Chapitre 27 : Le Jour Idéal

When Remy got up, he felt much better now. When he looked at the clock, it was around 3:50 in the morning. The moon and the stars of dawn of Paris let out a warm, bright, and beautiful light. As he gazed at the view of dawn of Paris he also noticed a huge figure on the opposite side of the windowsill. He carefully walked towards the figure. It's Git, he thought, he must've stayed here while I was sick. He suddenly felt a pressure on his eyes. Even when Git was sick, Remy didn't stay with him for the night. Oh dear, his actions always make me feel so emotional, Remy thought as he wiped his tears away. I need to do something for him besides that muffler, Remy thought looked at Git snooze on the other side of the windowsill. He grabbed the teddy bear that Git gave him and had him cuddle it instead, then he put a blanket over him.

Since he focused on the muffler so much, he forgot to take a shower throughout the week. Feeling dirty, he walked into the restroom and gave himself a warm bubble bath. It felt much warmer and more relaxing after that heavy fever yesterday. When he finished taking a bath, the sun wasn't even up yet. To kill time, Remy turned on the lantern a little bit so he wouldn't wake Git, and quietly read Anyone Can Cook until the sunrise.

After a while, the book reflected the rays of sunlight. When he looked at the clock, it read 5:50. He closed the book and headed over to the kitchen to prepare special breakfast for Git. He started to whip the eggs, chop some vegetables, and stir-fry them. When he was whipping omelettes for him and Linguini, he did it normally. For Git's omelette, he took extra care. Remy gently placed thin slices of cheddar cheese, Git's favorite, before he folded the omelette in half. Few moments later, Linguini came out.

"Hey, little chef!" Linguini called, "Were you sick yesterday?"

Remy nodded.

"Your friend stayed over night to take care of you. Did you notice that?" Linguini asked.

Remy nodded with delight.

"Are you feeling better today?" Linguini asked.

Remy nodded with a thumbs up.

"Well, thank goodness yesterday was our day off. Anyways, where is your friend?" Linguini looked around.

Remy pointed at the windowsill and made a gesture to signify that Git was still sleeping.

"I see. You two seem to be very close together. Are you guys like best friends?"

Remy felt a little awkward by that question. He blushed, coughed to cleared his throat, and scratched the side of his head. However, it was time that Linguini knew about it. They're partners after all.

"What is it?"

Remy went to grab a paper and a pen to write to tell Linguini that he is in a relationship with Git. He carefully wrote the word 'boyfriend' on the paper big enough so that Linguini can read. Remy felt that Linguini should know now. After all, Linguini has become more than a friend, he's like another father to Remy. Like Django knows about his relationship, Linguini should also know about his relationship. But it did take courage for him to confess that he's dating a male rat.

"Oh... Sorry about that question, I didn't know... It's also interesting that rats can have a gay relationship. Not that I'm trying to offend you! I'm just very amazed by it."

Remy gave a small smile as he handed the plate to Linguini. He dug in immediately. Remy was glad that Linguini was open-minded about this.

"Mmm, it's really delicious," Linguini said as he chewed on his omelette, "did you put different spice this time?"

Remy nodded as he pointed at the small bottle of crushed thymes.

"I see. I'll be going out soon if that's fine with you."

Remy gave him a thumbs up as he chewed his omelette. After Linguini finished his breakfast, he washed himself, dressed up, and got out. After Remy saw him leave, he went over to Git and stayed by him until he woke up. He gently sat down next to him so that he wouldn't wake him. Remy sighed as he put his hands on his chin and watched Git sleep. How did I not realize how handsome he is before his first day of being my bodyguard? Remy thought as he admired his boyfriend's charm.

As Git snored softly, Remy's stomach started to growl. I just ate a whole omelette. Why am I still hungry? Remy wondered as he put his hand over his stomach. He peeked over at Git, wondering if his stomach growling woke him up. Thankfully, he was still gently snoring as he cuddled the bear that Remy made him hold. Remy's stomach kept growling, but he just stayed there until Git woke up. When he looked at the clock, it read 7:52. It's been four hours. Remy thought.

Then suddenly, Git yawned and stretched his arms out as he woke up. He looked around to make out where he is. "Oh, I must've fell asleep while looking out for Remy," he said to himself as he rubbed his eyes. Then he saw Remy, who was sitting next to him with his hands on his chin.

"Good morning," Remy said warmly.

"Good morning," Git replied with a smooth smile across his face. "Are you feeling better today?"

Remy nodded. "Want some breakfast?"

"Absolutely." Then they both headed towards the dining table where Git's breakfast was already served. Git modestly took a bite of Remy's omelette. "Mmm, did you put cheddar?" Remy nodded as he watched Git eat. Git stopped chewing and moving his fork when he saw that Remy wasn't eating. "Aren't you eating?"

"I already ate," Remy replied. But as soon as he replied, his stomachs started to growl.

"You know, you threw up so much yesterday. You need to eat more to regain your energy that you lost yesterday."

"All right," Remy said as he went to the stove to cook some scrambled eggs and ham. He even got a piece of bread to go with it. "Maybe I'm eating too much. Don't you think?"

"It's fine," Git said as he chuckled. "You need more nutrients after what happened yesterday. So eat up and regain your energy."

Remy nodded. "By the way, thank you for staying by my side yesterday. Even I didn't stay by your side when you were sick."

"Your fever was worse than mine," Git replied, "so I had a feeling that you needed more care than I did."

"But still..." Remy started but he became speechless.

"Now, don't blame yourself too much," Git said, trying to not make him feel guilty, "plus, that was the time before your father knew about our relationship. Even if I was dying sick, you couldn't possibly stay by my side forever. You have work and your dad would feel suspicion."

"Oh, that's right," Remy said, rather more softly than before.

"So next time, if I'm sick again, you can stay with me the whole time. Although we would still have to be cautious so that other rats don't notice," Git said as he winked. Remy giggled softly. "Goodness, this omelette is really delicious!"

"Want something to wash it down?" Remy asked as he got up.

"Do you have any fruit juice?" Git asked as he wiped his nuzzle.

"I think I have orange, apple, and grape juice. Which one would you like?" Remy offered.

"Grape, please," Git said.

Remy headed to the refrigerator and carried the bottle of grape juice, poured it onto their wine glasses, and gave one to Git. "A votre santé," they said as they clinked their glasses together. They both took a sip and let out a sigh of relief.

"Since this is just a juice, you wouldn't have to see me drunk again," Remy said.

"Don't worry about it," Git said as he sipped his drink. "By the way, may I stay here for dinner today?"

"Uh-huh," Remy said, a little excited. "But I do want to take a walk."

"Where and when?" Git asked.

"Not very far, just around the neighborhood. Wanna walk with me after we finish our breakfast?" Remy offered.

"Take your time. Also, should we also bring some picnic?" Git suggested.

"I think I prepare them. But I want to make this small," Remy said.

"I'll still help you," Git offered.

"That would be very nice of you," Remy let out a gentle smile.

"Aren't I always nice?" Git asked with a sly smile.

Remy smiled and rolled his eyes.

"What? It is true! That was a rhetorical question!" Git said delightfully.

"What am I going to do without you?" Remy snickered.

"Was that a rhetorical question?" Git asked playfully.

"Definitely. Now I need to find a small basket that should be our size." Remy started to dig through in the storage. "Is it here? No... Nope not this one... Huh, I remember Linguini buying one for me in case I need a basket for myself... where did I put it... oh, oh yes! Here it is!" Remy walked out of the storage as he carried the basket that was almost as big as Remy's whole body.

Remy hummed as he stuffed the picnic basket with bread, cheese, and grapes. He put it over his head as he headed out with Git following along.

"Why does everything feel so fresh after my fever?" Remy asked himself as he sniffed the air in deeply.

"I guess it happens to everyone. I felt the same way," Git answered. "Are you sure you don't want me to hold the basket?"

"Nah, it's fine," Remy replied, "you've already done enough for me."

"Well, if you say so," Git said, then with sly smile across his face he said, "And you just admitted that I am a nice, helpful, and friendly rat."

"Oh, all right, you're the nicest one," Remy said as he if was trying to pacify a little kid. He's such a little kid... Remy thought as he smiled and looked around the neighborhood.

"The neighborhood seems nice even in the afternoon," Git said as he looked around, "I always see this street during the night. It's good to take this walk."

"With the nice sunshine and cool winter breeze," Remy said as he closed his eyes and let his whiskers flutter in the breeze, "it's so refreshing."

"You must like the cold weather," Git said.

"It's a sign that Christmas is coming near," Remy said, "my favorite day of the year." Then he looked at the street lights. "Looks like humans are starting to decorate already."

"Looks like it," Git said in agreement, "it looks much better than the decoration that the crazy lady's place we used to live in."

They continued to wander around everywhere in the street, in the alley, in the small holes on the buildings, literally everywhere. They did not seem to miss any spot in their neighbor. After looking around everywhere in their neighbor, they decided to take a picnic on the roof of the building that they visited last. Although the picnic was mostly pieces of bread, some blocks of cheese, and grapes, it was rather very enjoyable with the nice view, refreshing breeze, warm sunshine, and more importantly, they were eating with someone they were romantically attracted to.

"This picnic is pretty pleasant," Git said, "don't you think?"

"Mm, it is," Remy nodded in agreement. Then Git scooched next to him to wrap his arm around Remy. "Don't you think that's too cliché now?"

"I know you like it," Git said slyly.

"Well, I guess," Remy replied as he leaned against his chest.

********

By the time they headed back home, it was around 3:48.

"Wow, we have been out for quite a long time," Git said as he looked at the clock.

"What should we do now?" Remy asked.

"Just sit down and relax," Git suggested. "If you want."

"We can do that, let's sit on the couch and listen to music," Remy said. Git nodded.

Remy went up to the shelf to grab CD for accordion music and played it on a CD player. They both sat on a couch to relax.

"What an ideal day," Remy said, "having breakfast with you, taking a walk with you, dancing with you, oh..."

"I'll let you have this kind of ideal day for rest of your life," Git said.

"Thank you for your thought," Remy said, "but I still want to work. So Sundays and bank holidays would be nice."

"What about Saturdays?" Git asked.

"On those days, you'd take me somewhere," Remy replied with a charming smile.

Git smiled back, and then said tenderly, "Thanks for making me a happy rat."

"I want to say the same thing to you," Remy said as he wrapped his arms around Git's waist. Git warmly stroke his back. They had such pleasant time together as they talked and laughed that they didn't notice that the sun was already setting. Git and Remy's stomachs growled at the same time. "Well, I guess it's time for me to prepare dinner now," Remy said as he got up to walk to the kitchen to prepare dinner. "What do you want for dinner?"

"The shrimp dish you cooked me last time," Git said, "I'm kinda craving shrimp."

"All right, then," Remy said as he grabbed the bag of shrimp, some butter, some garlic cloves, a bottle of parsley, and a bottle of basil.

"Did you try adding that to your menu yet?" Git asked.

"Not yet," Remy replied as he started to heat up the frying pan. "But I will. I mean, it is a good recipe, but so far, there has not been any requests for new menu."

"I see," Git said, "well, I'm looking forward to it!" Remy smiled and spread butter and garlic on the frying pan. Since he is too small to carry a frying pan, he didn't let his hands and spoon take a break as he had to stir so much as if he was trying to make out a taste that only comes out from flipping frying pan. As soon as the butter was melted enough and the scent of garlic permeated the frying pan, he lowered the fire level to medium and carefully stirred shrimp on the frying pan. The stirring force and the timing is very important for cooking, Remy thought as he modestly grilled the shrimp. If shrimp is cooked too long, it becomes dry and crumbling. When he felt that the shrimps were cooked for enough time, he turned the stove off, gently placed the shrimps on the separate plate, and served it to Git. Git waited until Remy was done preparing his meal.

"You know, you didn't have to wait," Remy said as he returned.

"It's a common manner to wait for people," Git replied. As soon as Remy sat down and picked up the utensils, Git quickly dug in and swallowed before Remy knowing it.

"Git, no one is gonna take your food," Remy said as he watched how fast Git was eating. But it didn't matter to Git. Soon, his plate was empty. He gently placed the fork on the empty plate and burped. Remy smiled and shook his head tenderly. "You really love my cooking, don't you?"

"I would eat them everyday," Git said sat back and put his hands on his back.
