Ringo Starr - RINGO
(Not his debut album, weirdly enough, it feels like one though.)
I'm The Greatest. Written by John Lennon, it's a fine song. Don't love it, but it's fun live. Also works for Ringo rather than John, because almost everyone loves Ringo. Good harmonies. 7/10
Have You Seen My Baby. A dose of rock and roll, I suppose. More upbeat in the rhythm. The lyrics are somewhat down, despite its catchy, happy tune. 8/10
Photograph. Beautiful song, with sad undertones, because it's got that George Harrison complexity in it. Love the lyrics, and the melody, especially the bridges -- "I thought I'd make it the day you went away.." and "now you're expecting me to live without you.." Lovely. 10/10
Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond). Twangy country guitar. Kind of a sailor sounding song, not just because of the verse about the sea. Again with George's hinting of sadness, "it's a sunshine life for me/if I could get away from this cloud over me.." It's good. Silly. 7/10
You're Sixteen. Very catchy chords. Easy to sing words. What is really entertaining, though, is Paul McCartney's "mouth sax" solo - the kazoo like sounds. That's Paul. 7/10
Oh My My. Funny words.. Tends to get stuck in my head for quite a while. More saxophone, just like some of the other songs. Big energy. 6/10
Step Lightly. Not bad for Ringo writing this by himself, it's a little bluesy, a little jazzy, and he tap dances as well, which is also pretty good for someone who didn't know how. 6/10
Six O' Clock. My favourite on the album. Arguably the best song on it. Paul wrote it, which explains the very pop melody and slightly cheesy but lovable lyrics. Such as, "it could be the comfort going to my head/that makes me wanna dream of you.." I love it. Has a fantastic synthesizer solo (weird thing to say) because it's in perfect harmony. 10/10
Devil Woman. A little too fast. He's kind of talking the lyrics, and they're not great, intelligence wise. He references Sexy Sadie. 3/10
You And Me Babe. A little old-fashioned, but it's a lot better than Devil Woman. Also pretty catchy, and Ringo gets a bit silly at the end when he starts to talk about whatever. 7/10
Early 1970*. This is just cute. And fun. He sings about Paul and his family first, then John and Yoko, and George and Olivia, then finally himself - in a silly way. "I play guitar -- A, D, E/I don't play bass 'cos that's too hard for me/I play the piano if it's in C." 9/10
It Don't Come Easy*. Also gets in your head, got some fun words in there.. A message of peace, just like he still sings about now. It's pretty good. 6/10
Down And Out*. A bluesy cover, not very interesting, but it works on the album. Not very memorable. 4/10
