Chapitre 51: L'hospitalisation
Even though Remy felt that he had enough sleep, he slept through the whole day. The anesthetic kept kicking in after his surgery. So he slept through the whole morning and the afternoon. While he was asleep, the doctor had to tell all the information to Git and Linguini, when he came to check on Remy. When Remy woke up, Git told Remy everything about his inhaler and medication schedule.
"Does your lungs still hurt when you breathe?" Git asked.
"No, not anymore," Remy replied. "Just two days ago, it was a little painful, but now, I feel nothing when I breathe. I have to say, I can still remember the pain when I was breathing in that smoke."
"You really scared us there, Remy," Git said soothingly.
"Oh yes... I... I'm sorry," Remy apologized.
"You don't need to be," Git said, "As long as you're alive, that's all I need from you."
"So, what's gonna happen to the restaurant?" Remy asked, concerningly.
"You're amazing," Git replied, very amazed, "You worry about your restaurant more than your health. Your restaurant is still under construction. I think it's gonna be complete when you're completely healed."
"So am I really that unhealthy?" Remy asked.
"Finally you ask about yourself," Git chuckled, "You're fine. They put medication on you. You're healed, but not completely. They're hospitalizing you because you need to take a break since you inhaled a lot of smoke."
"I see," Remy said. "Did the restaurant lose money?"
"Oh the government decided to aid the restaurant," Git replied modestly, "You didn't lose that much. I'm pretty sure you're gonna gain more money when you get back to work. Alright, time for your inhaler." He put the mask over Remy's muzzle. He needed to take it every twenty-four hours every ten minutes so that he can be completely healed in no time. Remy had to relax while using the inhaler, so Git gave him a massage every time he put on the inhaler mask. Remy felt much more relaxed in hospital ever since Git stayed with him.
When Git took off Remy's inhaler mask, it was time for dinner. The doctor was kind enough to bring food for Remy and Git for free. "The doctor is so nice to rats. I've never seen any humans besides Linguini and Colette who has ever been so kind to rats," Remy awed as he received his food.
"About your arm, how is it? Do you want me to feed you?" Git offered.
"I'm fine, thank you. I think it's getting better every time," Remy replied.
"I'm glad you're feeling better," Git said as he chewed his food.
"But, Git," Remy said as he stopped eating and looked down on his food.
"Hm? What is it? Something wrong?" Git asked.
"No, it's just, I really want to take a walk," Remy said, "It's kind of boring to sit here and let the time pass." The looked outside the window. "I really want to step out there."
"You're not allowed to?" Git asked.
"I don't know. I never asked. There's no pen, no paper, nothing to communicate with."
"Well then, the next time the doctor comes, we'll ask him. I'll help you."
"Oh, that'd be wonderful. You know, I always wanted to take a walk after the dream. Oh, it was a strange dream. I was all alone in a wide flowery plain, and I breathed in the fresh air, I walked all alone, jumped around, I don't know I felt like I was in heaven. Then you popped out, we checked out clouds and had some lovely talk. And if I wanted to cook, a stove and ingredients popped out from the ground, and I got to cook. We had lunch? Dinner? I don't know, but we dined together, but then something shocked me, I guess, and then I woke up. Ah, it was strange, but a wonderful dream."
"You seemed to enjoy that dream a lot. Although you already talked about it, it's still pretty interesting." Git said as he chewed on his food.
"I'm surprised I talked about it that much." Remy was even happier. When he continued to eat his hospital food, it tasted so much better.
"Well, let's try talking to the doctor if we can take a walk," Git suggested.
"Oh, you're the best," Remy said.
"Yes, I'm the best." They both snickered playfully.

The next day brightened up in the hospital. When the doctor came by to check on Remy, he gave a little tug on his clothes. "What is it, little fella?" the doctor asked. Remy pointed at the doctor's pen that was sticking out from his pocket. "You want to use this pen?" Remy nodded. He handed the pen to Remy. "Do you also want the paper to write on?" Remy nodded. So the doctor gave him a piece of sticky note from his pocket. "So what do you want to tell me?" He asked, which made Remy quickly write a sentence with big letters, 'May I go take a walk at some point? I'll be safe since I'll be with my friend on my side.' and showed him the paper. "Hmm, well since you're healthy enough, I guess you can. And since you can be frustrated staying inside this place the whole time, I shouldn't keep you in here all the time. But remember to come back when it's time for you to eat or time to take your medication. All right?" Remy nodded. "All right, have fun walking when you get your chance." Remy gave him a thumbs up to thank him.
Few moments after the doctor left, Git woke up. Remy wanted to tell him the good news immediately. "Hey, Git, we can take a walk."
"Well, that's good, Remy."
"But he also said I should be back when it's time to take my medication and/or eat my meal. So let's take a walk after breakfast."
"Well, all right. Good thing that we got the chance to walk," Git said. Then he saw the doctor come in and said, "well, here comes your breakfast." The doctor left as he served each bowl to Remy and Git. "What do you think about hospital food? I wish that there were some spices on this so that it can taste better."
"I mean, they taste bland for a reason," Remy explained. "No matter what type of patient you are, you have to eat food that is not too salty, not too spicy, or not too much of a taste of any flavor."
"Well, I mean I guess," Git said as he chewed on his food.
"I mean, I don't know why you're complaining when you're enjoying it already," Remy said as he watched Git swallow his food.
"I'm eating it for survival," Git replied. Remy chuckled as he thought it was ridiculous of him to say that. Remy started to munch his food. "What about you? Are you enjoying the food? You usually don't eat if it doesn't suit your appetite."
"I'm eating it for survival," Remy replied. "All right, get to eating, I want to walk with you," Remy ordered.
"Your nagging is still on the roll," Git said playfully.
"I will smack you," Remy threatened friendly.
"Ooo-kay, we don't want any violence in here," Git backed away for a bit. "Plus, you eat slower than I do."
"I savor the food every time I eat," Remy said as he swallowed his food. "Oh, man, it tastes good since I haven't eaten for a while."
"Eat slowly," Git said as he watched Remy eat. "I don't want you to have indigestion on top of your lungs and arm."
"You worry about me a lot," Remy said.
"Is that bad?" Git asked.
"No, it's good. It's just... it's just that I never had much good treatment from anyone else before. Well, besides my family, you know?" Remy said.
"I see," Git replied as he swallowed his last mouthful. "So, I'm ready when you are."
"Just a few more bites. Or do you want the rest?" Remy asked.
"No, I'm not letting you give up on your food. You gotta eat." Git rejected politely.
"Oh, all right," Remy said as he continued to eat. Git watched him eat with a warm smile across his snout. "What is it?" Remy asked as he noticed him watching him.
"It's just... I feel happy watching you eat and staying healthy," Git said. Remy smiled and continued to chew his food. Git's smiled seemed to be warmer when Remy's bowl was finally empty. "Ready?" He asked. Remy nodded. They held their hands and walked outside the hospital building. To Remy, It was like a large forest outside of the hospital building. There were a lot of trees, shades, flowers, and other plants. Remy enjoyed the sight and the air as he started to walk around.
"Ahh, I missed this so much," Remy said as he breathed in the outside air and let the sunshine hit his face. "I feel so much better now!"
"The outside air and the sunlight must've been the better medication than the inhaler and the humidifier," Git said.
"You know, thinking about it," Remy replied, "inhaler and humidifier are beneficial for me biologically, and sunlight and outside air are beneficial for me emotionally."
"Well, let's take all the advantage we can take," Git said as he held his hand. Git also looked around, examining the flowers and trees. "Looking at this view, is this view the same thing you had in your dream?"
Remy looked around and studied everything that was around him. Then he shook his head and said, "Well, not really, but this view is a little better since there are a lot of trees. It would be much better if the plain was bigger."
"So, why don't you start rolling, jumping, and running around?" Git asked, teasingly.
"Okay, that was my dream," Remy said. "I'm not that energetic in real life."
"Sometimes you are..." Git said. Remy giggled and stepped around the grassy area, and performed a cartwheel. Git smiled in satisfaction. He started to skip around after that one cartwheel. While skipping, he accidentally tripped over a knot and started to fly. Git quickly jumped in and caught him. "Remember, I'm your bodyguard," Git winked as he looked at Remy in his arms.
"Oh wow. You have such great reflexes. Thanks," Remy said. "Wow, you save my life so many times. I can name much more."
"Well, Remy, that's my-"
"Job?" Remy interrupted and asked.
"More like duty," Git said. "It's my duty to protect you, save you, and keep you safe no matter what happens."
"Aww," Remy said. Git stood up and started to walk around in the grass plain. "Git, you can put me down now."
"But I don't want to," Git said. He walked over to the flower garden. Remy touched the flowers and the dewdrops as Git walked through the bushes. They heard a clock, ringing eleven times. "Eleven o'clock. I guess it's time for your inhaler."
"Aww..." Remy wanted to spend more time outside.
"Don't worry," Git said. "We'll come back after you're done with your inhaler. Deal?"
"Deal."
