My thought process is: James Reynolds most likely forced Maria into this situation against her will and that is not the recipe for a good romantic story. Hamilton and Maria isn't something I like. I get why it exists and all but I don't think Maria is that into him. If anything she is just glad when she's with him her husband can't beat her. This relationship is just a mess.
