Chapter 27

TW: SA Trauma response mentioned

"Oh, good morning, Kitty," Yoongi grins, "I'm guessing your date went well?"

Luna flushes, unsure if she wants to punch him or laugh at him.

She has just entered the office, cheerfully humming to herself as she prepares for the morning briefing.

"What date? I didn't go on a date," Luna snaps, "Keep your thoughts to yourself meow meow,"

"Meow meow? Really?" He frowns. She can almost hear him hissing at her, grumpily sitting at his desk.

It really is like the pot calling the kettle black, huh?

She doesn't hate that he calls her Kitty. It stopped reminding her of Taehyung years ago after Jimin started calling her that as well. She really doesn't see what they mean. Taehyung started calling her that because she is standoffish, her name sounds like a cat's name, and she is below average in height. Jimin agreed, and Luna accidentally let it slip to Yoongi when he asked her why she was so spry and fit. So, it is now her official nickname with her friends, and it all started with him.

It all starts with him.

She started calling Yoongi a cat for similar reasons that they call her kitty, but mostly because he reacts so negatively to it. It's hilarious.

"Meeting time!" Seokjin calls out, sauntering into the conference room. All of the detectives jump up from their desks and rush into the room, bowing respectfully as they pass him.

Luna takes her usual seat, and the meeting begins.

Luna receives 2 new cases that came in last night. On top of her warrant going through and her perp being apprehended at 4 am, she has a lot of work to do today.

Yoongi is tasked with supporting Luna with all this work, which makes her grin smugly at him. He also receives a case, another gang-related crime.

Luna has started to notice that Yoongi receives almost all of the gang-related cases. He seems to be drowning in them, especially since there has been an increase in mafia activity over the past year. She's not sure why Seokjin won't hand them over to her, but she's pretty sure they have a secret arrangement sorted between them. At one point she was worried that they knew her past, but that's impossible. She wouldn't be working here if they knew she was once a criminal. Plus, no one else receives these cases either. She just hopes that The Reapers aren't behind this increase in crime.

Mr Lee dismisses the room, and they all make their way past him and Seokjin, bowing once again. As Luna passes them, Seokjin speaks up.

"Good job with the closed cases yesterday," He winks, "But your anger management course starts tomorrow,"

"Yes, sir," Luna mutters, feeling a little bitter.

This will be the third time Luna has had to do anger management classes after going a little too far with a perp. This one will be her last warning.

"You gotta listen this time," Yoongi teases as they make their way to their desks, "You're gonna lose your job at this rate,"

"I won't lose my job," Luna sighs, "Something worse will happen,"

"What?" Yoongi frowns.

"I'll be demoted," Luna pouts, looking up at Yoongi dramatically, "I don't wanna be a cop again,"

"Well, control your anger, kitty," Yoongi chuckles, "Put those claws away or they'll declaw you,"

"That's cruel," Luna mutters, "Jerk,"

They reach their desks and get to work.

Luna starts her day by interrogating the perp that was picked up that morning. Yoongi and Seokjin watch as she gets all the information she needs from him. It wasn't hard, the poor guy has given up on trying to pretend he's innocent. They have video footage, physical evidence from his car, and a witness. They congratulate her on not losing her cool, which infuriates her, before she heads back to her desk to do the boring paperwork.

When she returns to her computer to check the upload of the interrogation footage, she finds something that makes her groan aloud.

"What's wrong?" Yoongi asks curiously, reaching his desk right on time.

"Taehyung is the prosecutor for my case," Luna pouts.

"So, the date didn't go well, huh?" Yoongi smirks. She narrows her eyes at him but ignores this little quip.

"I'm more worried about him not closing my cases," Luna snaps, "He's going to affect my numbers,"

"You care too much about arrest numbers," Yoongi scoffs, "Just email him the evidence,"

"Urgh, whatever," Luna rolls her eyes and types up an email. It doesn't take him long to reply.

"He wants me to go see him," Luna frowns, "Wish me luck,"

"Have fun," He smirks, turning back to his computer.

Luna heads up to his office, entering as soon as he responds to her knocking.

"You wanted to see me?" Luna mutters, moving over to sit in front of his desk. He is frowning at the screen but begins smiling as soon as he turns to look at her.

"Yes, I'm just a little confused about this one,"

Taehyung shows her the itemised list of evidence, gesturing to one of the points.

"You don't have a picture of this one, why is that?"

"Oh..." Luna blushes, "Sorry, I thought I uploaded it... I'll go do that,"

Luna silently curses herself. If she is going to complain about him, she needs to make sure she's doing her job right.

"Before you go," Taehyung leans forward, "Want to go for lunch today?"

Luna sighs and looks up at him. Her heart is racing as he looks at her hopefully. Her mind is battling between her feelings for him, her ability to be professional, and that little grudge she is holding against him.

Which side will prevail?

"Sure," She smirks shyly, "I eat at that café across the road,"

"Sounds good," He smirks, "Let's go,"

He quickly jumps up from his seat and grabs his jacket. He follows her out of his office and down to the parking lot. He has his hands in his pockets, happily walking beside her as they make conversation. He complains about the other detectives he's working with, and she complains about her mandated anger management course, which makes Taehyung laugh.

They order some food and take it to Luna's favourite seat. She usually does this with Yoongi, but he wouldn't mind, would he?

"So, did you enjoy our dinner last night?" Taehyung smirks, "As friends?"

She blushes, unsure how she wants to answer. If she is honest with him, how will he react? They both got jealous last night, and there are obvious feelings there. But nothing has changed. She is still who she is with her dangerous history.

"It was a good meal," She replies evasively, "What about you?"

"It was..." He pauses, "Enlightening,"

"Huh? How?" Luna frowns.

He smirks and tilts his head, leaning closer to her over the small table.

"You," He taps her nose with his finger, "Still have feelings for me,"

"You don't know that" Luna snaps, her nose tingling a little from his touch.

"Oh? So, you weren't jealous?" He asks sarcastically.

"Oh? And you weren't either?" She mimics, folding her arms. He nods a little, conceding.

"True... I didn't say that I wasn't," He chuckles, "But you're still stubborn and like to avoid questions like this,"

Luna narrows her eyes at him, feeling a little cornered. She hates that she is practically wearing her heart on her sleeve and Taehyung is reading her like an open book. Yet she can't really tell what he's feeling. She has to psychoanalyse every single movement he makes to get her answers. Why does he read her so easily? No one else does, so what makes him so special?

Eventually, she decides to change the subject. She starts encouraging him to tell her stories of America, pulling the attention away from her. Yes, she knows that she is proving his point by avoiding the subject, but he doesn't argue the point either.

By the time they are back at his office, she has learnt a lot about his time overseas. He interned in New York, which he found to be chaotic and busy. Everything was also a lot more expensive there, but he did enjoy spending time with the little group of people he worked with. The girl he dated used to work for the law firm he interned at. But she was really arrogant, which is why it didn't last long. He also found her boring. After that, he spent most of his time studying and working.

She would like to say that she didn't feel happy hearing him complain about his ex, but it did. It definitely did.

"So, how has your life been?" Taehyung asks, taking a seat at his desk.

"We can talk about that next time," Luna smirks, standing at the door to his office, "I need to go back to work,"

"Wait!" He jumps up, halting her as she goes to leave the room, "Can we hang out tonight?"

"Huh? Why?" Luna frowns, "We hung out last night and today,"

"So? You don't want to see me that much?" He laughs.

She blushes, her heart forcing her to agree.

"Fine, where?" She mumbles.

"Your place, I'm still unpacking," He grins, "Plus, we always went to my place, remember?"

"Yeah, yeah, okay," She sighs, "See you after work then,"

"Okay," He grins, allowing her to leave his office, "See ya!" He yells out the door, grabbing the attention of the other prosecutors, who eye them curiously.

Her ears red with embarrassment, she returns to the detective's office and sits at her desk. Yoongi is sitting in front of her, reading through a file as he munches on a pastry. At the sight of him working diligently, she pulls herself together and brings her focus back to work.

She uploads the picture Taehyung requested from the missing evidence, before addressing the warrant.

"Hey, I need to go search that house, wanna come?" She asks, grabbing her things.

"No, I'm busy," He replies blankly as he frowns down at the document. She considers him for a moment before shrugging. He usually loves warrant searches, what's so important that he can't come?

Is he mad because I didn't go to lunch with him?

Luna scoffs, completely unnerved at the possibility. Yoongi wouldn't be jealous, or anything like that. If he is mad at her, he'd say something. He always does.

She finishes collecting her things and heads out, rounding up a group of officers to accompany her.

She spends the rest of the day following up on leads and interviewing suspects and witnesses for her two new cases. After passing on all the evidence to Prosecutor Choi, and filing away all her evidence, documentation, and case notes, she's finally had enough. Luckily, it is nearing 7 pm, so she doesn't have to hang around for long.

Now, she can focus on her new case: The case of Min Yoongi's misplaced anger.

Ever since Luna went to lunch with Taehyung, he has been moody and closed off. Every time she talks to him, or jokes with him he responds blankly or not at all. But, even with all this, she has observed him watching her carefully. He doesn't necessarily follow her, but every time she is at her desk, he looks over his shoulder at her, his eyes full of some unknown emotion. She has never seen this expression on his face before.

The only conclusion she has been able to draw is this: He is jealous. Luna has managed to make another friend who has fallen deeply for her.

Why does this keep happening to me?

As the day comes to a close, Yoongi grabs his things and leaves without saying goodbye to her. She watches him go and sighs. She has no idea how she is going to talk this out with him. It'll be hard to explain to him that she already likes someone else.

Not that she has feelings for Taehyung or anything.

Okay, maybe she is in denial and delusional, jumping from acceptance to refusal. But nothing has changed between them. Nothing at all. So, she'd rather run and hide from her feelings than feel the hurt she felt that night in the hospital all over again.

She heads out of the office to see Taehyung leaning against his car, waiting for her to finish. As she reaches him, his face lights up like a kid on Christmas day.

"Hey," He grins.

"Hi, ready to go?" She replies.

They slide into his car and drive to her home. He parks the car, and she leads him up to her apartment, feeling a little nervous.

She doesn't live in a beautiful, fancy apartment. It is reasonably sized and has everything she needs. It's even close to the station, which is why she never bothered buying a car.

It is a moderate-sized studio apartment with a key lock doorknob. She unlocks the door and enters, sliding off her shoes before passing Taehyung some slippers.

As soon as they enter, they are in the apartment. Once they step over the little step that is the foyer, it opens up to reveal an open space. On the right is her bed, pushed into the corner with a TV sitting on a desk separating her room from the kitchen and dining room. She doesn't have a lounge room, but she never really needed one. On the left is a door that leads to the bathroom and toilet.

She doesn't have marble bench tops or shiny faucets, but it is clean and functional. It is her first real home.

Taehyung looks around, smiling as he observes her bed and the little posters on the walls. Ignoring the happy glint in his eyes, she moves into the kitchen.

"I have some ramen we can have for dinner if you'd like," Luna suggests, lifting a bag to show him, "I'm starving,"

He nods in agreement, sitting down at the dining table to watch her prepare the food. Once she is done, she serves it up and they eat in silence. Taehyung takes the empty bowls and cleans them, ignoring Luna's protests.

Eventually, they find themselves sitting at the dining table, quietly observing each other. After a moment, Taehyung speaks.

"So, are you going to tell me your story now?" He asks. She sifts through her memories, trying to find something interesting to talk about.

"Well, there isn't much to tell," Luna shrugs, "After my first year, I dropped out of university and joined the police academy. I did really well there and started working at that police station. After a year, I was promoted to detective,"

"Okay," He nods along passively, "Anything funny?"

"Hmm, nothing I want to repeat," Luna chuckles.

"Why?" Taehyung frowns.

Well, her first thought was the day Hoseok found out she and Jimin had started dating. Her second thought was when he arrived home early only to find them being very friendly on the sofa.

She decides on a funny memory about Yoongi.

"You know, everyone calls me kitty now," She smirks.

"Oh? Why's that?" He chuckles.

She proceeds to tell him about the day they were chasing a perp and Yoongi was having a hard time keeping up with her. When they caught the guy, he asked her how she has managed to be so fit and light on her feet. Out of fear of revealing her past, she mumbled something about being called a cat, and now it has stuck.

"Jimin and Hoseok also call me Kitty because of you," Luna laughs, "You gave me my first nickname here,"

"I'm glad," He beams, "It was my favourite nickname for you,"

She blushes, her eyes darting around to room for something else to talk about. She is just about to suggest watching a drama when she realises that would lead them to her bed. Together.

But, as her eyes look to the bed, Taehyung gets the hint.

"Want to watch something?" He asks, gesturing towards it, "Don't have to worry about an awkward silence if there's a movie on,"

Her ears go red, and her heart starts beating hard against her ribcage, but she nods anyway.

They move to her bed, leaning against the wall her bed is pushed up against with a space between them. Luna grabs a pillow each for them so it's more comfortable, but Taehyung is just snickering at her. Like the magician that he is, he sees right through her confident façade. She ignores him, putting on a random movie from the recommended list. As it starts to play, Taehyung has another question.

"Out of curiosity, how are you going with your trauma?" He asks.

"Ah, working at a police station has made me a lot less jumpy for some reason," Luna laughs awkwardly, "Plus, I was seeing a therapist a few years back,"

"Did you talk to them about your other trauma?" He hints.

She looks at him, wondering what he could be hinting at. The concern and comfort in his eyes bring back the memories of them cuddling, and she realises what he means. She does not want to talk about it.

Not because it's still a problem. She started dealing with it with the therapist. But she doesn't want to explain to Taehyung how she dealt with it. She used Jimin.

To be fair, the therapist had recommended it because they were dating, and she was already in that headspace anyway – hypersexuality is a complex trauma response. She still has her moments, but nowhere near the panic she had before. But these things take time. She doesn't want to enlighten him with that sort of imagery.

"Yeah, I dealt with that," Luna mumbles, turning her attention to the TV.

"How do you know? If you don't mind me asking," Taehyung mumbles, leaning to the side so their shoulders touch.

"What are you suggesting?" She smirks, looking up at him, flirty confidence coming to her aid. Instead of continuing the subtle flirting, he frowns and pulls back.

"Wow, you really did deal with it?" He mutters, "How? Do you still panic?"

She blushes and looks away.

"I don't panic as much anymore..." She replies, subtly hinting that she has found out.

"So, you did find out?"

Then, he asks the one question that she was hoping he wouldn't.

"Was it Jimin?"

She grimaces, pausing the movie and turning so she is facing him, leaning against the head of her bed. His face looks shocked, but there's this subtle hint of determination hidden behind his eyes. He wants the truth, and she can't keep evading the question.

"Yes," She says firmly, "I dealt with my trauma by using Jimin,"

(A/N) Is Yoongi jealous too? Is Taehyung gonna get jealous over this revelation?

See ya tomorrow 🫰 🫰 🫰
