Kneeling During the National Anthem
(I think I mentioned this in the second chapter, but I'm from Arkansas.)
Tonight (11/3/16) at the Lady Razorbacks basketball game (Razorbacks are the team at the University of Arkansas) some of the team kneeled during the national anthem. I saw this on Facebook, and people were pissed.
I fully support people kneeling during the national anthem. We are Americans, and we have freedom of speech. Colin Kaepernick did a good job coming up with this peaceful form of protest.
People were commenting that they "obviously don't respect soldiers or America!!!1!!" But?? That's not why they're doing it?? Do some research first??
I'm positive that they weren't in the locker room, standing around, and one of them went, "You know what? I really hate soldiers; let's kneel because of them."
No. They are kneeling because of police brutality, and that so many people are dying every day for nothing more than the color of their skin, and there is absolutely no reason that this should be happening in 2016.
There were also people saying that they should have their scholarships revoked (since they most likely have athletic scholarships) because "they signed a contract."
Um.
I don't think that contract specifically said that they weren't allowed to kneel during the national anthem. That would be such a specific and strange thing to put in a contract.
The thing about living in Arkansas is that people will get super offended if you try "taking away" their 2nd Amendment rights, but the minute someone uses their 1st Amendment right of freedom of speech, they go ballistic.
I had to get off Facebook because all these people were giving me a headache, and I needed to rant about it.
(I wrote this all before Colin Kaepernick said he didn't vote)
