Level 2- School
Monday, March 11, 2019
Lunch at Silverton High School started at 11:30 a.m. for Kylie. She would have to eat a relatively big breakfast if she did not want her stomach to growl in the middle of class.
Going to her usual table, she found her best friend, Emily Nathanson, sitting there and her boyfriend, Jack Price. Emily was a redhead with a no-nonsense attitude, the kind of friend you'd always want at your side. Jack, the school's star football player, looked menacing but ultimately had a heart of gold.
"What's up, Kylie?" asked Emily.
"Not much," Kylie answered.
"Yeah, what's up, Kylie?! See any ghosts today?!" Ryan McCormick asked mockingly. Ryan and his other cronies laughed along with him. Kylie ignored the group from across the table. Ryan used to be one of the most popular kids in school, but he became filled with jealousy ever since Kylie got all the attention from what happened last year.
"God, what an asshole," said Emily. "Does he not know what you've been through?"
"If he did, he'd shit himself," Kylie answered with a laugh. Sometimes she had to find a little humor in situations like this.
"Hey, what's so funny? Why don't you answer me, Kylie?" Ryan demanded.
The three ignored him.
"I said, what's so fucking funny?!"
They still ignored him. Ryan gave up after that.
"Looks like he quit. His little dick energy wore off," Jack said.
"It always does," observed Emily. Then she asked, "Hey, are you doing anything this weekend?"
"No, why?" answered Kylie.
"Want to go see Five Feet Apart?" offered Emily.
"That sounds like fun. I'll let my parents know. What time?" inquired Kylie.
"6 p.m., Friday." Emily then turned to Jack and asked, "You're coming too, right Jack?"
Jack answered with a smile, "Anything for you, Em."
At that point, the bell rang.
"Well, I gotta go. See you two soon!" Kylie said. Maybe for once, Kylie could do something that did not involve painful memories.
