OCs
Do you ever accidentally force some of your own traits onto your OCs?
I do it all the time, and I never realize it until I've finished writing the chapter and I've read through it.
I run a hand through my hair all the time, because I'm usually shoving it out of my face. Well, I seem to think all of my OCs should do this because I've written it. I always have to keep myself from having them do it more than once in a chapter.
I also have them roll their eyes a lot. Actually, I have everyone roll their eyes a lot. I roll my eyes a lot because I'm surrounded by idiots (well, my brother), so I seem to think everyone else rolls their eyes as much as I do. I literally had Xavier Woods text someone that he was rolling his eyes.
I saw this post on Tumblr (that led me to write this) that went like this:
me while writing: ah yes, this character should do this. it feels so natural with what they're saying.
me while editing: why the FUCK does she lean on a doorway SEVENTEEN TIMES IN THIS CHAPTER
If that is not me, I don't know what is.
I mean, there are times in All I Want when Charlie is talking to BadNewsRollins (*cough*SethRollins*cough*) (if you want to know what that means, you should read the story nudge nudge wink wink) that I just write my own opinion. Her reason for loving Seth Rollins? That's my exact reason.
Back in 2012, when I first wrote The Ballad of Mona Lisa, I pretty much made myself Mona. Like, I stuck myself into a story where both John Cena and CM Punk both wanted me and I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT I'D DONE IT. It seems like I would've done it on purpose, because Mona and Monica are so similar, but I didn't. (I just took her name from the song lol)
None of my current OCs are from the south, which makes it hard when I want to use the word "y'all" because I say that on a daily basis. I actually have to stop and think of what should be used instead of "y'all." My dad's family is from up north (Massachusetts) and I quickly learned from them that they don't say "y'all" up there. xD So I've kinda just assumed it's a southern-exclusive type of thing. (You don't understand how much I love that Xavier Woods is from the south because I can make him say "y'all" as much as I want.)
I'm aware that the alternative is "you guys" but I can't take that seriously because all I can think of is the little squid from Finding Nemo going, "Aw, you guys made me ink!" xD
It's a good thing I don't like the word "ain't" or else I'd be in trouble.
I should be sleeping, so I think I'm going to end this chapter here because I'm quoting Finding Nemo for absolutely no reason.
