Chapter 3: Meeting the Moonfall's
Ally
"I have to go and get some supplies for myself. I'll meet you two later." Jason then walks off taking out a sheet of paper from his pocket. I wonder how much is different between our letters but shake it off as I'm just so excited. I can't wait to explore!
I look around in awe as daddy leads me towards a bookshop. Some shops that catch my eye are a small one with brooms on display for those with the ability to fly on them, one with animals on display for magic pets, and another for repairing and replacing wands.
Wands are created specifically for their person and have a mind of their own. Witches and wizards don't choose their wands but rather their wands choose them. It was such a wonderful thing to have that wand for all your life. Momma still has his even though he can't use it. Someone with a magic hand can't use their wand but they keep it close anyway since it was so special to them.
"This is where we buy your school books. The school will have you buy more materials as the years go on. It all depends on what you're best at and what your teacher requests for you." Daddy explains and holds my hand firmly. "Maybe you'll be a great healer like your momma. I was better with offensive magic than anything else..." He grins sheepishly and rubs the back of his neck.
I giggle. Daddy was a bit hotheaded and quick to anger and fight. I hope I don't turn out like that at school! I want to make as many school friends as possible.
We enter the bookstore and it's packed with people of all ages. I look around and spot an older man with red hair and odd-looking purple eyes. It's really strange but he has a regal air about him and was very handsome like my daddy. I must have been staring because he soon catches my gaze and offers a warm smile.
Daddy notices my stare as well. "It's not polite to stare kiddo." I feel my face flush but daddy waves to the man. "Hey there, James! It's been a long time." James chuckles and nods. "That it has old friends. This must be the famous Alyssa I've been hearing about huh? Nice to meet you dear."
I nod and smile back my face feeling hot. "Yeah! You know my daddy?" James nods. "Oh yes, we go way back. We went to Raven's together though he was my junior and always got into so much trouble." Amusement gleams in those strange but pretty purple eyes which makes daddy scowl. "Oh, you'll never let that go..." I giggle as daddy pouts. James looks up when another man calls out to him from afar. "Looks like Neil got everything on my list. Have a great rest of your outing Alyssa." He winks and walks off. The way he says my name makes me giggle. He was such a nice man and I hope to see him again one day.
Daddy shakes his head and chuckles. "Seeing James brings back so many memories..." he looks so boyish with that grin on his face. I can't help but giggle at my silly and goofy daddy. He then snapped out of it because it was our turn.
I walk up with my daddy and look at the lady in excitement. She's short and round with a plump face but a friendly grin. "Hey there princess. I'm guessing your first year. I know exactly what you need, hold on." She says and goes into the back to get my books.
I look around and feel a sudden unease. The loud chaos in the bookstore suddenly goes completely silent and the air feels cold. I turn my head and freeze. A tall man was standing in the doorway wearing all black including a pointy black hat. His hair was dark brown, nearly black and his eyes made me shudder because they were just so black and dead-looking. He was a dark magic user for sure.
On both sides of him were two boys. The one on his left was just as dark as him. He looks like a big bully too with big arms and a dark scowl on his face as he observes everyone like we are all nothing more than bugs that he was going to squish under his feet. He had dark brown hair just like the tall man he was next to and dark green eyes. They were probably father and son and he was much older than I was.
However, the boy on his right was so small. The moment anyone's eyes fall on him his face pales. He looks terrified and like he wants to go off and hide from the world. He looks to be my age and his eyes are so well so eye-catching. They were mismatched, one blue and the other green. He has muddy black hair that doesn't seem to suit him at all. He tries to hold onto the tall man's cape but flinches away when he shoots him a cold glare.
Daddy watches the newcomers and pulls me closer. "The Moonfall's..." he mutters under his breath and I feel my eyes widen. The Moonfall's were a well-known strictly evil family. I didn't realize that I would meet any of them! That means the tall man was probably Silas, the head of the family.
Silas walks over to the front desk where we are waiting for my books and calls the lady. "Trisha! Get me Simon's fourth-year books and a set of first-year books!" I frown at the man. He was cutting the line! How rude would someone be?
I look at the shy boy and wave. He looks over to him and offers the weakest smile I've ever seen. "Samson, ignore them! The Rose's are just pathetic and disgusting bugs." Samson tenses and looks away tears forming in his eyes. He looks ready to just cry which surprises me. Was he that shy? Was being around all these people making him so scared?
Daddy glares at him. "Excuse me?" He asks lowly and clenches his fist. He looks ready to punch him in his smug stupid face.
Silas looks at daddy and smirks. "It's the truth. Two men shouldn't be together nor should they be able to produce children whether one is a freak or not. It's disgusting." He says in a matter-of-fact tone.
I frown. There was nothing wrong with my family. So what if my parents were both guys? They were meant to be together and that was that! I glare at him. "Take that back! You're nothing but a big bully anyway!" I snap before I can stop myself.
Silas looks down at me and gives me a look that sends chills down my spine. I have never felt so small before in my entire life. "Control your child, Rose. Otherwise, I fear something bad might happen to her one day." He said a silent, but obvious threat was in his voice.
Samson winces. "F-father please... please don't cause a scene..." he whispers faintly. His voice was so soft and fearful. He then flinches and falls on his rump when Silas slaps him. I gasp and hold my cheek with a wince. The noise had been so loud that even I could imagine the pain and heat coming off of it.
"Do NOT talk back to me and tell me what to do. So I make myself clear?" Silas asks in a dark, frozen cold voice. Samson whimpers softly and nods slowly as he gets back on his feet. His pale cheek was red and already bruising. He then cries out as he is grabbed by the hair and reaches for his father's hand. "I didn't hear you..." Silas glares at him and yanks on his hair.
Samson starts to cry from the pain. "Yes, Father yes! Very clear! I will never do it again! Father please!" He struggles with his hand and I feel my head start to hurt badly but I'm too frozen to even react. How could someone be so cruel to their kid?
Silas soon lets him go and watches his little son with a sneer as he continues to cry. "You're pathetic. Stop crying and suck it up!"
Daddy snaps out of his trace as he has been just as horrified with his actions towards his son as everyone else including Trisha who had come out with three stacks of books on a cart and was now watching her mouth gaping. "Don't treat your son like that are you mad?! He's just a boy!"
Silas looks at daddy with a dismissive stare. "Don't tell me how to raise my children." He puts some paper on the desk and takes the books. "Let's go. Simon make sure the brat doesn't get lost." He glares at Samson who is still sniffing and shaking. His cheek was now completely bruised and he looked like he had a headache now
Simon smirks and looks at his little brother. "Come on. Don't get lost or you might get left with the sewer rats." He crows at Samson mockingly who tenses and starts to shake violently like a leaf like he believes the threat.
With that, as fast as they appeared in the store, they were gone just as fast. Immediately the store is chaos once more but differently. I was horrified by what I had just witnessed. What kind of parent does that to their child, evil or not? Poor little Samson looks like a sweet boy... but maybe that's why he seems like an outcast in his own family. He was a nice, sweet child surrounded by pure evil.
I shake my head and frown at the deep ache in my head and on my cheek. I touched my head but there was nothing different. So why did it hurt so much? I had a headache now and I didn't know why.
I try to shake the feeling, but Samson keeps popping into my head even as I take half of my books and daddy takes me around town. Even when we meet up with Jason for lunch and daddy gets me dessert, his image keeps popping into my head. I hope we can be friends when we go to Raven's together. Who knows! Maybe we'll be in the same class together even if he's a Moonfall kid!
