Chapitre 19 : Une Petite Surprise
Remy joyfully stirred the pot with pride as he watched Git, surrounded by bunch of other baby rats who were dangling on his arms, amazed by his muscles. Another typical day. Remy thought as he decorated the dishes. When Git was done playing with the other baby rats, he peeked over Remy, who was distracted by boiling pots and sizzling meat. He whispered something to Emile and exited the bistro.
After lunch rush, he decided to take a break since little or no customers come after the lunch rush. When he stepped outside to take a quick break, he noticed that Git was not there. So he walked up to Emile to ask.
"Emile," Remy called, "have you seen Git anywhere?"
"You miss him already?" Emile asked teasingly.
"Just tell me where he is," Remy said, a little annoyed.
"He went to the colony for a second," Emile replied, "he said he needed to do something before the closing hour."
"What did he need or want to do?" Remy asked.
"I don't know, he didn't tell me. He just said that he needed to go to the colony to do something and didn't tell me," Emile replied. Then he examined the sky. The clouds were gray, and thick. The sky looked like it was ready to pour. "Do you think it will rain today?"
"Possibly," Remy said as he looked up at the sky also.
"I'll just stay here until it starts to rain," Emile said, as he was chewing his food and looking at the sky.
"Whatever you want," Remy said as he started to walk back in. He waited until the dinner rush started. I wonder what he needs to do. He thought as he waited. He was still concerned for his reaction after his nightmare. I hope he is okay. After thinking for awhile, he started to wash some vegetables to get prepared for dinner rush.
When dinner rush started, the rain started to pour on the street, the thunder roared, and the lightning zapped through the sky. He remembered one time he tried to cook his mushroom on the roof with Emile and got electrocuted. I still want to try that with saffron. Remy thought as he looked at the stormy sky. Then he decided to pull himself together and go back to work. But then he started to worry about Git again, and this time for two reasons: his reaction after the nightmare, and how he can walk with him in the rainy weather. Maybe I should just walk by myself today. He probably need some time.
After the dinner rush, Remy helped Linguini and Colette clean up the kitchen. It was around 8:45 when they finished cleaning up. Although the closing hour was forty-five minutes ago, there were more customers than usual so that they had more things to clean up and wait until the customers finished their dishes. Remy stretched as he headed out to leave. He was surprised that it stopped raining. After all of that crazy storm, the sky was peaceful and quiet. Maybe I should just wait for him. He might come. Remy thought as he waited and gazed at the sky. Although the stars weren't visible due to all the clouds, Remy still admired the sky as the cloud looked very fluffy. It looks like cotton candy. He thought as he examined the cloud. He sat quietly, alone, patiently waiting for Git to come.
After some time, Remy suddenly said in a friendly tone, "Don't you dare," without looking back. Git stood right next to him.
"Wow, you're such a psychic," Git said, "I can't even surprise you anymore."
"Try some other way to surprise me," Remy said playfully.
Git smiled and helped him up. They started to walk together through the wet road. Instead of holding his hand, Git locked his arm around Remy's arm so he wouldn't slip.
"Such a gentleman," Remy complimented. Git smiled. "Are you feeling better now?"
"Mm-hmm," Git said as he nodded, "It went pretty quickly,"
"So what did you do after the lunch break?" Remy asked, out of curiosity.
"It's a secret."
"Hey, there's supposed to be no secrets between us!"
"It's a good secret, don't worry about it."
Remy didn't say more. He was sulking and crossed his arms, but tried to not let Git noticed it. Then out of nowhere, the rain started to fall again.
"Weather is pretty strange today," Remy said, then groaned, "Ugh, I really didn't want to get soaked today."
"Hold on a moment," Git said as he walked away to find a giant leaf to keep them dry from the rain. Remy walked into a dry place until Git found a leaf that would be big enough to cover both of them from the rain. He returned quickly with a leaf over his head. Then he covered Remy with the large leaf he brought and started to walk with him.
"Stay close, Remy," Git said as he walked along with him. Remy then put his arms around Git's waist and continued to walk with him. As they continued to walk, Remy started to sulk less than earlier. Although the weather was cold, Remy was able to stay warm as he was holding on to him. While walking, Remy felt something wet on Git's waist. The leaf didn't cover them both whole. Some raindrops were still hitting Git's shoulder and dripping down his waist and some parts of his back. After several minutes of walking through the rain, they reached his home.
"May I stay with you until for a while?" Git asked. Remy smiled and nodded.
"What would you like to eat?" Remy asked.
"Anything that would warm my body," Git replied. So Remy boiled some clam chowder, poured it on a bread bowl he made, and served it.
"Ooh, so brilliant!" Git said as he looked at the bowl-shaped bread.
"I'm just lazy to wash dishes," Remy explained.
"And you never get tired of cooking, don't you?" Git asked impishly.
"Pretty much," Remy replied with much pride. The soup felt much warmer after the walk in such cold and wet weather.
"Thank you for walking with me in such weather," Remy said as he continued to eat.
"No need to be thankful," Git said, "I like walking with you. Weather doesn't matter. So how was your day today in your bistro?"
"Can't complain, there were more diners than usual," Remy replied as he swallowed his mouthful. The he suddenly remembered, "so about the secret..."
"I'll let you know after dinner," Git replied without any trace of hesitation.
What is it that he's hiding from me? Remy thought. Well, at least he's going to tell me. So let's wait for it. So they continued to dine peacefully. Even after dinner, they didn't feel warm enough, so Remy decided to fix them two warm cups of hot cocoa with few marshmallows floating. They both took a sip, and sighed passionately as they savored the taste.
"How surprising," Git said, "I never knew so many different types of food can make people feel better. Rats only eat to survive."
"Yeah," Remy said, "this is why I love to eat and cook different kinds of food. They're like works of art, you know?" Git nodded and stood up.
"Now that you made me feel better," Git said as he stood up, "time for me to surprise you! Close your eyes, and don't open them till I get back." Remy shrugged slightly and closed his eyes. Git quickly walked out, grabbed something and quickly came back in.
"Can I open them?" Remy asked as he heard Git's footsteps.
"Yes," Git said. When Remy opened his eyes, he saw a small, fluffy teddy bear. Remy was a little confused of why Git would give him something when they it was not a special occasion. "I asked this one rat lady who has a lot of children to knit one for you. It took a long time for her to make a really cute one, so I ended up coming late. I also had to give her some food for her and her children for a payment. I asked her to make one so that I can give this to you so that you can cuddle it while you sleep. After my nightmare, I don't want you to experience the same thing I did. You have a lot of things to do. Cuddling soft things reduces the chances of having nightmare. After all you've been through, I can't let you have further emotional problems," Git explained and confessed the whole situation.
Remy held the teddy bear under his chin, smiling, his eyes a little watery. Even when he was a little kid, he wasn't able to get one of these because neither his dad nor Emile was interested that he wouldn't dare come up with it. Even though Git didn't know that, he seemed to understand how Remy would feel, so he gently embraced him. Remy said nothing. He was still holding the bear under his chin as his face was buried into Git's stomach.
A/N: Such sweet scene to imagine... I'm jealous of Remy and Git now. Sure they do have an argument sometimes, but their relationship is going pretty well! Plus, Django and Emile are okay with the relationship, so there's really no one bothering their relationship! Stay tuned for more chapters!
Today, when I first published this chapter, 6/29/2017, is the 10th anniversary of the movie Ratatouille. Feel old yet? I first watched this movie in my junior year in high school, about nine years after it came out, and I fell in love with it! And I said to myself, "Wow, I was missing out on my childhood so much!" Even though I was disappointed that I didn't watch this movie earlier, I'm still extremely glad that this movie became part of my late teenage life.
