Chapitre 42 : Un Jour Avec La Famille
It would take three more weeks for the restaurant to finish the reconstruction. Remy couldn't wait for the reconstruction to be over. He wanted to go back and start working already. He already missed the amount of work he had during dinner rush. He stepped quietly inside the colony. Everyone greeted him with kindness. He was pretty much a celebrity now in the colony. As more people talked to him, he was a little bit worried that Emile would be jealous of him, but thankfully, he's happy with the amount of friends he have. Now he wasn't sure if he had friends or not. Should I make some close friends in the colony? He thought to himself. But then he decided to change his mind and take it slow for now. At least everyone seems to be happy. I suppose, Remy thought as he went through the chattering crowd. It was like going through a maze to find his family. When he finally found his family, he greeted them with a friendly wave. Django waved back. Emile waved back vigorously. Desiree walked up to him to hug him. "How is my lovely son today?" Desiree would always ask him as she hugged him.
"I'm fine, mom," Remy said, "You should watch out for Emile too, mom."
"Oh, I do, don't worry," Desiree said as she caressed his face.
"Yeah Remy," Django said, "you should see your mother every time Emile brings food. I don't think either of them are tired of it." Emile just sat there.
"Well, then," Remy said, "if you say so." Then he sat next to Emile. "So, how's everything in the colony?"
"Fine, fine," Django said.
"It's just like everyday," Emile said, "Nothing new happened."
"Has anything chaotic happened before?" Desiree asked.
"Remy disappearing-" Django started.
"What? Remy disappeared?" Desiree was startled.
"All right, Desiree, don't get excited," Django calmed her down. "The thing is, before we came here, we used to live in some old lady's house. We were somehow found, so we decided to leave as she tried to kill us. But then Remy got behind, he seemed to be carrying something some sort of... uh some sort of..."
"Book," Remy said it for him.
"Yea, that," Django continued. "Anyways, he got separated, then we found him a day or two later-"
"Uhh, dad? I found him," Emile interrupted. "Gotta give me some credit."
"Yea, whatever," Django continued again. "So that happened. Anyways, he was a little disobedient about working with humans-"
"But then I proved it," Remy interrupted again.
"Guys, let me talk," Django said, a little annoyed. Remy and Emile looked at each other and snickered. "Anyways, well yeah, we helped him in the end. That was one of the biggest chaos we had." Emile was about to say a word, but then Django stopped him. "The next problem was that I figured out about his relationship with another male rat." Remy sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Oh Django, you're so judgemental," Desiree said as she understood Remy's feelings. Remy and Desiree exchanged a high-five.
"Anyways, it took me time to accept his interaction with humans, and getting into a relationship with a male rat. Then there was a storm. Lately, some war happened between us and the other clan. But then Remy was smart enough to find a way to keep peace between us." Django sighed as he finished his story. "Well, it was pretty chaotic."
"Aww you poor things," Desiree said as she held Emile and Remy's hand. "You must've had a very hard time. I'm glad both of you stayed strong and dealt with it." Emile and Remy smiled at her words.
"Umm... Desiree?" Django said, "I suffered as much as they did..."
"Oh, my boys have grown up so much!" Desiree didn't hear what Django said.
"Desiree?" Django said in a singsong voice.
"Yes, honey?" Desiree finally noticed him.
"I suffered as much as they did," Django said, trying to gain some sympathy from his wife. Remy and Emile snickered silently.
"Oh, Django, you're still a child," Desiree said. "Come here for a bit." Django leaned in. Desiree let her lips greet Django's cheek and withdrew.
Emile raised his eyebrows. Remy watched the scene as if it was nothing, uninterested. Django gestured them to face the other way. Emile raised his eyebrows more, and Remy gave him a sly smile. Django groaned.
"By the way, Remy," Emile said.
"Hm?" Remy responded.
"I'm just curious about how the apartment looks like. How is it?" Emile asked, very curious about Remy's living place.
"Very livable," Remy said, "It's very cozy and nice."
"Ooh, can we visit it?" Emile asked.
"Emile! No!" Django stopped him.
"What? Why?" Emile asked.
"Dad, it's fine," Remy said, then he turned to him and said, "do you want to visit it now? They're pretty used to having rats in their apartment."
"Ooh! I really want to visit!" Emile said excitedly.
"Oh, I remember when I spent the night there," Desiree reflected the day when Remy and Git rescued her, fed her fresh food, and let her sleep there.
"Wait, you visited the place?" Django asked.
"Oh yes, before I knew that he was my son," Desiree replied. "It's pretty lovely, Django. I wish you and Emile can visit there."
"You guys can come right now if you want," Remy said as he stood up. "Come on, I'll lead the way." Before leaving, Django and Remy walked up to Git.
"All right, you're in charge while I'm gone," Django requested. "I know you'll do a good job. If anything happens, report to me when we get back."
"Yes, sir," Git said confidently. Then Django went back to join Emile and Desiree.
Then Remy said, "Hey, I'll see you later."
"Alright, be back safely," Git said, "have fun. Love you."
Remy hugged him and said, "Love you, too." They kissed before parting. Then Remy went up to his family and guided them to the apartment.
As they walked together, Desiree told Remy, "Hey, Remy, you know, you and Git remind me of me and your father when we were younger."
"Were you guys smooching around too?" Emile asked, rather innocently.
"What the- Emile!" Remy said. "Git and I don't smooch each other all the time! That was way before when we were just new in our relationship!"
"Hmm, okay," Emile replied. "What about mom and dad?"
"Pretty much," Desiree said as if it was really nothing to be embarrassed about.
"Desiree, let's not talk about that." Django blushed, looking uncomfortable. The truth is Django and Desiree were lovelier couple than Remy and Git, well, at least that's what Django thought. When they were young, he and Desiree went out a lot. They really liked their privacy when they were in a relationship. Ahh... those were the good days, hiding from everyone while having our special moments, Django thought as he let out a deep sigh.
"Your father used to take me somewhere quiet when we wanted to be alone," Desiree told Remy and Emile as they walked together. Django pretended that he wasn't listening to all of this. He reflecting on his past, but it was a little embarrassing. "He was such a sly rat when it came to our lone time. Back in our days, gazing at the stars in the countryside is everything we needed to get the mood. And then he would-"
"O-kay," Django stopped her, "that's enough past-story time for today." Remy and Emile snickered as they both knew what their mother was going to say next.
"Remy, how far do we need to walk?" Emile asked.
"We should be pretty close now," Remy said. Then he pointed at the building and said, "ah, there it is!"
Emile, Desiree, and Django looked up. "Does he live in this whole building?" Emile asked as he stretched his neck to stare at the tall building.
"No, just one part of them. We have to go up. Come on, let's go." Remy entered the building, climbed up the stairs, and opened the door to the apartment. Emile, Desiree, and Django followed after Remy. As they all entered the apartment, Emile, Desiree, and Django's eyes and mouths opened wide in amazement.
"Wow," Django breathed. "What a place!"
"This is amazing!" Emile exclaimed.
"Well, what would you like to do?" Remy announced.
"Let's eat something!" "Why don't we get something to eat?" "Cook something for us." Emile, Desiree, and Django said at the same time.
Remy laughed modestly. "Well, what would you like to eat?"
"Fruitcake!" "Chocolate chip cookies for me." "Apple pie." Emile, Desiree, and Django ordered their food at the same time. Now that they visited Remy's restaurant so much, they know a lot of names of different types of food.
"Seems like you all want dessert," Remy said. "Well, have a seat in the kitchen while I get those prepared."
They all sat at the small dining table and patiently waited until Remy put everything in the oven until they were all done. To wait until everything was baked, Remy decided to kill time to talk to his family. "So Remy," Django said. "When do you start working again?"
"Uhh... probably in three weeks or so? Around there," Remy replied. "No one really knows. The bistro is going to turn into a restaurant, so it may take a little long."
"So, Remy, how did you get interested in what humans do?" Desiree asked.
"This was supposed to be a secret, but I guess there's no point still keeping it a secret," Remy started, "the thing is, as I was growing up, somehow, I developed a great sense of taste and smell-"
"So, he was the poison checker," Emile interrupted.
"Yes I was," Remy added, "I didn't really like the job. At one point, I became interested in human lifestyle, because, there's something about them. They just don't live to survive, they make creation of everything! Since I didn't want to eat garbage every time, I went in to try some fresh food, and sometimes cook them."
"So, I had to keep secrets for him, too," Emile said, almost sounded as if he was complaining.
"Can't believe you boys have done so much thing without even me knowing," Django was impressed of how much secrets his sons can keep. Desiree chuckled.
"But now, we're both bad at keeping secrets after all that," Emile said.
"Good," Django said.
"Secrets are fine, as long as both of you are safe and comfortable," Desiree said.
"But not too much secrets," Django said.
"I'm pretty sure our sons don't have that much secret to hide from us," Desiree said.
"That's true, dad," Remy added, "You pretty much know all my secrets now."
"Splendid," Django said, "what about you, Emile? You have any secrets?"
"If I tell you, it wouldn't be a secret anymore." Emile said, avoiding his dad's method that he'd talk him out of it.
"Emile, you could've just said you have no secrets to be safe," Remy said.
"Oh yeah! Why didn't have I thought of that?" Emile said, impressed. "Remy, you have a gift of thinking smart!"
"So, he can be smart with his words, so what?" Django said, unimpressed.
"Of course dad, you're never impressed about anything." Remy said.
"Just like when we were young," Desiree added.
Ding! The oven went. "Well, your food is ready!" Remy went over to the oven to take the food out.
"Do you need help, Remy?" Django asked.
"Nope, I got this." Remy placed each desserts on separate plates and served it to them. There were three dishes: fruitcake, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie.
"Aren't you eating?" Desiree asked.
"I just want fresh fruits," Remy said as he grabbed some berries from the refrigerator. He joined his family to eat and chat.
"Mmm, Remy's cooking is the best!" Desiree said as she swallowed her cookies.
"I can eat them everyday!" Emile said as he devoured his fruitcake.
"I admit, they're better than those garbage we eat," Django sounded uninterested.
"Any fresh food is better than garbages you eat, dad," Remy said. "And my stomach and intestines feel much better as I never eat any garbages."
"Show off," Django said under his breath.
"Is there anything else to do in here after we eat?" Emile asked as he looked around.
"We can always watch a movie," Remy suggested.
"What's a movie?" Desiree asked.
"I'll show you after you finish your food," Remy said. Emile and Desiree decided to quickly cram their food and let pass through their throat. Django already finished his. After they finished, Remy took the to the couch, and turned on a movie for them. As usual, he played them his favorite movie, Le Chef. The movie was very interesting to all three of them.
This is what I wanted with my family... Desiree thought as she peeked over at her three favorite male rats as she watched the movie. I really wanted to spend time with them like this. I hope this happens more often especially when Remy is not busy.
