Two
When Louis woke up he groaned at the horrible pounding in the back of his head. He cracked his eyes open after a moment, squinting for a couple of seconds from the bright light.
His eyes widened in fear when seeing various bulky men guarding the door. He went to move his hands, but they were strapped down by the chair. So, like any other sane person, he did the first thing he could think of.
Panic.
He tried pulling on his wrists and his feet as well, jerking up. "Who are you?!" He thrashed, but when three shards of knives shot out from the chair near his neck he let out a scream, sinking against the chair. He inched back helplessly as the metal kept inching closer, tears spilling out of his eyes. "I-I didn't do anything, I swear! I-I don't know what's go-going on." He sobbed, his eyes clenching shut.
"How'd you get your abilities?"
Panic was built up in his throat. He looked around in search for the voice talking, but the one way glass made it impossible for him to see outside the room.
"I-I don't, I don't know! What the fuck is this?!"
Another one spoke up, that time it was Captain America. "We know you know something. Was it HYDRA?"
The man only shook his head. "I don't know who HYDRA is, p-please just let me go!" He cried, squirming. He let out a yelp when fingers into his shoulders and the knives threatened closer again. "Stop! My-My name is Louis William Tomlinson! I-I grew up in Don-Doncaster England and ran away when I was sixteen!"
Harry furrowed his eyebrows, confused by Louis' behavior. "Why'd you run off?"
When Louis didn't answer at first the metal strapping his arm down gave him a shock. He hissed. "Because my father was abusive to my family." He squeezed his eyes shut tight in pain.
Harry bit his lip. He didn't pick that up when he looked inside his head earlier. "Where did you go to?"
Louis shook his head. "A city, I think? To get away. London probably, but... I-I don't... It just goes fuzzy from there."
Cap mumbled to Nat, but not quiet enough for Harry. "I'm not buyin it."
Harry wormed his way around the others and slid into the holding room. The men guarding the door tried holding him back, but Harry's eyes went a bit red and they instantly backed off. He looked at Louis. He looked different from when they first caught him yesterday. He looked weary and had this gleam in his eye that rubbed Harry the wrong way.
Sam, Cap, Bucky and Nat followed him in. Louis stared at him in fright. "Please don't hurt me."
Harry cocked his head. "I won't." He moved forward, but pulled his hand back when Louis flinched.
Nat grabbed Harry's arm. "Harry, what are you doing?"
He shook her off. "It's okay." He pushed two fingers against Louis' temple.
"What year is it?"
"Two thousand eighteen."
"Do you know what you do for a living?"
Louis went to answer, but not a second later his face went blank. "I... I have no idea. I know I moved my family to New York when I was nineteen... four years ago?"
"Okay," Harry mumbled, and then spread his fingers out on the side of Louis' head. He closed his eyes and put a little pressure on it.
"What're you-" Louis gasped, and his eyes fluttered shut. The guards gathered and held Louis' chest back against the chair for further measure with Harry being so close.
Harry's eyes flew open, but Louis stayed knocked out. "Let him go, get off of him." He stood up straight and stepped away.
Bucky looked at him puzzled. "No, you-"
"I said get off of him!" He shouted. His energy arose his powers without thinking. The guards, overpowered by Harry's magic, all stepped away from the chair.
Harry took a step back and pulled his magic back. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that." He jumped when Cap laid a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "He has amnesia, but I think it's also tied to whoever experimented on him, in a way. It's like he knows everything that's going on in the world in present day up to even yesterday, but can't remember anything about what he does, who gave him his abilities after he ran off, or any assassin jobs he's ever gone on."
Sam crossed his arms. "You trying to say he remembers everything about his daily life except anything relating to his 'evil criminal' side?"
Harry shrugged. "Pretty much."
Nat spoke up, "But when we were put on this mission they warned us about him having too high of a pain tolerance for him to get hurt."
"He has enhanced healing and an impossibly high pain tolerance, but for some reason the pain tolerance doesn't transfer to his neck and head." He shot a look at Bucky. "So while getting thrown into a wall may not hurt his body, he's still going to have the typical human head injury." He told everyone.
Bucky just huffed and crossed his arms in response. "Did some research?" Harry's cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
Cap knocked Bucky with his elbow and nodded towards the chair. Louis lifted his head up and squinted hard to get used to the light again. When he seemed alright, he took a long look at Harry. He was dressed in what just seemed like trendy clothes and a ridiculous red leather jacket. But then he zeroed in on the stars and stripes of Cap's suit and the metal wings tucked onto Sam's back. His eyes widened as he slowly realized who the people in front of him were.
"You-You're all superheroes- I um, I mean, Avengers." He murmured. "Holy shit. I-I don't understand-"
"It's okay. You won't understand a lot just yet but we'll work on it." Harry said as the others went about doing different things. Cap stayed behind outside the door. "Dr. Horan is going to just do some tests, and I'll be back in a minute." He stood to leave. Before he reached the door he turned. "I'm Scarlet Witch." He smirked. Louis blinked in confusion. He hadn't noticed the accent that Harry had while he was under an interrogation, but now that his heart pounding in his head wasn't all he could hear, he wondered where Harry was from.
Harry was startled by Cap when he left. "This ones all you, H, you know that right? It eases my conscious to know for sure that he doesn't remember any of his past but you've still got to be careful with him. We're all trusting you with it." All that he left him with was a pat on the shoulder and the daunting hope that Harry doesn't fuck this up and lose a criminal.
Back in the secured room, the doors are constantly opening and closing with nurses going about. Louis jumped when someone's hand landed on his shoulder. "So, you don't remember anything?" A blonde came around the side, taking a chair and sitting on it backwards in front of Louis, who shook his head, his eyes wide. "I mean, that sucks for you, but at least this is the first encounter they've had without you wanting to kill or hurt them." He laughed.
"What?!" Louis' eyes bugged out. "I-I, no, I-"
"I shouldn't have said that." The blonde sighed just as another doctor walked around behind him.
"Nope."
A nurse turned Louis' arm in the restraints while the man observed. She felt his pulse, then took a small circular chip and pressed it to Louis' head. He flinched away at first, but she forced it on.
A moment of nothing went by before a beep sounded and she took it off.
"I'm Niall, by the way." The doctor reached his hand forward, but dropped it when realizing Louis' hands were locked down.
"Um, where are we?" Louis asked. "Because the last thing I remember is grocery shopping."
Niall was about to respond, but then Harry was back, hanging in the doorway. He tilted his head to the side, jerking his chin up at Niall. "Untie him, please," he said.
Louis would've watched as Niall untied him, but he couldn't keep his eyes off of the other guys biceps flexing as he pulled a hoodie over his head. His forearm was grabbed, and he broke out of it, gulping and looking up at the guy with the curls.
Louis was guided with his arms behind his back by a guard while they followed Harry, walking quickly to keep up with his long strides.
"You can call me Harry, by the way," he said. "I'd tell you the others names but I'm not sure they'd like to be on a first name basis with you just yet." He looked back at Louis. "I don't know if you're aware of the Avengers?" Louis nodded. "Well, this is the facility, I guess."
Louis almost kept walking when Harry made a sudden turn. He entered a room. It was nothing special, literally. There was a bed in the corner with a small nightstand next to it. A small closet that looked useless. A television, and a bare shelf under it.
"What's this?" Louis asked.
"This is your room." Harry stated. "For the next week or so you'll be living here. We can't trust you yet but we really can't trust you in general since we're not sure on how to treat your abnormal case of amnesia yet," he explained. "I'm right down a few doors."
"Why do I have to stay here? Like, there's no one that we can get in contact with in my family or anything that can come get me? I don't have a purpose here right? Since I'm no superhero?" Louis asked, shaking his head slowly.
Despite that he was a villain and had done so many bad things, Harry really did feel bad. "Louis." He sighed, sitting down on the bed. It was so much harder seeing him as a real person instead of someone in their suit. "You're a trained assassin." He cringed, watching the color drain from Louis' face.
