Raven stared up at the stars above her. It had been eleven seasons since that fateful day, when she had lost all she'd known. Raven had learned to live on the island, alone. Tomorrow, however, everything was going to change. Raven had not wasted these twelve seasons, she had learned to hunt and swim. Now she was going to use those skills to find her family.
          
              The next morning, Raven stepped out of her nest under a bush, and faced the dawn of a new day. It was greenleaf, and tube lake was warm enough to swim across. It would be a long way, but Raven had the thought of her family to sustain her. Raven caught a thrush and ate it before she set off towards the shore.
            
Raven stood in the cool refreshing water of the lake. She didn't like swimming much, but she knew she had to, if she wanted to see her family again. Raven took a deep slow breath, a d plunged deeper in to the lake. Water swirled around her as she struck out firmly towards the shore of the lake. Before she had left, Raven had searched out the mouth of the stream, and it was that she swam towards. The water hardly had a current, and at first she swam with ease, but as she neared the shore, her paws grew heavy with tiredness. At one point her paw snagged painfully on a fallen tree. She was close, to the shore now, and the water was muddier. Her paws sunk in the marshy muck as she hauled herself out onto a grassy shore. Raven flopped onto the ground, panting. She had made it.
