you,"

He has a point...

She narrows her eyes, sizing him up. If anyone was watching them right now, they would think they are interrogating each other.

She bites the inside of her lip, deciding on a new tactic as she mimics him, tilting her head.

"So, you want to be a lawyer, huh?" She asks innocently.

"Of course," He smiles, relaxing slightly.

"How does someone become a lawyer?" She asks. She knows the answer, of course, but if he is lying, she will know.

Sadly, it doesn't go the way she is expecting. He proceeds to explain the entire process of applying for law school and becoming a lawyer in this city. His plan is slightly different, as he has the expectation of joining a specific firm. He then talks about his classes and why he takes each one.

God damn... she nods, smiling with appreciation, not bad...

He seems to have done his research.

Or he could just simply be a law student.

Luna doesn't buy it. He is too weird and it's too suspicious. There is no such thing as coincidences in her world.

"Okay," She nods, "Why do you want to be a lawyer?"

He shrugs casually.

"It seems fun, and it suits me," He supplies, "Why are you doing criminology?"

"Because it suits me," She smirks. Luckily, he has no idea how ironic that is for her.

"Not really," He replies, "You look like a criminal, so if anything, criminology doesn't suit you,"

Luna stares at him, her eyes widening at his statement. Does he... know?

"What makes you think I'm a criminal?" She snaps, folding her arms.

"I didn't say you are one, I said you look like one," He chuckles, "Plus, it's obvious,"

She waits for him to continue, but he doesn't.

"What does that mean?" She asks loudly, starting to feel a little panicked. The only way he could know is if he knows.

"You refuse to answer questions, you are snappy and avoid people," He begins listing, holding up his hand as he raises a finger with each reason, "And you are suspicious of me,"

"Me being suspicious of you makes me a criminal?" She chuckles, "What a stupid reason,"

"You also became incredibly anxious when I said you look like a criminal," He adds, "So, who are you, Lee Luna?"

She rolls her eyes, instantly calming herself as she relaxes in her seat. She needs to calm down because she is being pretty suspicious. But, then again, she wasn't expecting Mr Detective to follow her around.

"Sure, Sherlock," She teases, "Maybe you can look me up on the criminal database or something,"

He starts laughing, smacking the table as tears of laughter gloss his eyes. He looks incredibly handsome when he laughs, something that makes Luna blush as soon as the thought occurs to her.
"That's a good one," He grins, taking a big breath in to calm himself, "Anyway, ready for class?"

"Sure," She replies, standing up from the table to follow him to class.

She learnt a few new things about him, but she isn't convinced. Either he really is Sherlock, or he knows who she is. Either way, she is going to have to be more careful around him and watch her back.

I'll figure you out, Taehyung.

. . . . .

Finally, it is the weekend...

Luna sighs to herself, sliding out of her bed to have a quick morning shower. She has slept in long enough; she needs to get up and be productive.

Once she is dressed and ready for a nice relaxing day, she moves into the living room. Jimin is sitting on the sofa watching TV. He has a deep bruise forming along his jaw.

She doesn't comment on it.

"Good morning," he says, yawning loudly and painfully.

"Morning," She chuckles, opening the fridge. She sighs, eyeing the empty shelf.

"What is it?" He asks as she closes it.

"We don't have any milk... or eggs," She replies, "Where is Hoseok?"

"Work," Jimin says simply, "Here,"

He holds up his card so she can see it. She moves over and takes it from his hand, frowning slightly.

"Go get some groceries," He murmurs, his eyes never leaving the screen. She rolls her eyes, moving towards the front door, "Thank you," He calls after her. She responds with her favourite middle finger, making him chuckle in response. She slides on some shoes and exits the apartment, letting the door slam behind her.

Jerk... couldn't even grab some milk...

She heads to the elevator, putting the card into her phone case before sliding it into her pocket. She presses the button, waiting patiently for it to arrive.

"Oh, good morning,"

She spins around, recognising that deep voice anywhere. Taehyung looks at her curiously, his head turned to the side as if he is shocked to see her. He is wearing grey sweatpants and a loose baggy T-shirt. His hair is a curly mess, tickling the tops of his eyelids.

"What the hell are you doing here?" She demands, storming towards him, "I knew you were following me!"

"Woah!" He holds his hands up defensively, "I'm just as surprised as you are,"

"Sure you are," She sneers, "Are you stalking me? Hm?"

"Huh?" He stares at her, dumbfounded.

"Why are you here?" She snaps, folding her arms across her chest, her legs slightly wider than shoulder-width apart as she prepares herself for any attack this guy might have.

"I'm just... going out for coffee," He mutters, his eyebrows high on his forehead, "I've run out,"

He gestures down the hall towards one of the apartments.

"You expect me to believe you live here?" She scoffs.

"You expect me to believe you do?" He smirks, "I've never seen you, and I've been here for a year. Are you following me?" He counteracts, pouting slightly as he becomes frustrated.

"W-What? Why would I follow you?" She stutters, becoming flabbergasted.

"Exactly," He says firmly, "Why would I follow you?"

"Well... because..." She mutters, starting to feel embarrassed. She glances at his hand where she can see the signature keychain for the apartment keycard. He really does live here.

"So," He sighs, moving past her to get into the elevator, "Are you going to keep being weird, or are you going down?"

She frowns, quickly shuffling into the elevator.

"I'm not weird... you're the weird one..." she mumbles quietly, trying to hide her embarrassment. Is he really just a normal university student?

"Sure, kitty," He smirks, pressing the 1F button on the elevator.

"YAH!" she yells, clenching her fists as the doors close.
