Queen - News Of The World

(This is one of my all-time favorite albums. Especially from Queen. I really love this one. It's holding back on some over-the-top stuff they usually do, but still great. An album I know very well, all the words, tunes and order of songs.)

We Will Rock You: everyone, pretty much everyone—even babies—know this song. It's one that the whole world has heard. Very simple. No drums on the studio version - funny how some drummers start out playing it. The solo is good -- unusual being at the end, not middle. 5/10

We Are The Champions: also very well-known. And paired often with the first track. It has a lot of piano chords, but what can you expect? It's Freddie. I like the "on and on and on" building up. Better live, in my opinion. 6/10

Sheer Heart Attack: their one and only punk song, probably to stay relevant. But it's good punk, as Roger said. A mix of Freddie and Roger's vocals so closely you can't really distinguish them? Very fast, better live. The feedback can be a bit much. 5/10

All Dead, All Dead: a truly beautiful song about grief and acceptance of it. I love Brian's vocals and piano on this, the drums are only in the chorus, very simply. Perfection. The solo is mimicking pipe organs - by guitar orchestration. I love the line "but please you must forgive me, I am old but still a child." 10/10

Spread Your Wings: I always hear this in my head right after track four, it goes in order nicely (so does the whole album). Great storytelling song, good chords; a rather McCartney-esque progression. A little boring sometimes. 8/10

Fight From The Inside: Roger has the perfect voice for this rough-sounding song. It's aggressive without being too hard, it has a message to say. His songwriter skills are improving. 7/10

Get Down, Make Love: experimental music, similar to Led Zeppelin songs. The style of singing is, mostly. I don't particularly love it. 6/10

Sleeping On The Sidewalk: typical blues, rags-to-riches-to-rags story. Interesting how he flipped the story. Brian sounds more American in this. Good chorus, very catchy. 8/10

Who Needs You: a good example of a pop song. I love the Latin sound to it. And I really love the double Spanish-style guitar solo. It's very happy sounding, except it's about not needing that person and is better off without them story. Good plot. Love the maracas. 9/10

It's Late: Brian was following a different type of pattern in the story. This whole album is very storytelling heavy, but I love those types of songs. Harder rock, especially at the end. Interesting chords. 8/10

My Melancholy Blues: beautiful jazzy sounding song. It's pleasant, and mellow, nice to hear after Brian's hard-rocker before. Great piano, great melody. Over dramatically blue, but in the best way. Love when Brian does a guitar solo live on it; the guitar sounds like it's crying out. 10/10
