Paige

Before I get to the sadder part of this rant, let me start with a story.

It's the night after WrestleMania 30. At this point in time, I was vaguely aware that NXT was a thing, and it was no longer the reality-game show it had originally been.

However, I knew no one on the show, except for two people: Paige and Emma.

I'm not entirely sure why I knew these names; I'm assuming I had probably seen them floating around on Twitter, around the time of their NXT ArRival match.

Also at this time, I don't think I was aware that the night after Mania was a huge deal. Like, I remember the year before, watching that episode, seeing Dolph Ziggler cash in his MITB briefcase, but still: I didn't know it was a big thing.

So, for whatever reason, I decided to go to sleep early this night. I went to bed before the show started (which, currently, comes on at 7; I think it may have still been 2 hours at this point, so I went to bed about 8).

Anyway, so I'm in bed, but I haven't actually fallen asleep or anything. I think I just didn't feel good. Then randomly, my brother walks in, and I'm confused. And he tells me that I missed a debut.

I was like, "ooh, who was it?" (even though, at this point in time, I knew no indy wrestlers or NXT wrestlers).

He tells me that Paige debuted, and she beat AJ Lee for the Divas Championship.

And... I'm very annoyed that I missed this. This was a once in a lifetime event, and I missed it.

Anyway, here's the rant.

If you read what I put above, then you now know that Paige is injured, and she is no longer able to wrestle.

It's crazy to think this because Paige is only 25, and is younger than a lot of the other women on the main roster. But it's not so crazy when you remember she's been wrestling since she was 13, so she's been in the ring for 12 years of her life. She's been wrestling longer than some of the main roster women. (Becky, Asuka, and Mickie are the only ones who might have been wrestling longer than her; also maybe Natalya, I'm not sure).

This really really sucks for her. I was thinking that 2018 was going to be Paige's year, that she would win the women's title, we'd get feuds with Sasha and Asuka, and everything would be great.

Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case.

The good thing is it seems that the higher-ups like her, so hopefully she can still remain in the WWE. Maybe she could be a trainer down in NXT. If she wants to remain on TV, Daniel Bryan's contract is up later this year; she could become the new SmackDown GM, or even a commentator.

If the WWE decide to do a weekly women's show (like 205 Live), she could commentate their, or be GM.

She could even still be on Raw every week, as a manager for Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. She doesn't have to wrestle.

I feel bad for her that she has to miss the Royal Rumble. Because of her injury, she's already had to miss several other historic matches: Hell in a Cell, MITB, and just the countless times the women got to main event Raw and SmackDown.

(I just randomly thought of Paige vs Ember Moon, and now I'm sad that we won't get to see it)

Paige was a trailblazer for the women's division, long before the Four Horsewomen rose to prominence.

She and Emma had probably the best women's match to date (at that time) at NXT ArRival.

While the main roster had former models (and Natalya), NXT was pushing boundaries by signing indy women in Emma and Paige, as well as actually giving them the chance to show the universe that the women can wrestle.

AJ Lee was also doing this on the main roster (man, I miss her), but being the only one doing it, she wasn't making as much progress as the NXT women were.

Because of Paige and Emma, all eyes were on the NXT women's division when the Four Horsewomen started doing their thing, starting at the first NXT Takeover (Charlotte vs. Natalya).

I'm sure Total Divas would love to have Paige back (this whole thing would make a good storyline), and based on Instagram, it seems that she's trying to start a new business, so hopefully that goes well for her.

Speaking of Instagram...

Here's what we're not gonna do.

These are all comments on pictures from Sasha's account. People are being horrible and blaming her for Paige's injury.

THIS INJURY IS NOT SASHA'S FAULT. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEADS.

(except you, jdavis807; your comment was okay)

I'm just venturing a guess here, but I bet that if this wasn't Sasha and Paige, and it was two of the men, you wouldn't be seeing these types of comments.

When Seth Rollins injured Sting (and ended his career), do you think his Instagram comments were full of filth like this?

I may be looking too much into this, I don't know.

Sasha did a move she's done a million times the same way she's always done it; this was just a freak accident. Even if she doesn't come out and say it, I bet that she feels terrible about what happened to Paige. You don't always need to hear someone apologize in order for the apology to exist.

I wasn't there when Abraham Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, so I didn't hear it, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

And remember: Paige already had back issues/scoliosis. She was more than likely on borrowed time anyway, especially since it says that they put her with Mandy + Sonya so she's not in the ring too much.

(Random thought: if they ever do another Mae Young Classic, I hope they replace Lita with Paige)

I can honestly see Paige being the first person to go through NXT to be inducted into the Hall of Fame (not next year or anything, but one day). She was the first NXT Women's Champion, and until Asuka, she had the longest reign in NXT history (even Finn Balor's reign wasn't as long as hers). She's also a two-time Divas Champion, and is the only person to have held the NXT Women's and Divas Championships at the same time. That enough should get her into the Hall of Fame.

I think I've said everything I have to say. If not, I'll probably write another chapter.

To end: don't come into these comments trying to blame this all on Sasha; I will fight you.
