Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
(I'm not very into the band very much, though they are good, technically. And it's hard to write all your own lyrics and melodies. But there are some songs I like.)
Bridge Burning: I don't like the intro noises. good guitar and drums. the vocals and harmonies are solid. Interesting melody on the chorus. A fast hard-rocker. But repetitive. 5/10
Rope: interesting first thirty seconds. It's almost disco rhythm. With some of harder rock riffs in it. Great drums. Also almost irregular beat. I like it. Very screaming guitar solo. At the end, it repeats the intro riff. 7/10
Dear Rosemary: good beginning. Some wordplay in it with the "you got away/you got a way with things". Interesting chords. Almost Panic! At The Disco vibes. Intense vocals. But I like the guitar singing the same tune as the vocals. Ending cuts short. 6/10
White Limo: very metal, immediately. This is not my style of music that I prefer. Hard rock is one thing, screaming so much and so loudly that it's unintelligible is another. A lot of noise. I don't really like it. 3/10
Arlandria: A nicer melody than the others so far. It's got some screaming, but it's a lot easier to listen to compared to the last song. "Fame, fame/Shame, shame, go away, come again another day" is a interesting twist on the nursery rhyme. 7/10
These Days: gentle in the start. The tune throughout, for example, "one of these days, the ground will drop" sounds like Amazing Grace. It sounds like a commentary on human society. It gets more rock. It's nice, some lines are peaceful and hopeful. Then the story changes perspective a little. 8/10
Back & Forth: it starts with more of a metal riff. It's got some wordplay, and imagery ("rolling like an earthquake") it's a little more pop-rock. Sounds nice. Nice harmonies, even in the guitar solo. I like the kind of 'dip' he does when he sings "ne-r-r-rve." 9/10
A Matter Of Time: not too bad. Good chords, especially when they're descending. There's probably a diminished chord or note somewhere it sounds like. Again, playing with words, but in the right way that makes it stick. At 3:15 — 3:40, it reminds me of Brian May's song "Ressurection." 8/10
Miss The Misery: the ending segues into this song well. It has some emotional words in it, sounding angry and regretful. Also heavy rock, almost metal. Droning guitar. Not the worst, though. Near the end, the riff sounds similar to "Cold Turkey." By John Lennon. 7/10
I Should Have Known: intro is older sounding, like from the seventies. Slower than all the other tracks, but that's not bad. Then it speeds up/gets heavier. It's mostly in a minor key, which makes it spooky. I like the chord changes. Features a Mellotron? 9/10
Walk: I don't know how I feel about this. Another slow and light intro, but then it kicks in again. Typical chord changes. Kinda early two-thousands, like MCR. I don't think I like it. He screams a lot too in this. But it has good drums, of course. 4/10
