TNA
I don't currently watch TNA/GFW/Impact/Whatever the heck it's called. I've never watched it for long periods of time, for one reason or another.
However, I figured I'd talk about the short amount of time (like 1-2 months) I decided to watch it a few years ago (for some reason, I can't remember when this was. 2013, I think?).
Since this was over a period of time, I'm not going to remember EVERYTHING, but I'll talk about what I do remember.
Since I didn't continue watching, I'd love to get some of y'all's insight of storylines/wrestlers. Maybe my opinion is wrong, or I just misunderstand a storyline. Leave some comments!
Okay, here we go.
So, I know TNA has a few different championships, but the only champions I remember from this time are Austin Aries (who was X Division Champion), and ODB + Eric Young (who were Knockouts Tag Team Champions).
I honestly found it really amusing that Eric Young was holding a women's title.
At the time, I was just starting to get annoyed with how WWE was treating their women (or should I say, Divas), so I thought it was super awesome that TNA not only gave the women more time, but they had more than one title for them.
I don't remember who the main champion (I guess TNA Champion? World Champion?) was because they weren't involved in the main storyline.
At the time, over in WWE, they had a storyline going on where AJ Lee and John Cena had some kinda forbidden affair going on.
So, I guess TNA wanted to counter that with their own forbidden affair storyline. But for some reason, it had to include the greatest wrestler in the whole world, AJ Styles.
AJ was sleeping with some lady named Claire Lynch? And Dixie Carter was making it a big deal. For some reason, I couldn't figure out why it was a big deal. I still don't; as far as I know, Claire didn't even work for TNA or anything, so I'm still confused. If there's more to this that I don't understand, please let me know.
I guess AJ got Claire pregnant (I guess that's why it was so bad?), but then it turned out she was faking? I don't know, but this whole thing turned me off from the show, and I haven't watched much since.
But that's not the end of it! Here's more stuff that happened.
Abyss was missing, I think. There was some lawyer/attorney looking for him (I don't remember why). I don't remember if I stuck around long enough to see if Abyss ever showed up. I think lawyer guy + Abyss might have been related, but I'm not sure.
Just a random segment I remember. At the time, TNA was still on Spike, so they had some kinda tie-in with another show. It included a tag team (two guys, and I think a girl? I seem to think it was Zelina Vega, but I'm not 100% sure), and they were outside the arena. The Spike show was some kinda trivia/game show, so they were asking the tag team questions.
I think I might've actually checked out the show (I think it aired when the episode ended).
I clearly remember Samoa Joe being there. He was in a tag team with someone, but I can't remember who it was. I don't know how long the tag team lasted or how long they'd been together.
I also remember Alex Shelley (I don't remember if he was part of MCMG, or if he was by himself). I thought he was hella cool. He was probably one of my favorite people.
There was also a guy, but I don't remember his name. He apparently had a really bad neck/back injury (he might've been paralyzed at some point? I'm not sure). They would give us an update on him each week. They were still giving updates when I stopped watching; I hope he's okay.
And here is what I thought was the most interesting.
At the time, TNA had some sort of contest going on where an unsigned wrestler (I think it was usually an indie wrestler, but I'm not sure) would essentially get a tryout match with someone already in TNA, and three judges (I think one was Al Snow?) would decide whether they would get signed.
I only saw two people.
The first one was a lady, and I cannot remember her name (but I've seen her a few times since). She had red hair (not natural; it's a dark red, like Riot!-era Hayley Williams), and I know she's still an indie wrestler.
The other person I remember was a pretty cool guy by the name of Joey Ryan. This was the first time I had ever heard of him.
What happened with him was this: he got the tryout, but he didn't get signed. That should be the end of it, right? Wrong. He kept showing up every week, bothering the judges, like "Hey guys, sign me!! I won't leave you alone until you do!!"
I don't know if he ever got signed, but years later, when I was first discovering Candice LeRae, I found out that together, they are the World's Cutest Tag Team, and I was like, "Hey, I remember him! He was in TNA!"
And that's what I remember from this period of time.
However, I watched 1-2 more episodes at a later time, about 2014-2015?
I only remember, like, two things though.
I saw EC3 for the first time. I don't remember what he did, but I did think he was cute lmao.
The other thing: I guess TNA has some kind of weird match where you have to get a briefcase, and there's 3-4. Most of them give you title opportunities, but one of them fires you? It was really weird, but I saw an episode where people were opening their briefcases, and Chavo Guerrero got the one that fired you, and he was just fired.
I was like "wtf??" and I stopped watching lmao
After that, they ended up changing channels, and I don't think I got the channel it came on, so I haven't watched anything since.
The only recent stuff I know about is the Broken Hardys stuff + Rosemary having awesome matches with (I think) Jade. That's it. I know nothing else.
I'm ending the chapter here.
But let me know if you remember any of this, and if you have names for anyone I don't know, let me know. :)
