Royal Rumble 2020 Review (part one)

The Royal Rumble is probably my favorite PPV of the year, and this year was definitely no exception.  There were very few bad spots or things I disliked about it, which makes it a win in my book.

I'm gonna split this review up into two parts: part one is gonna be all the non-Rumble matches, and part two will be the Rumble matches themselves.

Also, just a note: I watched this with my mom, so I'll probably include things she said too lmao. Like this: she asked me if Chris Jericho was gonna be in the Rumble, but she forgot his name and called him the "little bit of the bubbly guy" lmaoo, I had to tell her he was in AEW and would not be on this PPV.

Okay, before I get to the matches, let me just say that I did kinda watch the pre-show.  And by that, I mean I put it on, but it was more like background noise while I scrolled through Twitter, trying not to cry as I read all the tweets about Kobe Bryant and his daughter.  RIP.

So I will not be talking about the pre-show matches, as I did not pay any attention to them.  I will say, I did watch R-Truth show up when some of them were talking, and he thought he was in the Rumble, and that it was happening right at that moment lol

Anyway, on to the matches.

Roman Reigns vs. King Corbin
Falls Count Anywhere Match

Okay, so we had some technical difficulties during this, and I missed the first 10-15 minutes of this match.  However, what I did get to see was a lot of fun.

I've been over this feud since it started, but I liked this match.  Hopefully, they're finished with this feud?  I sure hope so.

Like I said, I missed most of this match, so I don't remember too many spots.  I know I was disappointed when Corbin came out of the Port-a-Potty and wasn't even covered in shit.  How'd he manage to do that??

I did like the ending.  I thought Roman pinning Corbin on top of the dugout was a unique way to end the match.

Bayley vs. Lacey Evans
SmackDown Women's Championship Match

Man, I just was not into this match.

I haven't been all that into Bayley since she turned heel + I kinda got bored of Lacey once she got to the main roster.  I liked her in NXT (I literally wrote a book about her), but she's just not doing it for me on the main roster.

So I don't know what kinda look Bayley is trying to go for when she comes out to the ring, but she just looks really sad.  Is she trying to look determined?  Or something else?  She just seems sad, and it's kinda weird, especially when she ends up winning the match.

This might just be me, but I kinda wish Bayley had yelled at Lacey's kid more lmao, I would've liked the match more.

I had this feeling they were gonna put this match after the men's Rumble; they just like doing Bayley dirty like that.  They did this with her SummerSlam match against Ember Moon, too.  They put it in a bad spot on the card, and the crowd was tired and didn't care (also they didn't build Ember up enough for people to care, but that's a complaint for another time).

I do like Lacey's moonsaults, and I thought she did them well in this match, but other than that?  The only other thing I remember happening was Bayley's elbow drop near the beginning of the match.

This match wasn't bad or anything, it just didn't feel like a PPV match.  It felt like something you'd see on an episode of SmackDown.  I think they need to stop giving Lacey big matches, maybe send her back to NXT.  She's okay, but not all that great.  She shouldn't be in title matches.

The Fiend vs. Daniel Bryan
Strap Match for the Universal Championship

So this match let me know that I do not like strap matches.

I had never seen a strap match before this, so this is the first one I've ever seen.  I'm not a fan.

Half the match was just them whipping each other with the strap?  It wasn't fun to watch, and I honestly found it a bit boring.

That might just be me idk

I think the only spot I really liked was Daniel Bryan using the strap for the Yes Lock (not gonna try to spell the real name of it lmao).  The rest of it all kinda blended into one, and I can't remember much else except Bryan kicking The Fiend in the balls ha

I feel like there might be a reason that WWE hadn't done one of these matches in a while.

Becky Lynch vs. Asuka
Raw Women's Championship Match

I REALLY liked this match.

These two have awesome matches whenever they're in the ring together: last year's Rumble, both of the TLC matches, and this match right here.

I also liked the story leading up to it, how Becky wanted to face Asuka again so she could finally beat her.

And the match!  This was my favorite non-Rumble match of the night.  These two can go, and it was awesome to watch.

I personally preferred their match at last year's Rumble, but this one was really really good too.

It was a very hard-hitting match, probably because that's Asuka's style, and Becky wanted to match it.

I liked the ending, when Becky kicked the green mist out of Asuka's mouth, and she spit it everywhere.

I do hope that after this, the tag team champs can actually defend their titles?  I'm hoping for Kabuki Warriors/IIconics at Mania, but I guess we'll just see.

Anyway, 10/10 would recommend.

Street Profits

Okay, this wasn't a match, but I just wanted to say that I was very impressed by Angelo Dawkins and his beat boxing lmao

I really think these guys should be challenging for the tag team titles, but as long as I get to see them on my TV, I'm good.
