Chapitre 11: Tout est Bien Qui Finit Bien

When Remy calmed down, he realized that although Remy does have a place to stay, Git would not have anywhere else to go.

"Would you like to stay at my place?" Remy blubbered as his tears were still not gone.

"I'll just... stay for the night..." Git said.

"You can stay as long as you need to," Remy said.

"Now come on, I don't want you to take care of me when you already have so much things to take care of," Git said. "I'll... be able to find some place to rest tomorrow. You know me, Remy, I am a strong, independent rat after all. I can handle this."

"But whenever you need an actual place to stay, please talk to me. All right?" Remy asked. Git nodded delightfully. They both went in so that they can rest.

"Do you want anything to eat?" Remy asked.

"Are you going to eat?" Git asked.

"I... I have no appetite," Remy replied weakly.

"I'm not eating unless you are," Git insisted.

"Let's just... call it for a day..." Remy said. "I just feel emotionally exhausted right now..."

"Yes, go to sleep," Git agreed. Remy climbed to his bed, rolled himself in his blanket, and lied on his left side, where he could see the night view and the Eiffel Tower. He closed his eyes so that can help him sleep. Even Git stayed silent so that he can watch Remy fall asleep. He was going to sleep after he sees Remy fall into deep sleep.

Despite all the atmosphere that Remy needed to sleep, he still was not able to fall asleep. He rolled around his bed for quite some time. Git watched him rolling around like a cylinder jar rolling everywhere. "Can't sleep?" Git asked.

"Oh, you're still awake?" Remy asked as he sat up.

"I was going to watch you fall asleep and then sleep," Git said.

"I don't think I can fall asleep really... something is just not comfortable..." Remy said.

"Do you want a cuddle?" Git suggested. "If not, it's totally fine. I figured you might need a bit more comfort."

"I think it won't hurt to try," Remy accepted the offer. Git walked over to Remy's bed and wrapped his arms around Remy.

"Remy..." Git said in a low tone.

"Hm?" Remy responded as his face was buried in Git's fur.

"I just wanted to say... things will turn out better," Git said. "I know, it may not seem so, but trust me. Everything will take time. Your father's view, our relationship, everything. It will take time for him to understand. We just don't know when he will, but keep in mind that he is not going to abandon you, ever."

"Hopefully," Remy replied. "By the way, if you need to sleep, please do so. I don't want you to not sleep just because I can't..."

"All right, but if you need something from me, wake me up," Git let out his last words before his eyelids shut. Remy did feel a lot better as he was cuddled by Git. He was so warm, and his scent was satisfying. Git started to snore but it was not unpleasant. He did snore like middle-aged rat, but it sounded like a music people used to meditate. With the cuddling comfort and a pleasant sound in his eardrums, Remy closed his eyes and drifted into sleep.

********

When Remy woke up, it was still dark. Git was still cuddling him and his vision was directly to him. When he loosened himself gently from Git so that he does not wake up, he felt the warmth of the ray of sunlight caressing his chin. What time is it...? Remy asked himself in his head. 6:05. He walked to the bathroom to take a bath since he got a bit of relaxation. He filled the sink with a hot water, hot enough that Remy can go in and stay relaxed. He dunk his whole body in the water and let out a deep sigh or relief, hoping to release more stress he was carrying in his brain and on his shoulders.

Normally, whenever he took a bath, he would feel much better and reflex a smile across his muzzle, but this time, with all the concern sprinting around in his head and the pressure pushing him down on his shoulder, hot water did not seem to cheer him up. He got out, dried himself, and prepared to go to work.

Git woke up when the sun was in the center of the sky. He wiped his drool, sat up and stretched as he yawned loud. He smacked his mouth and scratched the lower part of his back. When he rubbed his eyes and looked around, he realized Remy was not there. "I guess he went to work..." Git said to himself. He quickly jumped out of the bed and headed to Remy's bistro.

At the bistro, everyone greeted Git like they always would. I guess Emile and sir Django did not tell anyone about our relationship yet... he thought as he greeted everyone back. Django was not present today, but Emile was. He tried to greet Emile, but he avoided Git's eye contact.

"Emile, why are you ignoring me?" Git asked.

"I... I... uh..." Emile stuttered, still not looking at him in the eye. A drop of cold sweat ran down his cheek and dropped from his chin.

"What is it? Come on, you can tell me," Git tried hard to sound gentle.

"I just feel bad..." Emile said. "This is all my fault. I told dad that you guys are..."

"Wait!" Git alerted. Emile covered his mouth before he spat out the rest of the words. "Come this way, where nobody can hear us." They sneaked out of the bistro and climbed under the grate.

Emile continued, "I told dad you guys are dating and now, neither you nor Remy are welcome. I wanted to tell dad that he should accept them but..." Teardrops started to run down from Emile's eyes. "...but I was too scared... scared to talk to him, I tried to speak to Remy this morning but I feel so bad... his cooking received so many complaints today and... now I feel bad talking to you... I know I have no rights to feel stressed but... it feels like I'm being crushed in the middle..." He continued to weep. Git was not angry at him. Even though it slipped out of his mouth, he still could not blame Emile for that.

"I told Remy this, but things will turn out okay," Git said. "We don't know how long it'll take but things will be back the way it was. Only difference would be Remy and my relationship."

"You think so...?" Emile asked as he sniffed and wiped the rest of the tears out of his eyes and cheeks.

"Guaranteed," Git said. "Now calm down here until you're ready to come back to the bistro. It should be lunch break for Remy by now. I need to be there for him." He then climbed up the grate, up to the bistro, and quietly met Remy.

"Did you sleep well?" Remy asked as Git came in, trying very hard to smile so that he can cover his frown that he was stuck with since the day when Emile figured out that they are in a relationship.

"I did, you should've woken me up," Git said with a gentle smirk across his chin. Remy felt better looking at him, but he just could not stay happy for more than five seconds.

"You were sleeping so well that I did not want to wake you up," Remy said. Git chuckled instead of replying. "Did you need something? Want me to whip you up an omelette or stir you a pasta?"

"No, I just wanted to check in with you to see if you're doing fine," Git said.

"Oh, I'm doing fine. Even there were more complaints than usual, it was fine," Remy reported honestly.

"You almost never have complaints except for the time you first-served your chicken steak," Git said. He immediately regretted what he said after seeing Remy's eyes sparkle due to the tears. He embraced him and whispered into his ears, "I'm so sorry..." almost every twenty seconds. Remy hugged him tighter as he cried louder.

Git took Remy home after the bistro closed. Django still did not come. Remy offered to stay with him, but Git kindly denied the offer.

"Where will you stay?" Remy asked.

"I'll think of someplace, or find them," Git said as if it was natural. "Don't worry about me. I will be fine."

Remy was speechless. He stepped up to him to get a hug from him. Git caressed his head as Remy held him tight. Before they completely withdrew, Git laid a kiss on Remy's forehead. Without speaking further, they parted. Remy went back inside and went straight to the bed. He did not feel like eating. Git decided to stay at the bistro and squeeze himself in the area where humans cannot see him.

This has gone on for days. After the third day when Django kicked him out for good, while Remy was scooping up the Ratatouille and smearing the sauce on the plate, he lost his conscious and collapsed. He fell off of his counter and dropped down to the floor. Linguini and Colette were shocked by him fainting.

"Little chef!" Linguini and Colette ran to him. Remy was breathing heavily on Linguini's palm. Linguini had to close the bistro for the remainder of the day as he announced that the chef fainted, and they won't be open either tomorrow.

After Remy fainting, the words were spread out quickly. It got to Emile and Git first. Emile sobbed as he put his hands over his face, believing that it's his fault. Git tried to not panic. He knew that the more he panicked, the worse the situation is going to get. Soon, the news got spread to every rat in the colony and few rats even reported to Django.

"Django! Remy fainted while working!" One male rat reported.

"He seemed pretty stressed lately, what happened to him?" One female rat asked.

Django was shocked to hear Remy fainting. "How... how is he...?"

"After the humans took care of him, he was better," the same male rat said.

"Don't you need to go check up on him...?" the same female rat asked.

"I'm sure he's fine," Django said as he excused himself.

When the sun of the next day rose from the horizon, everyone stayed at the colony and talked about the situation when Remy fainted. It was the issue of the topic.

Django was still in his area, lying on his side, switching sides every minute, and letting out a deep sight once in a while. He could not sleep at all last night. He was so concerned about Remy's health. I cannot believe he fainted... it seems real since everyone is talking about it... But also at the same time, he was furious that Remy was in a relationship with a male rat. His son is totally different than his mind was full of boiling lava, ready to erupt from his head. How dare he... he thought as he gritted his teeth. Even with the fury, there was a small portion of his head, trying to cool down his fury. But... it something he cannot control... Django kept thinking. "I can't just abandon Remy," Django said to himself as his thought came out of his mouth. "He... he's still my son. I cannot just abandon him for being different from who I am... but I don't even agree with his feeling towards... oh!" He grunted and mumbled to himself as his heart was filled with frustration. He stood up and called Emile. He was going to settle things right.

********

Emile went to Git to tell him, "Dad wants to talk to you tonight, with Remy."

"Remy too?" Git asked. He wondered what made Django want to talk to them.

"Go tell Remy about it too? I'm sure you're better at communicating with him," Emile requested. Without any problem, Git took the request and went to Remy's house to pick him up.

"I'm not sure if this is going to work out," Remy said.

"We'll be fine, Remy," Git said gently. "Everything will work out, I promise."

Remy was happy that Git did not express an ounce of frustration with him. When they arrived at the colony, Django had the seats ready for them. Emile was there too, who was awkwardly waving at them. Remy and Git sat, knowing that Django would tell them to sit anyways.

Django stayed quiet for a while, letting out several deep sighs. Remy and Git became nervous and their hearts beat harder and faster every time Django breathed heavily.

Finally, he opened his mouth and asked, "So... when did this start?"

"Not too long ago," Remy said.

"Probably like, two weeks ago." Git added cautiously.

Django sighed in frustration as he put his hands over his forehead. Remy and Git both looked at each other briefly, then looked at Django, and then at the ground. Emile looked at all three briefly. There was a long moment of silence.

"Are you guys true about your feelings towards each other?" Django asked calmly.

"Yes," Remy and Git said not so confidently.

"All right," Django said as he sighed with a frown upon his eyebrows, "You guys may go ahead and continue your relationship. But that does not mean I agree on anything yet."

"All right," Remy and Git replied, feeling much more relieved than before the conversation.

"Git, you may take him home," Django said. "And you can start staying here again."

"Yes, sir," Git said. Then they both headed back. But this time, they were kept a distance until they were out of Django's sight.

"Dad?" Emile started cautiously, "This might sound ridiculous but I think we should step out of their relationship... y'know... leave them alone?"

"I know, Emile," Django said understandingly, "Just give me some time. This never happened to rats before, so I was just bewildered for a moment. I will try to understand as long as Git can make Remy happy. He'd better."

Git and Remy took a quiet walk rather than a fun walk. They were standing in front of the door before they knew it. Before going in, Remy turned to Git and said, "I guess you were right. It did turn out better than I thought."

"Yeah," Git said encouragingly, "Let's just give him some time." Remy nodded. Then they embraced each other for quite a long time before Remy went in. "I promise that your father wouldn't mind too much about our relationship. Maybe he'll agree on it! So let's not worry anything about our relationship yet. Okay? I promise." Remy nodded and quietly went inside the apartment, at least he felt much more relaxed than before. Git walked back to his colony as he made sure that Remy went back in.

Remy and Git climbed up to their bed at their own places, looked at their rings, and let out a deep breath. When time passes, he'll eventually understand. They both thought as they fell into sleep.
