The Geek and The Popular

"What'cha doin'?" I say wrapping my arms around my girlfriends waist.
She stands in the middle of a field reading her book. She always has a book with her.
"How's my little nerd?" That may sound rude but it's my way of saying, 'How's my gorgeous girlfriend?'

I feel her shift in my hold but she doesn't turn around. "I'm not a nerd Ross. I prefer Geek."

"Same difference." I say with a smug smile before placing my chin on the top of her head.

I like that I can do stuff like this. I like how I'm a head taller than her and I like how she's smart and I'm not.

My eyes travel down to the words on her page but as soon as I try to read a word I get bored. I pretend I'm reading along anyway. For her.

Many people ask me how I can date her. How our relationship can...work. But it's pretty simple.

She's Laura. And I'm Ross. She's the Geek and I'm the Popular. She brings out the best in me and I bring out the best in her.

We're honestly the most perfect couple out their.

"Ross I know you can't read along so quite pretending." There is a hint of flirt in her tone and I can't help but smile. She knows me too well.

"Ha-Ha." I say pulling away. "You love me anyway." I turn her around so we're now facing each other. There is a small smile on her lips but she still keeps her eyes focused on her book. Putting my index finger under her chin. I lift it up forcing her eyes on mine. "Eyes on the prize my nerd."

"Geek!" She corrects with a small blush. I like that I make her nervous. "What's the difference?"

She rolls her eyes and sighs. Her arms fold across her chest and I notice strands of her beautiful hair fall perfectly against her arms. They look like waterfalls blowing in the wind.

"How did I get so lucky?" I say with a chuckle and place both my hands on her waist. I pull her towards me until both our hips are touching.

"How did I get so lucky?" She questions giving me a playful wink.

"I bet you love me more than that book now don't you." I whisper and lean closer to her. I can feel her breathe on my lips and I stop the urge to kiss her.
Not now. The moment is too perfect to be ruined by a cliche kiss.

"Mm..." She says which makes my nose tingle. "Not quite. But you're a close second." I feel her quickly pull away and shrieks of laughter fill my ears.

"I'm sorry. Did you just say you love the book more than me??" My eyes are wide. And my eyebrows are high. I feel my brows furrow as I scrunch my nose in confusion.

"More than I!!" She corrects, as I grab her wrists in my hands and attempt to tickle her.

"Well aren't you just the nerd-"

"Geek!!!" She yells loudly. "Geek Ross!"

"Same difference!" I yell back with a grin. "Now do you love me more than the book. Yes or No? There's only one right answer." I have her locked in my hold so she can't go anywhere. It's moments like this I'll really miss, when she goes off to a top-notch University, and I end up in a community college without her.

She scrunches her nose the way she does when she's thinking hard and I'm too mesmerized by her beauty to even notice she has somehow slipped out of my grip. "Catch me and I'll tell you!" She shrieks and runs away.

"I'll get you!!!"

We chase each other all around the field until we both collapse on the grass exhausted.

"You're fast for a nerd." I say breathlessly.

"I'm too tired to correct you-" she puffs out cutely.

"I caught you. Do I get my answer now?" I turn my head to face hers on the grass and smile when I notice her expression.

She looks to the blue sky then to my red face and the smile on her lips turns into a grin.

Her lips purse before opening. "I... Do love you more than my book."

"I knew it!" I yell happily. "I knew I was better than some book! Ha! Point for the jock. Zero for the nerd!"

"Greek!!" She yells hitting me lightly on the shoulder. I pretend it hurt and fake an 'ow' just to get a laugh or two out of her. It's always worth it if she smiles or laughs.

"Whatever. You still love me."

"I do." She says with a chuckle, before I turn over to my side and place my hands on the grass to help get up on my feet. I thrust an arm down to Laura automatically pulling her up. It doesn't matter if she doesn't need the help. I'll always be their to help her.
She wipes the invisible dirt off her jeans and takes my hand in hers. I feel her small hands wrap around my large ones and I can't help but bring it to my lips and peck it lightly. I like how her hands are smaller than mine. Makes me feel like I Can protect her.

The wind blows strands of her hair onto her face and I laugh. She makes an over exaggerated gagging noise which I personally think is really cute.

"C'mon Nerd. Let's get you home."

"Geek!!" She whines and places her arm around my waist.

"Whatever. You still love me."
