Chapter 29

"All right," Yoongi sighs, sitting on a seat at the huge table, "What am I missing?"

Yoongi's secret office is an isolated room down the hall from Seokjin's office. It has 3 office chairs and a small conference table, about 3 metres by 1 metre. There is also a locked metal filing cabinet in the corner, which Luna assumes is where all the documents go at the end of the day. There are no windows, no cameras, nothing. There is even soundproofing on most of the walls. This is a room made for secrets.

Luna looks around the table in awe. He has pictures, graphs, documentation, investigations, and cases containing everything and anything the police could know about The Reapers and The Eye. He even has an entire section of the table dedicated to the notorious J Hope. At first glance, it looks like a huge mess of paper, but it is intricately sorted into timelines and connections.

His information on The Eye is limited, and so is his American documentation. How was he able to gain access to international documents?

Luna continues to eye the table, her eyes wide with shock and admiration. This explains why Seokjin asked Yoongi to run this task force.

"This is amazing, Yoongi," She mumbles, "How did you get the US documents?"

"It was easy," Yoongi shrugs, "I have a few friends in the FBI and told them what our issues have been. From there, we have been working together,"

"I see," Luna bites her lip, "What have they said about the Faith issue?"

"Well, Faith has never been a concern of theirs honestly," Yoongi chuckles, "I thought it was because Faith isn't as infamous as I thought, but apparently it's more because of what the targets were,"

Luna nods in agreement. She was mostly in charge of taking out the competition, especially highly trained competition. For all they know, she was a vigilante. Not that being a murderous vigilante is any less illegal, but it wouldn't be problem number one.

"That's fair," Luna sighs, "Okay, let's get started with the J hope section,"

Luna proceeds to explain his role in expanding to Korea and how he has impacted the mafia groups here. She tells him that he is a professional weapons dealer who is in charge of distribution and control of the region.

"He's done a good job," Yoongi comments, rearranging the paper and putting some aside. He looks up at her, his eyes narrowed with determination, "Does our criminal snitch know this person?"

Luna glances at him, realising very quickly that she is going to be referred to as the snitch in this room.

"No," Luna says firmly, "Not personally. They were mentioned occasionally and are infamous in America too,"

"I see," Yoongi stares at her for a little while longer, searching her face for any lies. If he finds any falsehood in her expression, he doesn't say anything. He turns back to the J hope pile and removes another case.

"All right, these are all the cases mentioning The Eye," Yoongi explains, gesturing to the next section on the table.

Luna skims through these documents, a little startled by the size of the pile. The Eye has been busy here. Does Namjoon know? Do Jimin and Hoseok know? How long has he been infiltrating this area?

"So, you literally only know that The Eye is from America, is that correct?"

"Yes," Yoongi nods.

"Well, it's more complicated than that," Luna says, "The Eye is the leader of a rival mafia group of The Reapers. He would be in his 60s these days. They were initially from Europe but wanted to expand to the US. The Reapers halted that and started working with other groups in Europe to decrease their threat. So, The Eye has a personal vendetta against my – uh I mean The Reapers,"

"I see," Yoongi sighs, "What about this one?"

Luna and Yoongi spend the next few hours combing through each of the documents with a fine-toothed comb. Some documents are completely removed from the table, and some are moved to other parts of the table. By the end of it, Yoongi looks pleased, that wild glint in his eyes that he gets when the pieces of the puzzle are starting to connect.

Luna checks her phone to find that it is quarter past 7. Quickly, she jumps up and prepares to go.

"Listen, Taehyung is waiting for me, so I have to go," Luna says quickly.

"Wait," Yoongi grabs her arm, looking at her seriously, "He can't know any of this, okay?"

"Don't worry, I understand the secrecy around this," Luna smiles, pulling from his grip, "But we will talk about that tomorrow, okay?"

"Sure," Yoongi shrugs, "Bye bye, Kitty,"

Luna rolls her eyes and exits the room, rushing out to meet Taehyung, her mind whirling with all the new information.

The only thing on her mind right now is Hoseok and Jimin. She needs to ask them if they know anything about the increase. She knows Jimin has had a very limited list of jobs, which means that most of the criminal activity is from The Eye. Do they know? Are they in danger?

She spots Taehyung leaning against his car, pouting a little.

"Hey Luna," He beams, looking up at her, "You finished late today?"

"Yeah, huge case," Luna sighs, "Can we hang out tomorrow instead? I need to go see Hoseok and Jimin,"

"Sure," He replies, "I can drive you there if you'd like. It's pretty far from here, right?"

"Yeah, they're still in that apartment," Luna chuckles, "I'd greatly appreciate it, thank you,"

He nods and gestures for her to get in.

She slides into his car, and they drive off, heading to her old place.

After a moment, Taehyung speaks.

"Am I... allowed to join?" He asks casually. She bites her lip, unsure what to say to him. She can't explain anything yet, so she can't have him privy to the conversation.

"Not this time," Luna says, "This one is... I'll explain it when I can, okay?"

Taehyung nods and doesn't respond, leaving them to drive there in silence. She can only hope he isn't worried about Jimin in all this.

After 30 minutes, they arrive. He parks and looks at her expectantly.

"I can pick you up if you'd like," Taehyung suggests.

"No, it's okay, I don't want to bother you,"

"It wouldn't bother me," He frowns, "It would comfort me,"

Luna blushes, nodding at his request.

"Okay, I'll text you when I'm ready," Luna smiles, climbing out of the car.

"Hey, Luna," He calls out. She brings her head down to look into the car, a little worried.

"Yeah?" She asks.

"Stay safe," He grins, "Love you,"

She flushes deeply, heating up everywhere at his words.

"L-L-Love?" She stammers, "Tae... it's been 24 hours..."

"I've had 5 years to be certain," He smirks.

Becoming flustered and disorientated at the giddiness and warmth building rapidly in her chest, she panics. She closes the door quickly and sprints towards the front doors of the apartment complex. Luckily, when she looks back to wave at him, he is laughing at her retreating figure. He waves and drives off, leaving her to head up by herself.

He has matured a lot.

. . . . .

"Hey, Hobi! Guess who has come to visit again?" Jimin calls out as he lets Luna in. She moves into the living room, spotting Hoseok sitting at the dining table. They've already had dinner and cleaned up. There are two glasses of a golden substance on the table. Luna is going to assume it's alcohol.

"Hey! Luna!" Hoseok cheers, "Want a drink?"

"I guess," She shrugs, moving to sit at the table. Jimin makes her a drink before joining them, sliding in beside Luna. They look at her expectantly, their cheeks a little flushed from mild intoxication.

"To what do we owe this pleasure?" Hoseok asks.

"It's about a case I have," Luna starts, "What have you two been up to with work?"

Hoseok frowns, folding his arms defensively. Jimin cocks his eyebrow at her, confused by her statement.

"I thought you didn't want to hear about our work?" Hoseok retorts, "Being a detective and all that,"

"Yeah... we had a whole discussion about separating our work lives," Jimin points out.

"I know... I'm just worried," Luna explains, "I'm involved in an investigation into The Eye and The Reapers, and there has been a lot of activity from The Eye,"

Hoseok's expression remains blank, but Jimin looks surprised.

"Seriously?" He mutters, his eyes widening, "Does RM know?"

"I don't know... could you pass on the information?" She asks.

"Of course," Jimin nods, "What about your work, Hoseok?"

Hoseok sighs and leans forward, looking suddenly serious.

"I haven't had any problems on my side of the fence," Hoseok shrugs, "What have you found out?"

Luna goes to explain everything but stops herself. She can't be talking to them about the investigation. If she's not going to give Taehyung details, she's not going to give them details.

"I can't say," Luna explains, "One of our suspects was killed after revealing that there are followers of The Eye in the police force. I don't want to risk you guys,"

Hoseok's eyes widen slightly in surprise, but other than that he doesn't react. Jimin looks deeply unsettled at this.

"I'll inform RM as soon as possible," Jimin says firmly, "We can't have The Eye wreaking havoc in Korea,"

"Very true," Hoseok agrees, "Is there anything specific we need to be looking out for?"

"Just keep doing what you are doing, but be cautious," Luna explains, "Arresting you two is one thing, but I don't want to see you come across my desk as a homicide, okay?"

They both nod briskly, taking Luna's warning to heart.

"Don't worry about us too much," Hoseok smiles, patting Luna's hand to comfort her, "You need to be more cautious, considering..."

"Yeah..." Jimin frowns, "Hoseok, could you get your friend to make me a police ID?"

"NO!" Luna yells suddenly. They look at her, startled.

"Why not?" Hoseok pouts, "He did a good job with your ID,"

"No, he didn't," Luna rolls her eyes, "All it took was for one detective to actually look into my past and he figured out everything,"

"Seriously?" Hoseok gasps.

"Are you okay?" Jimin demands.

"I'm fine," Luna chuckles, "He has no proof on me so he can't do anything. Plus, he's a good friend,"

"Right," Hoseok nods, but he doesn't seem to believe her.

"Are you sure?" Jimin asks again.

"Yes, trust me, it's fine," Luna smirks, "I wouldn't be sitting here otherwise,"

"True," Jimin shrugs, still frowning with concern. Hoseok, however, seems to be taking the legitimacy of his friend seriously.

"I'll deal with my... friend... In the meantime, I'll find someone who can edit your information," He murmurs darkly.

"Yes please," Luna chuckles, "Everything before I moved here is apparently very easy to validate as false,"

"Right," Hoseok nods, "Leave it with me,"

"Thanks, Hobi," Luna grins.

"No problem, princess," Hoseok beams, wiggling cutely at the sound of his nickname. The switch from work Hoseok to sunshine Hoseok is interesting to witness.

"Now!" Jimin claps, "Drink with us for a bit?" He wiggles his eyebrows cutely, taking a swig of his drink.

"One hour," Luna says firmly, "I need some sleep,"

"Of course, detective," Jimin smirks.

"I just need to text Tae," She murmurs, pulling out her phone.

"Tae? Kim Taehyung?" Jimin gasps, "No way! You guys are talking?"

"Tell us everything!" Hoseok demands dramatically.

Luna explains everything that has happened since he arrived, including his minor bout of jealousy with Jimin, and the fact that they are dating again.

"Ah, I guess I probably shouldn't text him then?" Jimin pouts.

"No, he seems fine now," Luna grins, "But he did say he will pick me up,"

"Tell him to come join us!" Hoseok declares, "We have had our business conversation, right?"

"Okay, I'll ask him," Luna grins, typing out a text to him.

. . . . .

Taehyung:

Taehyung sighs, tapping on the steering wheel of his car. He is sitting in the parking lot of the apartment complex, waiting for her to text him. He's sure that it'll be a few hours from now, but he's worried.

He's not necessarily jealous, and he trusts Luna. Most of his feelings stem from all those years ago, a little reminder of the juvenile actions he had back then.

He hasn't been able to deal with his jealousy issues yet, but he doesn't want to have a controlling, toxic relationship with her. He trusts her, and he trusts Jimin. Realistically, he knows there is nothing to stress about. But it's almost involuntary like the neurological pathway has been engraved into his subconscious, becoming an automatic reaction.

But he doesn't want to be like that.

He jumps at the sound of his phone, chirping in the centre console of his car. He picks it up and grins, spotting a text from Luna.

LUNA: Hey, Hoseok is wondering if you want to join us.

He frowns at the text before responding.

TAE: Is that okay?

LUNA: Of course. We've already had our work conversation. They have missed you.

TAE: Really? Okay, I'll be 10 minutes.

Taehyung puts aside his phone, grinning from ear to ear. It has only been 20 minutes since he dropped her off, so he needs to make it seem like he was just nearby, not sitting in the parking lot.

Ah, who cares? Why am I hiding like I'm doing something wrong?

Taehyung shakes his head, climbing out of his car and heading up to Jimin and Hoseok's apartment. As soon as he steps off the elevator, his eyes gravitate to the door of his old apartment. He smiles as a reel of memories streams from it. The cuddling, the kisses, Jungkook...

He shakes his head, moving towards the other familiar door and knocking.

He hears a few pitter-patters of feet, and the door is wrenched open, revealing Hoseok and Jimin.

"TAE!"

"HEY!"

They cheer happily, dragging him inside. He almost stumbles trying to slide his shoes off as they lead him into the living room and then the dining room, plopping him onto a seat beside Luna.

She grins at him, passing him a glass of alcohol.

"Hey," She mumbles, "Sorry, they're excited,"

"I can see that," Taehyung smirks, "I was just outside,"

"I thought so," Luna chuckles.

"So, Tae," Hoseok starts, sitting down at the dining table with the bottle of alcohol, "Tell us everything,"

"Yes! Everything!" Jimin repeats, patting him on the back. Jimin looks slightly wary as if he is worried Taehyung is going to say something. Luna must have warned him that she told him about their relationship.

Taehyung beams at him, comfortably going into details about his life in America. Slowly, Jimin starts to loosen up.

Jimin tried to keep in contact with Taehyung as much as he could. For that, Taehyung will always be grateful. Sure, they spoke only a few times every few months, but he really tried.

The more they talk, each of them bringing up various legal events that have occurred over the past 5 years, Taehyung starts to observe Luna and Jimin's interactions. If she hadn't told Taehyung about their little fling, he would never have guessed that they once dated. They are still comfortable around each other, nothing more and nothing less. Jimin doesn't make any sexual remarks or say anything he wouldn't normally say.

Even when Hoseok brings it up, they don't blush or become shy. They laugh about it like it's a simple memory from the past. A fond instance that won't repeat itself.

Jimin does seem to be consistently bringing up how Taehyung and Luna look good together, which sounds a little like overcompensation. But he is just simply trying to ensure Taehyung doesn't misunderstand their relationship. Their friendship. Which Taehyung is grateful for but he does keep trying to soothe Jimin's anxiety about it.

By the time Taehyung and Luna are ready to catch a taxi home, Jimin has hugged and kissed Taehyung more than anyone tonight. They walk them out to the waiting taxi, drunkenly waving goodbye and blowing kisses.

Jimin is such a flirt when he's drunk. Hoseok, however, looks beyond tired.

They reach Luna's place at 11 pm, both barely tipsy, but drunk on the intoxicating atmosphere Jimin and Hoseok created.

Once they enter her apartment, Luna heads straight to the shower. Once she is done and dressed, she sends Taehyung into the bathroom. After last night, Taehyung decided to pack a bag to bring to her house, so he has toiletries, spare clothes, and sleepwear.

After a while, they are finally snuggled up in Luna's bed, the TV playing a random movie to help soothe them into dreamland. Luna is clinging to Taehyung's side, nuzzling into his neck. He has goosebumps on goosebumps as she does this, grinning at the tingling sensation that spreads throughout his body at her touch.

"Ready to sleep?" Taehyung whispers, trying to look down at her. She nods, brushing her face against the sensitive skin of his neck. He grins, turning so that he's facing her, pulling her leg up his side. She continues to bury her face into his chest, giggling quietly at the sudden movement.

"Sleep well, Kitty," Taehyung murmurs huskily, "Goodnight,"

"Goodnight, Tae," Luna mumbles, barely audible as her exhaustion consumes her, lulling her into a deep sleep. He wraps his arms tightly around her, ensuring she is comfortably snuggled into his embrace.

I fucking love you, Luna, he smirks to himself, more than you'll ever know.

(A/N) Just a bit of boring plot filler, advancing the story and all that.

See ya tomorrow 🫰🫰🫰
