Chapter 18

TW: Violence

Is he really gone?

Luna frowns, biting her lip as she arrives home with Jimin and Taehyung.

It is Friday, so she has two days to relax away from the stress of exams this week.

Jaemi and her friends have finally left her alone, besides the occasional glare or look of annoyance. But Luna couldn't care less what they think about her. The only thing that irritated her about Jaemi and her friends was the stupid rumours and the confrontation. Sure, she could have simply just followed along with Jaemi's little game from the beginning and introduced herself properly. But it wouldn't have ended there. It never does with people like that.

She was hoping that if she was cold and distant, Jaemi would leave her alone. But Taehyung really ruined that for her.

But some random rich girl hating her? That's the least of her concern these days.

Jungkook still hasn't turned up, at all. He hasn't turned up at school or informed the teachers of his absence. He hasn't tried to get in contact with Luna or approached her outside of school. It is almost like he has vanished, literally.

Hoseok went over and watched his house for almost a full 24 hours, using the information he had received from his criminal sources.

Jungkook hasn't been home. Hoseok asked his neighbours and a nosy lady in the apartment complex. But no one has seen him since Monday.

Jimin and Luna say a quick goodbye to Taehyung before entering their apartment, greeting Hoseok hesitantly.

"Good afternoon, you two," Hoseok smiles, heavy bags under his eyes.

"Hey," Jimin smiles. Luna nods and heads to her room to put her things away before returning to the living room.

"So, have you found anything else on Jungkook?" Luna asks Hoseok as she sits on the sofa beside him, Jimin on his other side.

"No, nothing," He sighs, "But I do have business tomorrow, so I need to rest,"

"Business?" Jimin frowns, "Have you been receiving orders?"

"Of course," Hoseok smirks, "Well, I haven't heard from any of the Reapers, but I am an arms dealer,"

"Grim let you work with other people?" Jimin asks, shocked.

"Yeah," Hoseok shrugs, "As long as I don't supply any of the weapons used against him, he never minded, and RM hasn't said anything yet,"

"How do you prevent criminals from committing specific crimes with weapons?" Luna asks curiously.

"Why do you think Grim wanted me here in the first place?" Hoseok scoffs, "I am very convincing. I haven't had anyone use any of my weapons against The Reapers in Korea for years,"

"Seriously?" Jimin frowns, "How did you manage that?"

Hoseok smirks, turning his eyes to Jimin carefully. There is a dark glint in his eyes, a look Luna hasn't seen before. Even she can feel the tension behind his eyes. It's like learning about the intense heat of the sun. So beautiful and bright, yet so deadly.

"I'm good at my job," Hoseok says firmly, his tone dropping dangerously, "I thought we didn't ask questions?"

Jimin stiffens, understanding clearly the intention behind his words. In this area of work, what you don't know won't hurt you, and not knowing will keep you alive.

"Sorry," Jimin murmurs, shuffling on the sofa uncomfortably, "I only got curious because I haven't had any work recently..."

"Anyway, back to Jungkook," Luna interrupts, "Where could he possibly be if he's not home?"

"I'm not sure," Hoseok shrugs, that bright smile returning to his face, faded slightly from his exhaustion.

"Maybe he found out we knew where he was staying and decided to move," Jimin suggests.

"That would make sense," Luna agrees.

"But it doesn't explain his absence," Hoseok points out, "Honestly, it really looks like he's planning something, or he's been attacked,"

"What makes you say that?" Luna asks.

"Well, I broke into his apartment of course," Hoseok says confidently, "His house is trashed,"

"Seriously?" Jimin frowns, "Who would attack him?"

"I'm not sure, but they made sure that he can't get his deposit back," Hoseok chuckles.

"It's not like him to leave a space like that..." Luna frowns, "He usually makes sure it's clean,"

"Yeah, he is the sort of person to ensure that not a spec of DNA is left behind," Jimin adds.

They think in silence, their confusion mounting at the unusual behaviour. Where is he? What is he doing? Was he attacked?

Jimin makes some noodles for dinner. They eat up and go to their separate beds, still wondering about Jungkook's disappearance.

Luna lays awake, unable to even drift to sleep with everything that is going on. She has a strange feeling about all this, but she can't explain why. She's pretty sure it's just her instincts, but she can't seem to shake the feeling. After a while, she gives up on sleep, pulling out her headphones and laptop to watch a drama.

. . . . .

Jungkook:

Jungkook looks up at the apartment complex confidently. It has been a while since he has had a mission like this. To be fair, it's a personal mission. Still, he does wish that he had practised before this. That annoying lady in the complex would have been a good test subject.

But it's too late for that. Tonight is the night.

He moves towards the front door, typing in the pin and heading inside, ensuring his mask and cap are covering his face completely as he adjusts his gloves.

He has been watching them all week. Tuesday afternoon was the day he found where she lived. All he had to do was follow her home. She really has become weak living like this. He is very skilled at following people, but she should have noticed him.

I could have changed that. But it's too late now.

It was incredibly humorous to watch Hoseok watch his house. A really interesting paradox. It took everything in him to not silently and quickly take him out. But if he had, he would have ruined his plan.

He has planned everything immaculately. He knows the pin to the building and has taken out the security camera for their floor. They haven't even noticed that the red light is no longer blinking at them. He even informed the building maintenance manager of the damage, already aware that it'll take weeks for them to replace it. He has also obtained some items to make this all a lot easier.

He heads up to the 4th floor via the stairs at the back of the building. Once he is on the correct floor, he moves towards their door. Only the night emergency lights are on, giving the hallway a gloomy appearance. Considering his plans, it's fitting.

Once he reaches the door he is looking for, he gets to work. He pries off the pin cover, cutting a very specific wire. He then cuts another wire, peeling away the wire casing to expose the live wires. He twists this wire around a cord connected to a device. A few clicks later, the electronic door handle flashes and turns off, a muffled clicking sound alerting him of his success. He tugs the device from the door handle and opens the door, silently sliding into the dark house.

Most of these apartments have identical lay outs. The difference is dependent on the number of rooms. He inspected a 3-bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor yesterday, which gave him everything he needed to navigate this area.

He moves slowly into the living area, moving directly towards the hallway.

CLICK.

Jungkook freezes, immediately recognising the sound of a gun being loaded. He turns his head in the direction of the sound, smirking slightly. He notices a shape standing near the kitchen bench, their arms away from their body.

"Who are you?" The voice asks firmly. He instantly recognises it as Hoseok's voice.

"Jung Hoseok?" Jungkook murmurs, deepening his voice.

"I said," Jungkook hears him click the safety off, "Who are you?"

Jungkook smirks, taking in his environment. There is a sofa between them, with a small table behind him. To Hoseok's right looks like a dining table.

"Are you really going to fire that in here?" Jungkook asks, looking around for a way to reach him before he unloads the entire clip into him.

"Not if I don't have to," Hoseok murmurs, slowly moving closer to him, "You must be Jungkook,"

"It's nice to finally meet you," Jungkook grins.

Quickly, he drops to the floor, grabbing a cushion and throwing it at him. Hoseok hits it away, rushing towards the sofa. Jungkook leaps towards him as he reaches the sofa, shoving him to the ground. He stands over him, kicking the discarded gun as Hoseok rolls onto his back. Before Hoseok can react, Jungkook staddles him, placing a hand over his mouth. He pins both of Hoseok's hands under his knees, causing Hoseok to let out a quiet groan. He's not as strong as other Reaper members he's met.

"Shh," Jungkook whispers, "We don't want to wake anyone, do we?"

Hoseok doesn't respond, muffled or not. He just watches Jungkook angrily, his eyes narrowed slits of rage. Jungkook pulls out a knife, holding it to Hoseok's throat. Hoseok's eyes widen slightly at the sight of the blade, glinting in the light filtering in from a nearby window.

"Don't worry," Jungkook chuckles, "I like to play with my food. Faith is my target. I will kill you in front of her, okay?"

Hoseok starts to protest, struggling under Jungkook's weight. Growing bored, Jungkook hits Hoseok's head with the handle of the knife, knocking him out instantly.

For insurance, he flips him over and cuffs his wrists, pushing his head roughly as he stands again. He remains still for a moment, listening for any sign of life, but he hears nothing.

Grinning maniacally, the bubbling blood thirsty beast inside him writhing with excitement, he moves towards the hallway.

He peeks into the first room and finds it empty. Instantly, he realises this must be Hoseok's room, based on the decorations and pictures. He moves to the next door, listening intently.

Suddenly, the door swings outwards, hard and fast. It hits him, pushing him into the wall. A figure leaps out of the room, fists raised with murderous intent. It's Jimin.

Jungkook takes the hit, surprised by the power behind it. Jimin pulls back to hit again, but Jungkook slides out of the way. He lunges forward, pushing Jimin into the wall. They struggle silently like this for a moment, Jimin pushing against him. Jimin takes in a deep breathe, so Jungkook pulls away, bringing his hand to cover his mouth. Jimin struggles against him, trying to bang on the wall. Quickly, Jungkook twists to the side, bringing Jimin with him as they fall to the floor.

They writhe like this for a moment, but Jungkook easily overpowers him. He pulls the knife out again and brings it around, lightly slashing the skin on Jimin's chest. He lets out a muffled sound, thrashing around as Jungkook kneels over him. He brings his knee up, pushing it into Jimin's chest. He stops moving as much, glaring up at Jungkook.

"Pity I didn't cut deeper," He murmurs, moving his fingers so he is covering his nose as well. Jimin starts to panic, pushing at Jungkook's hand more forcefully. Jungkook pushes harder on his chest, watching his movements become slower and slower. Finally, he passes out.

Just like with Hoseok, Jungkook cuffs him. He drags him back into his room, gentling closing the door.

Surely, she would have heard all that. He might have been trying to keep him quiet, but he was thumping around a lot.

He moves to the last bedroom door slowly, listening for any movement. It is eerily silent in her room. He slowly turns the doorknob and pauses. But still, nothing. He pushes the door open, peeking into the space. He can see a shape on the bed under the blanket, but he is not convinced. He peers around the door and into every corner of the room. Then, he notices her foot sticking out the bottom of the blanket.

She really slept through all that?

Jungkook smirks, moving towards the bed slowly. Once he is close enough, he slides the knife out of his belt again. He's not going to kill her in her bed – that's too cowardly. He is going to torture her slowly in the living room, killing her friends in front of her, waiting for her to beg for her life. Maybe, just for fun, he might go grab Taehyung and chuck him into the mix.

THUMP.

Jungkook is winded, pushed harshly into her cupboard, hitting his back and head hard. He shakes his head, trying to pull from the dizzying blackness at the edge of his vision. He looks at the bed, only to find her squatting, glaring at him with her leg extended.

I knew she wasn't asleep.

He lunges forward, ignoring the pain in his back. She slides to the side, so he falls onto the bed. He rolls away from her just in time to miss another blow to his back. He stands, watching her move off of the bed. In this position, she is cornered. His back is facing the door, where-as hers is facing the wall.

"Did you kill them?" She asks seriously, her eyes darting around nervously.

"I might have," He shrugs, "Can a knife to the head kill you? If yes, then yeah. I did,"

She yells, leaping forward to push him to the ground. Startled by her sudden attack, he falls. She straddles him, throwing punch after punch at him. He holds his arms in front of his face. She of all people should know that you can't get emotional in a fight. It leaves weaknesses exposed.

He grabs her hands, halting her assault. His forearms are struggling to support his wrists, the pain from her attack travelling up his arms.

He thrusts his hips upwards, forcing her to fall forward. He takes this opportunity to continue her momentum into the wall, hitting her head against it. She groans in pain but takes full advantage of the sudden position. She pulls her leg back, bringing her knee towards his chest. He manages to absorb some of the hit with his hand, but it still winds him. She rolls to the side, pulling out of his grip.

He rolls over, squatting in front of her. She brings herself to her feet, a trickle of blood sliding down her face like a demonic tear.

He smirks at his handwork before lunging forward. She shoves his shoulders, redirecting him into the corner of the cupboard. His head hits the firm timber, hard. The dizzying sensation returns, but he can't shake it away this time. He blacks out.

. . . . .

Luna:

Jungkook slumps forward in the seat, his head hanging. A drop of blood drips from his face, landing on the floor between his legs. They have him tied to one of the dining chairs. He could easily get out of the knots, but the aim isn't to restrain him. It's to hold him in place for a moment.

Jimin and Hoseok are standing nearby, giving Jungkook's unconscious form looks of hatred and disgust. Jimin is sitting on a stool behind Jungkook's seat, while Hoseok is sitting on a dining chair to Jungkook's right. Luna is standing in front of him, arms folded as she waits for him to wake.

His head moves from side to side, as if he's trying to shake the disorientation away. His head slowly lifts, looking directly at Luna.

He looks like a mess. Not just because of Luna's attack, but also because of Jimin and Hoseok's way of detaining him. She didn't exactly stop them from roughing him up in the process. He has a busted lip and a couple of bruises blooming on his skin. Even in this state, he smirks.

"Hello, beautiful," He murmurs before spitting some blood onto the floor, "Strange seeing you here,"

"In my house, you mean?" Luna cocks her eyebrow.

"Eh, details, details," He mumbles dismissively, "Why'd you bother tying me up?"

"Just to have a quick conversation," Luna says, "You've obviously lost this one. I may be out of the game, but I'm not stupid,"

"I don't know, that bruise on your head says otherwise," He chuckles.

Suddenly, Jungkook's head whips forward as Jimin smacks the back of his head.

"Shut up," Jimin snaps.

Chuckling, he lifts his head again, ignoring Jimin's words.

"So, what's the plan here?" He asks, "Kill me?"

"I'm considering it," Hoseok murmurs, fiddling with his gun.

"No," Luna sighs, "You're not worth the mess,"

Jungkook nods a little, still smiling like this is all hilarious. But she knows him all too well. There is pain and hurt in his eyes.

"This is your only warning," Luna squats in front of him, "Leave and never come back,"

"Why would I do that?" Jungkook retorts.

"Because I know you value your life at least," She smirks, "If you return, I will kill you,"

Hoseok sighs loudly, grabbing Luna's attention.

"I don't usually give warnings," Hoseok mutters, standing up. He dawdles closer to Jungkook, lifting the gun and pressing it firmly against the side of his head. Jungkook turns his gaze to him, no fear or tension in his body at all.

"So, if Luna doesn't kill you, I will," He drops the gun, "You've strolled into my territory, remember that."

"Whatever," Jungkook rolls his eyes, returning his gaze to Luna, "Are you going to let me go now?"

"Don't act like you can't get out," Luna smirks, "Come on, get up,"

Jungkook sighs and stands up, holding the useless rope in his hands. He drops it on the ground dramatically, smirking slightly. Hoseok lifts his gun, aiming it at Jungkook as if reminding him to not try anything. Jungkook takes the hint, giving Luna one last disdainful look before storming out of the room, slamming the apartment door behind him.

"I still think we should have killed him," Hoseok grumbles, turning and walking down the hallway to his room.

"As much as I understand why... I agree with Hoseok," Jimin smiles sadly, "He's not going to stop, you know that, right?"

Luna frowns, feeling frustrated, tired and stressed.

"Yeah, I know," She rolls her eyes, "Do you know how to fix the door handle?"

"Even better," Jimin smirks, "I have a new handle in my room that I have been wanting to install,"

"Is it better?" Luna asks as he heads to his room and grabs the new handle.

"A lot better," He shows her the box, "No hacking, just a strong, sturdy handle,"

"Thank you, Jimin," Luna smiles. He sighs and pulls her in for a hug.

"Don't blame yourself for any of this, okay?" Jimin whispers, patting her back, "We knew what we were getting ourselves into, and we are ready,"

"Okay," Luna nods. He pulls away, giving her a reassuring smile before going to the front door to repair it. Luna takes this opportunity to finally go to bed, feeling restless and anxious.

(A/N) A bit of a long one, but that's okay 😁
