Catching Up
Theta, Kappa, and Omega were sitting atop a building, the wind blowing through the former's fur and rapidly cooling the latter's metal exoskeleton. "After what happened, people discovered us in the lab. The authorities arrived at the lab and investigated the area. They arrested Kappa on the spot and detained him. You had lost power by that point, Omega, so you couldn't make any record of it for your memory banks." Theta said looking across the city. The place had changed so much from when the incident took place. Beta's light bridge technology was prominent throughout the lombax society, buildings were more stylized and less blocky than before, and the old lab had seemingly disappeared from the city.
Kappa slightly raised his head. "I was detained for three months and you two were taken into custody until the investigation was concluded. They questioned me and asked why I killed Beta. I told them the honest truth. That Beta had simply lost his mind and had abused us for our entire lives." Kappa lowered his head and sighed. "And of course they didn't believe me." Kappa said with a hint of anger. Theta elbowed Kappa. "Luckily, someone was smart enough to place a camera before the whole thing went down. The police found it, analyzed the footage, and realized that he was telling the truth. However, the authorities didn't want to tarnish the great doctors reputation so they refused to acknowledge the evidence. After all, their best scientist had suddenly turned into a psychopath. Somehow, the footage was leaked to the public and they demanded Kappa's release. They had no choice but to comply. After that, the doctor's research was seized and sealed. It's gonne be a while beforr anyone can pick up that subject again." Theta continued smiling softly.
Kappa kicked his legs back and forth as they dangled over the building. "So much has changed ever since you disappeared. But now, you can live with us again and we can be brothers just like Kappa promised." Theta added, hugging Omega and nuzzling into his cold metal body. "Aren't you getting a bit ahead of yourself there Theta?" Kappa asked. Theta cocked his head. "What do you mean? We... we are going to be brothers right?" Theta asked in worry. Kappa sighed. "As much as I'd like to happily accept Omega back with us, I can't do it unless he agrees to it. After all, he's made a lot of friends while he was gone. I can't, in good conscience, ask him to just leave them behind." Kappa explained. Omega finally realized what they meant. They wanted him to stay, but if he did, it'd be at the cost of not being The Announcer anymore. He'd more than likely never get to see his friends again, especially since they didn't have regular access to interdimensional teleportation.
Omega gently wrapped his left arm around Theta. "Kappa, if you want me to stay, then I'll stay. You made a promise to raise us as brothers right? Who am I to take that away from you?" He asked, nuzzling into Theta, much to the cyan Lombax's mixed feelings on the action. Kappa turned his head towards Omega. "Do you not understand what I'm asking? I'm asking you to leave your friends, you're family, you're entire life behind just to stay with us. How can you simply make that decision so lightly?" Kappa asked, completely confused with how easily Omega was taking this. Omega looked down at Kappa's paw and took it in his own. "This is different for me now that I have my memories back. You made a promise, I disappeared somehow and made a few new friends along the way, and I finally got to remember you. How can I just up and leave again after we just got back together again? And besides, they'll understand. I have been running The Coliseum for a few years now. Maybe it's time I took a break and started something new. Or rather, returned to something I already had." Omega said smiling softly at Kappa.
Kappa sniffed as his eyes watered, droplets forming at the edge of his lashes. "Blast it Omega, you're making me cry so much today. I might experience dehydration at this rate." Kappa said, sniffling in between his words. Omega chuckled a bit. "Come here big bro." Omega said wrapping his arms around Kappa. Kappa returned the embrace and sobbed softly into his shoulder. Theta nuzzled in between the two of them. "Thank you for choosing to stay Omega. I've never seen Kappa this happy before. But what will you tell the other's?" The cyan lombax asked the still cold robotic lombax. Omega laughed softly. "Like I said, they'll understand. We'll all be a bit sad that I'm not gonna be around as often anymore, but we'll pull through." Omega said. "But how did I disappear? And who leaked the footage to the public?" Omega asked letting Kappa out of his embrace.
Kappa frowned, "We don't know where you went or how you disappeared, but one day you just couldn't be found. As for who leaked the footage..." Kappa smiled and shook his head. "Let's just say, he was a bit rebellious at the time. And he's quite the spunky character. However, he left one day and never came back. I don't know where he could be, or if he's even thinking of coming back home anymore. All I know, is that he's the reason why I was released. Here I was hoping you two could meet." Kappa said disappointedly. Omega nodded. "Yeah, I was kinda hoping to see him too." He said turning his head to look at the city below them. Another breeze blew through the trio. Omega shivered and held his metal arms. "Can we go back to a heated building now?" He asked looking down at the building roof they were sitting on.
Kappa smiled at Omega and stood up to his feet. "Let's return to the lab. We can upgrade you. In fact we can upgrade your friends weapons as well." Kappa said offering his paw. Omega grabbed Kappa's paw, helping him stand up. Theta stood up as well. "Yeah! We can do almost anything they want! Let's go!" Theta said grabbing their paws and running to the edge of the building, forcing the others to run with him. "Let's do this together, as it should've been last time!" Theta shouted as they all jumped off together. Their boots started glowing with purple accents and they began sliding down the side of the building. Theta let go of their paws and extended his right paw, a device in his wrist glowed and a solid and smooth lightbridge appeared halfway up the building and extended all across the city. Last time it was bunch of sporadically placed blocky structures, this time it was a solid bridge, curving and zigzagging this way and that. Omega smiled. Theta and Kappa seem to have improved the technology in years past.
The wind blew past their bodies as they sped down the new and improved anti-gravity course. Loop the loops, corkscrews, zigzags, halfpipes, all of these had been incorporated in the track. Kappa and Omega laughed as they chased after Theta throughout the city. A few minutes of mindless racing fun and they were back at the lab. Seeing Ratchet and (Y/n), they walked up to them. "We should release your friends. Who knows how crazy they might've gone in our abscence." Theta said walking down the staircase to the semi submerged conference chamber. Kappa and the rest followed him down. "Okay, on three!" Two gruff voices shouted in unison.
Theta smirked mischievously and walked over to the wall. "One..." the two shouted. "Two..." Theta raised his paw. "Three! HAH!!" The two voices shouted as heavy footsteps could be heard. Theta snapped his digits as Dickey and Brax came barreling through the now open doorway and face planted onto the stairs. "I told you two to stop trying. They would've come back eventually." Corra said with her arms crossed and an annoyed look on her face. The two knuckleheads groaned as they slowly pushed themselves to their feet. "So? How was the staircase?" Theta asked with a shit eating grin on his face. Brax and Dickey only grumbled as they looked away from him. Theta chuckled as Clank and Elaris stepped up. "So, have you come back to inform us of whatever it is you were discussing?" Clank asked, looking up at Theta. "Of course. And to give Omega an overdue upgrade." Theta said looking down at the robot.
"Forgive me but, who is this, Omega?" Clank asked tilting his head. Omega popped up behind him Theta. "That would be me, Clank." He said with a small smile on his face. Dickey and Clawsha looked dumbfounded. "I'm sorry but when did you get a name change, Announcer?" Clawsha asked taking a few steps towards her friend, clearly suspsicious of what was going on. (Y/n) took a step forward and looked at Clawsha. "We'll explain later. For now, let's get back to the lab for Omega's upgrade." The burgundy lombax said winking at the cat. Clawsha raised a brow but didn't say anything further. Elaris cleared her throat, "Whatever is going on, we need to get it done fast. We need to get back to stopping Dr. Nefarious. Who knows how much progress he's made on his plans." She said trying to keep everyone on track.
Ratchet nodded, "Right Elaris. Kappa lead the way." The yellow lombax said nodding at the black lombac. Kappa nodded and turned, beginning to walk up the stairs. "Of course. Let's make haste for those upgrades. Follow me everyone." He said, not bothering to turn around. "Come on everyone!" Omega said as he and Theta happily followed Kappa up and out of the submerged area. Everyone else followed behind and soon they were in the middle of the city on a light bridge, taking in the sights around them. Clawsha and Dickey caught up with (Y/n) and began whispering in his ear. "So what's going on?" Dickey asked. Clawsha raised her head to look down at the burgundy lombax. "Yeah, what is going on here. Why are they calling The Announcer by the title Omega?" She asked, extremely suspicious of what happened whil they were semi imprisoned in a conference room.
(Y/n) sighed, "The Announcer was originally a creation of a random scientist from this dimension, that's why he looks like a lombax and his real name is Omega. One day the scientist was killed because he went batshit crazy and tried to abuse him and the other two, Kappa and Theta. One day he disappeared and somehow Omega became The Announcer and then he ran the Coliseum with us for a few years. Now here we are, going to get an upgrade for him. Or us. I don't really know. I wasn't exactly given the run doen of the entire thing in detial. So yeah, that's what's happening." (Y/n) said continuing to follow the group while Clawsha and Dickey looked dumbfounded once again as they stopped walking. Dickey leaned in towards Clawsha. "Do we just pretend we got it for now and wait and see if this is legit?" The dillo asked. Clawsha nodded. "Yeah. Let's just keep our confusion to ourselves for now. We should catch up before they leave us." She said as she and Dickey ran to catch up to the group.
The group stopped at the building the five Lombax's had been at earlier. Kappa and Theta stopped then turned around to face the group. "Here we are! The lab where we're gonna give you all your upgrades. Any weapons or abilities you want augmented? We'll fix it right up for ya!" Theta said smiling widely. "Wait, really?!" They all asked in shock and confusion. Theta nodded. The group started cheering and high fiving each other. Today was gonna be a good day.
