Roman Reigns
Even if you haven't watched Raw yet, you know what this chapter is going to be about. I'm not going to explain it to you.
I'm at a loss for words, yet I still want to talk about it. It's very confusing.
Going into Raw last night, I was annoyed. It had nothing to do with Roman; it was about Evolution and the lack of effort WWE put into booking and planning it, but that's a rant for another time.
The show starts, and Roman Reigns is walking out. I think nothing of it; he's the Universal Champion, why wouldn't he be on Raw?
(Apparently, there were reports that he and Alexa Bliss were injured this weekend, but I only just found out about those late last night)
I was live-tweeting the show last night, and my first two tweets were "Roman looks good tonight" (almost put the heart eye emoji lol) and then "Wait what."
Like, I went from thirsting over this man to just being real sad.
He started talking, and then he was like "My name is Joe." I thought this was going to be some kind of promo like the "This is Phil Brooks talking to Paul Levesque" one from a few years ago, but... it wasn't. He went on to say he has leukemia, and my heart just dropped.
I just sat there, trying to figure out if this was actually real, and then he vacated the title and left it in the ring, and yes, it was real.
Before I could fully process what had just happened, Seth and Dean came out. Y'all, I wasn't crying until I saw Seth's face. I saw Dean's first, and I could tell he was holding back tears, and then I saw Seth's, and you could tell he had already been crying and wow
There is just so much going through my head right now. This isn't going to be very organized, so I apologize in advance.
First of all, Roman has a family. He's got a wife, he's got kids, and they're going to have to deal with their dad having cancer. I can't possibly imagine having to go through something like that.
And then someone on Twitter pointed out that he just lost his brother last year, and now his parents have to deal with their other son having cancer. Just... wow.
If you've been following me for a while, you probably think I hate Roman Reigns, but allow me to explain.
Any time I've ranted about him, he was either facing someone I absolutely love (AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, Cesaro) or he was facing someone I don't like/care about (Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman), and I wasn't going to watch the match no matter who they faced.
I am not one of those people who thinks he can't wrestle, though. He's had great matches with AJ Styles and Cesaro (even if it seemed like I hated it lmao).
That Shield triple threat? That was awesome. I remember my heart growing three times its size when Roman made sure Seth landed safely on his knee (as he had just returned from injury). That was all us former Shield fangirls could talk about that week.
And then he faced Finn Balor recently, giving him the Universal title rematch he never got. That match was awesome.
And remember last year, when he beat The Undertaker? That match wasn't good lmao, but the night after? When the crowd booed him for 20 minutes straight? He handled that exactly how he should've. He said maybe 4 words, and that was all he needed to say.
I'm not watching Crown Jewel, but it had nothing to do with him (I don't want to get political, so I won't talk about it). I was hoping he'd retain.
Throughout the show, they showed the outpouring of support he was getting from everyone in WWE. Two people stood out to me.
One was Tommaso Ciampa.
He didn't actually say anything, just put some black hearts. But the fact that this guy, probably the biggest heel in the whole company, said anything about it shows you that Roman has had an impact on everybody.
Y'all, Tommaso literally made his profile picture the moment after he attacked Johnny (before he left for the rest of the year). It was Johnny laying on the announce table, heartbroken that his tag team partner had betrayed him.
This man is a dick lmao
And then there was a man not in the WWE: Tama Tonga.
While Tommaso's heel work involves him thinking he's the best in the world, Tama's involves him calling people names and making fun of them.
But even he tweeted his support of Roman.
Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo about how Brock Lesnar is going to win the title back, and he even wished Roman a speedy recovery and everything.
Roman Reigns is probably one of the nicest people in the WWE. Everyone backstage seems to love him, fans were posting videos of them meeting him (he even remembered someone's family); I don't think anyone has a bad thing to say about Joe Anoa'i.
These past few months have been rough for me (personally), and wrestling has given me a distraction, something to focus my attention on. Yeah, I may be complaining about some stuff, but I still love it, and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
I'm heartbroken for Roman Reigns, and I'll be at home waiting for the day he kicks cancer's ass and returns to the biggest pop of all time.
To end: WWE apparently posted this video last night, but I only saw it this morning, and I wanted to make sure y'all saw it, too.
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
(also, just to briefly touch on Dean's heel turn: they were gonna do it at some point. Last night seemed like the best time to do it. He's going to get booed mercilessly. I feel like it wouldn't have had the same impact if they'd waited a week or two. It was unexpected last night, which makes it even better. We're getting an explanation next week, probably, so I'll have more to say then)
