Steps To Trust

Kira's P.O.V

To my dismay, Friday didn't take long to come No matter how much I prayed for otherwise. You know the type of feeling you get right inside your stomach when you're nervous, yes?

Multiply that by 100 and that will be the exact feeling I felt waking up this Friday morning. I just couldn't shake off that feeling. I even told Shane about it but, he swiftly shrugged it off because he was itching to show off his "girlfriend" to everyone at the party.

Wednesday at lunch Shane told me he was going to ask Lacey out in front of everyone to prove that he didn't care about his image or her label.

Thus, he decided to stand up on our table that located in the middle of the canteen and ask Lacey out. The poor girl was completely shocked out of her mind and her skin mimicked the ghost of Casper's color.

"Look at Vera..." Maya nudged me with her elbow.

Vera looked like a furious bull ready to pounce on Lacey any minute, it also didn't help that Shane was waving a red rose right in front of her face.

"I have this feeling Friday is gonna be a dis-as-ter." I frowned towards Maya.

"Oh, I can't come on Friday because my parents are going out of town and I have to look after my little brother." Maya said before she bit into her burger.

"It's fine, I wish I had an excuse like that... but NOOO, Kira always has to get dragged into everything." Talking in the third person was one of Devon's specialties which I quickly got infected by.

"Go with Caleb" Maya's face was as serious as a snake.

"You're not joking, are you?" I leaned forward to get a better view of her face.

"No, I mean that boy's been staring at you when no one's looking." I quickly snapped my head in the direction that she was staring at. She was right, whenever he was being distracted by a bimbo, his eyes found mine and he would quickly look away. "You should let him in, he seems different."

"Different as in what? One eye, 2 noses and 3 ears?" I raised my eyebrows while squinting at her. "All boys are the same when a situation gets tough; they always run the other way... I mean look at Shane..." I pointed in his direction only to find him sucking Lacey's face off.

"When things got tough with Saira, he ran to her." I tried not to sound bitter but I didn't approve of his actions and how he dealt with the situation when Saira decided to have their baby. He knew exactly why I didn't approve of it but, he still refused to be a part of his daughter's life.

"Is Saira okay with it?" Maya inquired.

"She tries to pretend that she is but, I know that she still loves him."

"I heard she hooked up with Brody?" Maya looked confused.

"Yup, she did, she's just hooking up with guys now." I knew that her approach to this particular 'getting over Shane' situation was wrong and could end horribly but I understood why she's doing that. At least she's not depending on drugs to get by.

"Friends with benefit never ends in a good way" Maya rested her chin on my shoulder while looking at Saira.

I didn't say anything after that, however, our serious conversation fell under Caleb's radar.

"What happened at lunch? You and Maya looked like someone died." Caleb finally caught up with me after the 4th lesson while I was on my way to Chemistry.

"Don't you have a lesson to go to?" I kept my voice low.

"Yeah Chemistry with Mrs. Oza" I halted in my spot.

"Seriously!?" I raised my eyebrows at him.

"Yup and before you ask, HELL yeah I'm stalking you." He lips stretched across his face, revealing his pearly white teeth.

"ERGHH" I half laughed and half groaned in frustration as I gestured strangling him with both my hands.

"Anyways, stop avoiding my question." He laughed as we both picked up the pace.

"Girl talks... okay?" I smirked.

"Fine but ...you're going to the party on Friday, right?" He sighed in defeat.

"Yeah... Actually, can you drop me home today?" I asked as we both took a seat at the back of the class.

"Only if you tell me what you're planning to do with me..." He winked.

"Seriously, I really wanted to go to the place we met ... because I really liked that place but I don't really know my way there." I asked.

"Then how did you end up there." His voice was filled with concern. I didn't want anyone to know that Aunty got into a car accident because of me but my whole body protested against it.

"My mom..." I turned my head slightly to the side still keeping the intense eye contact that we created. "She was in the hospital and I kinda ran out... and ended up there." I half explained the situation.

"It's okay, you don't have to tell me anything, Kira. Don't worry and it will be an honor to take you there."

After school, I told Shane to take Lacey home, which he was more than happy to do, and he was also relieved that Caleb was the guy I decided to hang out with. Somehow that one day deal turned into a regular routine when he decided to be my chauffeur Thursday and Friday.

Our conversation topics stayed limited considering the fact I still felt somewhat awkward about this stranger/friend knowing some of my biggest secrets situation. As much as my brain scolded me to stay away from Caleb, my body physically couldn't resist his company.

He never failed to make me smile or laugh which, always kept my mind busy and away from the train of thoughts that constantly haunts me when I'm alone.

I also found out that the reason behind him moving here was because his mother was getting married to someone who he was repulsed by and decided to move in with his brother and father who he hardly visited after his parents got divorced 4 years ago. His mother got Caleb's custody whereas his father got Brody's.

Because Of Shane, when I first moved here, I had already heard of and met Brody. I wasn't the biggest fan of his attitude towards girls, however, he never ever glanced at me with lustful eyes. He always respected me and treated me like his little sister which I soon came to realize and admired him for.

Me: Pick me up at 8.

I texted Caleb as soon I got out of the shower and started getting ready for the Heisting sister's party.

Caleb: Bossy much.

Me: Ha-Ha, it starts at 9 but I don't wanna be early so we can go get something to eat.

Caleb: Are you asking me out on a date ;)

Me: If you call eating and then paying for the meal separately a date then yeah.

Caleb: lol, fine, your wish is my command.

Me: shh, getting ready now, bye.

Caleb: See ya in a bit.

I picked out a simple silk coral pink dress that ended right above my knees and tightly hugging my curved figure. The fabric from the chest area started to slant to the right, ascending up and snaking around one shoulder while leaving the other shoulder empty.

After drying my hair straight, I decided to add soft shy curls that cascaded past my hips. Then, after adding the tiniest amount of concealer to the right areas on my face, I used a light beige eyeshadow on my eyelids and added a thin winged curved line with black eyeliner topping it up with 2 coats of mascara.

If I said I hated getting all glammed up, I'd be lying because I did like it, however, I had my limits, no fake nails or lashes or bold makeup. I've always kept it simple, even in NY when every night was a party night for me with Aden.

I only had 10 minutes before Caleb got here so I quickly grabbed some nude high heels and swiped on some nude lip gloss on my lips.

"You're 3 minutes late." Were the first words that came out of my mouth when I yanked the door open before I acknowledging the person who stood on the other side.

"In my defense..." He held the back of his wrist to show me his silver tinted watch which read exactly 9 o'clock.

"Well, your watch is slow." I tucked my beige purse under my arm motioning him to move back so I could get out and close the door, but somehow my actions amused him only making him chuckle.

"You look beautiful Kira." Those words made me jerk and spin around 180 on the spot only to have my small frame stumble into his steel chest.

As I felt the ground below me slip away, a strong arm snaked its way around my back, resting his hands on the other side of my hips, pulling me up and forcing me to look into it deep dark eyes. I snapped back into reality, breaking the trance he held on me for a semi-second.

"We should get going." I placed my hand on his chest slightly pushing myself off him. He nodded lightly, allowing his eyes to search for something around my face before backing away slightly without taking his hand off my waist.

I didn't retaliate for his actions like I would have if it was anyone else. Like a gentleman, he held the passenger door open for me and waited until I was secured in my place before closing it slowly.

"You look nice too." I decided to break the piercing silence after a couple of minutes he started driving.
