Chapitre 31: Après la Nouvelle Année
Next late morning, Git and Remy went to the colony to tell the wonderful news about marriage between Linguini and Colette. The news of their marriage spread all over to the colony. Many rats were excited to go on human's wedding.
"So we're safe?" Emile asked nervously. "No humans are going to find out that we have been at the wedding the whole time?"
"Yup, we are going to be completely safe. You won't have to worry about anything!" Remy patted on Emile's shoulder to make him feel better.
"Don't worry too much." Git smirked and put his hands on his hips.
"By the way, when are you guys going to get married?" Emile was very curious about what would happen if Git and Remy actually married. Remy blushed. Git cleared his throat.
"When the time comes... maybe..." Git said as he scratched the back of his head. Remy slightly elbowed him.
"Well then, we might have two weddings this year!" Emile said excitedly. He wanted to see how wedding looks like.
"Emile, stop..." Remy said as his face turned even more red.
"Tell us as soon as you decide!" Emile walked away.
"Emile..." Remy's face was red like a tomato.
"Now, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be fine." Then they remained silent for a pretty long time. Something told Git that Remy still loved him but not quite yet ready for marriage. I mean, we were only going out for almost three months now. We still need more time together.
"All right, folks! Time to gather food for lunch!" Django announced and everyone started to get to work. Even Git left to gather some food. After Django announced everyone to work, Emile walked up Remy.
"Hey Remy, you know what was really weird for past week or so?" Emile said.
"What?" Remy responded.
"Well, there are half of rats getting the food first and then the other half gets them last," Emile said, thinking something was very weird and unusual. "This usually never happened before."
"Ahh." Then Remy snickered. He and Git knew what was going on. The half of the clan made a bet that Remy and Git were in a relationship, and they won, so they are getting the first get.
"Why are you laughing?" Emile asked, completely clueless of what was going on.
"Oh, forget it. It's nothing," Remy said, trying to hold in his laugh. But Emile was suspicious. He thought for a moment. Then his eyes opened wide.
"Wait, you knew about this?" Emile asked.
"Yes I did!" Remy replied.
"Wait, what? How? What happened?" Emile asked once more.
"The thing is, they had a betting pool that you, dad, baby rats, and very old rats didn't know about. They bet whether Git and I are dating or not. So the half who won gets the first pick of the meal for rest of three months!" Remy said.
"Aww, they could've let me in!" Emile said.
"But you already knew about this..." Remy said.
"Exactly! I mean, I'm not picky but I do have preference on food!" Emile said.
"I mean I guess," Remy said sarcastically.
"So what are you guys talking about?" Git went up to Remy and Emile.
"I told him that there was a betting pool about us in a relationship," Remy explained.
"Ah, I see." Git nodded.
"Hey guys, just wanted to ask. How come you guys don't act like a couple anymore?" Emile asked.
"What do you mean?" Remy was confused.
"Well, the thing is, last time I saw you guys kiss was like, two months ago, I believe," Emile said.
"Okay, we're not going to be mushy when other rats are around," Remy said, a little blushing.
"But they all know that you guys are dating!" Emile said aloud.
"Emile, we like our privacy," Git added with a little blush on his face.
"Oh, ok! Fine!" Emile said.
Then Django walked up to Emile and said, "Emile, come on, time for you to work."
"Oh, all right," Emile said as he groaned.
"Dad, should I help?" Remy asked.
"No, it's fine. By the way, what were you guys talking about?" Django asked.
"Oh, nothing special sir, just Emile saying hi to Remy." Git
"I see." Django noticed that Remy and Git had their rings on. "But, don't you guys think you need to be more careful with those rings? What others find out?"
"Well, dad, the thing is..." Remy looked around nervously.
"Wait, dad!" Emile ran towards Django. "Hey dad! I forgot to tell you, but guess what!"
"Hey, what's all the fuss about?" Django asked as he turned to Emile.
"That's not important! There was a betting pool between some rats! One group bet that Remy and Git are in a relationship and the other group bet that they aren't! Now the group of rats that won the bet get the first pick! Can you believe it? I wanted to participate but they didn't tell me about it!" Emile complained.
"So... are you done talking?" Django said as if it didn't bother him.
"What? Aren't you disappointed?" Emile asked.
"Why would I be?" Django asked. It really didn't bother him at all.
"Because they didn't let you in the bet!" Emile said.
"I'm just glad that this is not going to be the bigger problem. Come on, Emile, time to work. Food will not come to us." Django walked away to search for food that they can eat.
"Well, that ended easier than I thought it would be!" Remy sighed in relief, then he examined how his father walked away. "But he doesn't seem very happy about it."
"What are you talking about?" Git asked.
"Oh, he had some bad experience when other rats were butting into his relationship," Remy said. "He would talk to us all the time about it. Now Emile got sick of those stories so I never mention them to him."
"So what really happened?" Git asked.
"Well, it was during the time when my grandfather led the colony. Before my dad married my mom, he was going to confess to other female rat. Then other rats had a betting pool to see if that rat was going to accept my dad's confession. She found that out and thought that my dad led the betting pool. So she became really angry and rejected him and ran off. While he was disappointed at his friends, that's when my mom came into cheer him up. That's really how they met and eventually got into a relationship, and then married."
"Ah, I see. Why weren't you angry when you found out that there was a betting pool?" Git asked.
"I was rather relieved than angry that time. Plus, I don't really get angry for that. It's not like it affected our relationship in anyway." Remy was very chill about it. Git smiled with a relief.
A/N: This is the last chapter about the Christmas and New Years! I do apologize for my grammar and cheesy story outline, but this is my first story ever, and I wrote until about 50 chapters before I started writing other stories. Upcoming chapters will excited you more, since that's when I had more experience in writing with other stories I published! Except a lot but not too much in upcoming chapters!
