Let's start with Cleril. 

So it's a bit unclear on how Clay feels about Peril, he never gave affirmations or signs of affection to Peril or the idea that she has a crush on him. 

He is unsure at the moment, though he might be leaning towards liking her, but Peril has definitely given an affirmation on whether she likes him or not. In her book, and on other books, she is quick to aid Clay,  when in the Darkness Of Dragons, the Icewings attacked JMA, Clay was injured, and Peril immediately got angry and yelled. 

Clay has also been quick to jump to Peril's defence, and stands up for her when no one else would, except Sunny of course. 

In Moon Rising, Clay gave some hint that he liked her by saying that Peril should stay at the Academy and even touched talons and other affectionate looks.

Their chemistry: 

So Peril is a somewhat slightly crazy dragon who is afraid of herself and insecure. Clay is a nice and happy and carefree dragons who is freindly to everyone, though he is also a bit insecure about himself in the mountain. 

So Clay helps Peril to be a better dragon and be nicer and not burn other dragons, he also helps her with her insecureness. 

So how does Peril help Clay? 

Does she make him feel better about himself? Perhaps Peril helps Clay develop a better character who is caring and supportive, understanding, kind, and sympathetic. And maybe helps him focus less in food. 🥘 :)

Overall, Clay is really good for Peril, and helps her slowly to become a better dragon, and Peril helps Clay develop better characteristics. I think Peril needs to help Clay a bit more to make this ship good, cuz so fa it's Peril fangirling over Clay and Clay being slightly oblivious.
