Chapter 10
"What's our first class of the day?" Taehyung asks, passing Luna her coffee. They begin moving through the school, leaving the cosy café behind.
"Criminology," Luna responds, "I think I have that civics class after lunch," She wrinkles her nose as Taehyung chuckles at her. He knows how much she hates that class. It's the only class she shares with Jaemi without Taehyung.
"You should've just joined the class I take," Taehyung retorts, "Then you'd learn more, and you wouldn't have to deal with her,"
"That's true," She sighs, "You better hurry over to the classroom after class ends. I can't be alone with her for too long,"
"Sure, Kitty," He grins, skipping ahead before she can react. She glowers at his back, but her expression changes back to happiness as she watches him skip around merrily, cutely grinning as he spins to look at her.
"You're lucky you're cute," She mutters to herself.
"Huh? What was that?" He asks, stopping in place so she can reach him.
"Nothing, teddy bear," She smirks.
"Yah, I'm not a teddy bear,"
"You are tall and adorable, so you're a teddy bear," Luna explains, laughing at his shocked expression.
"So, you think I'm cute?" He asks, making a V shape with his hands under his chin. She blushes and frowns, looking at him in mock disgust.
"No, you're a mushroom head," She retorts, pointing at the fluffy cap of hair on his head.
"Wow, you're so mean," He pouts.
Finally, they reach the classroom and head inside. They move to their usual seats and begin setting up their laptops.
The tone in the classroom changes as the girls standing in the row in front of them begin whispering and gasping in awe.
"Oh my god! He's so hot,"
"Is he really joining this class?"
"God damn, he is broad!"
"I just want to..."
She frowns, ignoring the grotesquely sexual comments as she looks around, trying to find who they are talking about.
Do we have a substitute teacher today?
Usually, if the teacher can't attend, then there is no class. So, it can't be a substitute teacher. What's going on?
She peers over the standing girls in front of her, trying to get a glimpse of the new student at the teacher's podium. Their professor is talking to a tall young man, the back of his head awfully familiar. He turns and begins looking around, his dark eyes scanning the room like a predator looking for his prey. His black hair is combed back, exposing the undercut he must have got recently. She would recognise that face anywhere.
It's Jungkook.
She drops in front of her seat, hunching behind the standing people as she panics. Why is he here, in the class, talking to the teacher?
"Luna, are you okay?" Tae asks. Luna gestures aggressively for him to be quiet. He looks around the standing girls, towards the front of the classroom, and frowns. He looks back at her, his eyes narrowed, yet emotionless.
"Is that him?" He whispers. She nods aggressively, trying to figure out a plan to get out of there. He looks back up at Jungkook, his jaw tensing as he folds his arms across his chest, leaning back. Luna watches as his eyes glide to the left, obviously following him.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, what do I do? Should I leave? Should I call Jimin?
She really should have decided on a plan for situations like this.
She calms herself as an idea slowly falls into place. Breathing deeply, she decides to just accept the situation. Surely, he won't do anything here, right?
She slides back onto her seat, concentrating on the computer with so much intensity her eyes begin to cramp. She does not look up; she does not acknowledge anything. She just simply focuses.
"Hello there," Luna's jaw tenses as Jungkook's deep voice reaches her. She feels him slide into the seat beside her, comfortably leaning back in the seat with his legs spread. She rolls her eyes, crossing her legs and shuffling to the side of her seat. She can feel his eyes on her, watching her with that playful energy radiating off him in heat waves.
"Not going to even say hello? That hurts," He simpers, chuckling darkly to himself.
Suddenly, Luna feels someone shuffle into the seat on her other side, aggressively dragging a laptop with them. She looks up to find Taehyung has taken the empty seat he usually leaves between them.
"Ready for class?" Taehyung asks, his eyes wavering slightly. He is... angry?
"Who are you?" Jungkook grumbles.
She gulps, immediately pulled back into memories of Jungkook getting jealous over every guy that looked in her direction.
"Taehyung, Kim Taehyung," Taehyung replies, looking past Luna at Jungkook, "Who are you?"
"I'm her boyfriend," He growls.
She can hear the girls in front of them gasp and whisper, spreading the new gossip between them and further.
She spins around, finally looking at Jungkook. He has gotten taller somehow, his dark hair longer than before. His eyes are still unwavering, cruel pits of darkness that engulf her. She used to find his eyes intoxicating, but all she can think of is his last words to her:
"Well, I am a man after all,"
He had glowered at her at that moment, reminding her that there is no limit to his depravity.
He is wearing a black leather jacket and tight jeans, an entirely black outfit. The most disturbing thing, however, is the laptop bag on his lap. The concept of him being a student throws her, completely jarring against his disposition.
"I'm not your girlfriend," Luna says firmly, enunciating every syllable, "What do you want?"
"What do you mean?" He asks, his eyes widening to accentuate his innocent doe eyes, "I'm just attending class,"
"Class? Here? Why?" Luna frowns. None of this is making any sense.
"I want to study..." He pauses and pulls a piece of paper out of the bag with his laptop, his eyes narrowing at the slip, "Criminology," He grins.
"Ha," She rolls her eyes, turning back to her laptop. So, his goal is to play along? Why?
"So, you're not really dating her, so why are you here?" Taehyung asks again. His voice is deadly quiet, a tone Luna has never heard him use.
"Well, neither are you, so why are you asking?" Jungkook retorts, opening his laptop.
"All right class! Let's get started!" The teacher calls out, shattering the tense atmosphere surrounding her.
She spends the rest of class ignoring both of them to prevent any more arguments. Once the class is finished, she collects her things quickly, almost as quickly as Taehyung. She begins to move in his direction to leave the row of seats, but Jungkook grabs her arm, holding her in place.
"We need to talk," he says evenly. She tugs out of his grip. Taehyung stops at the end of the row, waiting for her.
"There is nothing to talk about," She replies, attempting to move again. This time he grabs and pulls her towards him, managing to gain the upper hand. She almost bumps into his chest, but his arm stops her. He clings to her forearm with a strength that obviously tells her that she doesn't have a choice.
"Let's talk," Jungkook mutters.
"No," She replies, glaring up at him.
Before he can reply, there is a flurry of movement. She tugs from his grasp again as another hand grabs her other arm and pulls her away. She bumps into a chest and looks up. Taehyung is staring at Jungkook, his stance expressing quite clearly that he's ready for a fight.
"You heard her," He grumbles.
Jungkook opens his mouth to retort, but Taehyung instantly begins leading Luna away from him. He is quite rough with her, but she can withstand it.
She allows him to lead her away until they are near their next class. She tugs out of his grip, straightening her clothes and adjusting her bag. He stops in place, turning to look at her with his hands in his pockets and his head tilted to the side. He watches her for a moment, waiting for her to look up at him. Once she does, he sighs deeply, looking down at the ground with that dangerous frown.
"So that's your ex, huh?" He asks. She nods, trying to gauge where he is at with all this.
"His name is Jeon Jungkook," She says, "He's a jerk,"
"I see that," He chuckles.
She watches as he seems to struggle with something. He is probably annoyed that she has brought drama into his life. She would be annoyed too.
"I'm sorry," She mutters. He looks up at her, frowning deeply again.
"None of that was your fault," He says firmly, "Anyway, let's go to class," He gestures to the doorway behind him.
. . . . .
Class finishes without hassle, leaving them to head to lunch to meet up with Jimin. As soon as he spots them, he rushes over, worry engraved into his face.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asks, looking Luna up and down.
"I'm fine," Luna rolls her eyes, "I'm assuming you've heard about Jungkook?"
Jimin glances at Taehyung, taking a step back from her.
"Does he...?"
"He knows about Jungkook, yeah," Luna explains, "He helped out a bit,"
"Oh, thank you," Jimin smiles, "Might need to do that a little more,"
Taehyung nods in response, his eyes on Luna.
Jimin lifts a bag of food for them, smiling as he gestures to a more secluded table in the area. Luna nods in response and Taehyung follows along.
"So, what's his plan?" Jimin asks, digging into his food.
"I don't know," Luna replies, "It's like he's just playing along. He's joined the criminology classes,"
"Sounds like an attempt to win you back," Jimin frowns, "He really came all this way just to do that?"
"What else would he be here for?" Taehyung asks, reminding Jimin of his existence.
"Uh... I don't know," Jimin chuckles nervously, "I guess it just doesn't make sense for a guy to move countries for a girl he cheated on, you know?"
"That's fair," Taehyung nods, "He seems like a stubborn guy,"
"Oh, you have no idea," Jimin laughs. Taehyung narrows his eyes for a moment before gasping loudly, startling them.
"What the hell?" Jimin says defensively.
"You said Jimin can't possibly like you because he set you up with your first boyfriend, right?" Taehyung asks quickly, "Was Jungkook that boyfriend?"
"Yes," Luna smirks, "Jimin and Jungkook used to be friends,"
"Yeah, until he almost beat the shit out of you because he was jealous," Jimin snaps, sneering at the memory.
"I'm sorry, he did what?" Taehyung demands, looking terrified.
They blink at him before the realisation settles in. Of course, that would sound super messed up for someone who doesn't know.
Sometimes Luna forgets how little Taehyung knows.
"We... uh..." Jimin looks at Luna, his eyes pleading for her to help him fix the situation.
"We were part of a martial arts club in the US," Luna explains, "We used to spar for competitions, and Jungkook got a little rough because he thought I was cheating on him with Jimin,"
"Well, that explains why you're so strong," Taehyung comments, "Also, a bit of projection on his part, isn't it?"
"That's what I thought!" Luna exclaims. Jimin looks between them as they laugh, completely bewildered by the direction of the conversation.
Luna is just happy that Taehyung is okay and doesn't hate her. His anger, however, is confusing her. Why was he so angry at Jungkook?
Maybe he wasn't angry and that's his defensive face?
Maybe he was angry because he could see Luna was uncomfortable.
Yeah, that makes more sense.
Once they have finished lunch, and Jimin is finished giving Taehyung the rundown of Jungkook without revealing too much, they head to class.
They reach the point where they are meant to part ways and Jimin stops. He looks at Luna with concern.
"Maybe I should walk you to class,"
"It's okay, she's around the corner from my class," Taehyung informs, "She should be okay,"
Jimin bites the inside of his lip but agrees. He turns away, heading to his next class while Taehyung leads Luna to the building they have class in. They part ways, Luna looking calm and collected knowing they have her back, while Taehyung looks grim.
She enters the class, but Jungkook is nowhere to be seen. She smirks to herself, settling down to focus on her work. He might have been delegated the same subjects with different professors.
She focuses on her work, ignoring Jaemi's quiet remarks about Luna's apparent sex life. Once the class is finished, she rushes out of the room, already scanning the sea of students for Taehyung.
"Come on Tae, where are you?" She whispers to herself.
Suddenly, she is wrenched from the crowd into a small, old classroom near the hallway Taehyung usually comes from. The door slams behind them as she stumbles over her feet, struggling to find her balance.
"YAH!" She yells, but she is instantly shoved harshly into the wall, her mouth covered with a hand. She looks at her assailant and rolls her eyes.
Of course.
Jungkook.
She cocks her eyebrow, looking down at his hand, very simply telling him to let her go. He removes his hand but doesn't move away. He is about an inch away from her, leaning on his elbow against the wall behind her. He smells the same as he did before, the intoxicating scent of natural musk and jasmine. She used to love this smell, but now it makes her nauseous.
She folds her arms, forcing some distance between them, but he still doesn't relent or step away. His chest is still firm from the years of training they have done, but that doesn't bring her comfort like it used to. He is smirking at her, the sort of smile that used to make her melt, but now makes her uncomfortable.
It's crazy how the simple act of removing rose-tinted glasses can change your perspective of someone so dramatically.
"Hey, baby," He murmurs seductively, leaning against her folded arms, "It's been a while,"
"What do you want, Jungkook?" She snaps.
I'm not playing your stupid games.
"Just wanted to have a conversation," He chuckles, "And pass on a message,"
"What's the message?" She pushes his chest a little, hoping he'll move away. But he stands firm, almost putting his weight onto her.
"RM is looking for you," He sneers, "And he's not happy,"
"I don't care," Luna replies, "You can tell him to come find me, and I'll be waiting,"
"Well, that's why he sent me," Jungkook tilts his head, trying and failing to appear innocent, "He wants me to persuade you,"
"Well, that was a stupid idea on his part," Luna smirks, "Because I'd rather die than go back with you,"
"Ouch, my ego," He chuckles, stepping away enough to clutch his chest dramatically.
"If that's all, I'm leaving," Luna tries to slide past, but he pulls her back into place, that intense darkness flashing across his expression. He's starting to get annoyed with her.
"Where do you think you're going, baby?" He mutters, leaning in closer as he holds her in place by her shoulders, "I'm not done with you yet,"
Instantly, there is a lot of noise all at once. Luna smirks and pushes Jungkook hard in the chest, forcing him to loudly stumble into a pile of desks nearby. He lands in them, grimacing at the hard timber under him. At the same time, the door to the classroom bursts open, revealing Taehyung, illuminated in the doorway.
They all look at each other, all of them confused about the situation in their own way.
Taehyung is the first to move, storming over to Luna and grabbing her wrist.
"Let's go," he says quietly, leading her from the room.
"YAH! Where are you going?" Jungkook yells. They hear what sounds like him attempting to pull himself from the wreckage, only to slide deeper into the pile.
She lets Taehyung lead him away, out of the building and nearly to the next building for class. Here, Luna pulls from his grip again, almost tugging him into her. He stumbles for a moment before gaining his balance, looking up at her coldly.
"You don't like being dragged places, huh?" He mutters.
"Not particularly," She chuckles, "Thank you,"
"For what?" He snaps suddenly, his expression shifting.
"For... helping me back there," She gestures at the other building, unsure why he's suddenly upset with her.
"It didn't look like you needed help," He grumbles, straightening up and folding his arms.
"Yeah, I really did," Luna cocks her eyebrow, "What's your problem? I was the one cornered,"
"Don't give me that," Taehyung says firmly, pointing at her, "It looked like you were really enjoying it,"
"Enjoying what?" She frowns, "His threats?"
"His closeness," He spits, his expression contorting in disgust for a moment.
"He had me pinned... threatening me," Luna explains, "That's what you walked in on,"
"That's not what it looked like," He scoffs, turning so he's no longer facing her, "You were grinning when I entered. It looked like you were pushing him away because I entered,"
"Huh?" She thinks back to the chaotic situation. She did smirk before she pushed Jungkook, but only because she knew it would hurt his ego to know she is still just as strong as she was. She laughs as the situation starts to feel more and more absurd.
"I smirked because he hates that I'm strong," Luna explains, "I smiled because I knew pushing him was going to hurt his ego,"
Taehyung rolls his eyes, something that makes Luna's heart start to beat faster.
Now is not the time, heart!
"Sure, whatever," He mutters, "Come on, let's go to class,"
"Hold on," Luna grabs his arm, "Let's get one thing crystal clear: I don't like my crazy Ex-boyfriend, okay?"
"You don't need to explain yourself to me," He replies coldly, "Let's go,"
"Well, I feel like I need to because you're acting really jealous right now," Luna snaps back. Taehyung stops tugging from her, turning to look down at her. His eyes are making her heartbeat faster, but his expression has made her stomach drop. He is looking down at her with disgust.
"You think I like you?" He scoffs, "Don't make me laugh,"
He tugs from her grip, storming off and leaving her there. She watches him go, her heart paining as if his words are a literal knife sticking out of her chest. She has only just realised her feelings yesterday, but today is the day she finds out he not only doesn't reciprocate her feelings but is also disgusted at the thought of it. Her chest aches as bouts of nausea well up inside of her.
Just as she starts to feel a sob slowly making its way up her chest and into her throat, she turns it off. All of it. Every emotion; gone.
"Fuck you," She mutters, coldly turning her back on the building and leaving the university grounds, nothing but the sensation of movement felt inside her body and mind.
