John Cena
Unlike my Roman Reigns rant, if you're a fan of John Cena, you can totally read this because I probably won't offend you.
I started watching wrestling in 2010. My very first favorite wrestler was John Cena.
The Nexus debuted on the very first episode I ever watched, so I got to witness them attacking John Cena. I got to witness him trying to destroy The Nexus. He feuded with Wade Barrett. He created that team to take on The Nexus.
I thought John Cena was invincible. No one could touch him. He was the best person ever. I worshiped the ground that man walked on. (Ask Kalina; we were obsessed with this man omg)
And for a whole year and a half, I cared about no one but John Cena.
Then the summer of 2011 happened, and CM Punk dropped that infamous pipebomb. He quickly became my favorite wrestler, and while I still liked John Cena, he started getting on my nerves. Punk had the title, and I just wanted Cena to leave him alone.
And then, eventually, they started putting Cena in storylines I didn't like (specifically, that one with AJ Lee) and I was annoyed with him. I wasn't one of those people chanting "Cena sucks!" at shows, but I wasn't saying "Let's go Cena!" either.
Then, he became United States Champion. At first, I was a little annoyed, because I thought that someone (anyone) deserved that title more than him. I thought that he would do what Roman Reigns is currently doing.
But he didn't. Instead, he started having open challenges for the title, and I absolutely loved them. I got to see my very first Sami Zayn match, when he fought for the belt. Cesaro had that amazing match with him.
I distinctly remember one match. It was Memorial Day, and I had just gotten home from New Orleans. The show had been recording, and it was about an hour into it, so I just started from the beginning. No one was home (for some reason idk why), and I had texted my brother, letting him know that I was watching.
The man facing John Cena that night was Zack Ryder. My brother texted me and told me (since I was about an hour behind) that Zack won and became champion.
So I'm watching this match, freaking out because I think he's going to win. Then Cena pins him, wins, and that's it. It was a great match, but I was so mad at my brother omg
wow I got off topic
anyway
I've been super interested in Cena throughout 2016. He put on amazing matches with AJ Styles. And while that's really all he's done, that's okay.
It seems that John Cena is probably going to become an actor (or he at least wants to do something in Hollywood), and that's cool. I think he's becoming a part-timer and that is great.
I've made it known before that I absolutely hate certain part-timers (BROCK LESNAR), but I still really like John Cena. He's been wrestling for over 10 years with only a couple of breaks, and if there's anyone that I'm okay with being a part-timer, it's him.
Which leads me to the whole point of this rant.
Leading into the triple threat match at No Mercy (AJ vs. Dean. vs. Cena), he let it be known that he wanted to be 16x time champion and to beat Ric Flair's record.
If there's anyone that deserves to break that record, it is John Cena. Records were made to be broken, and he is the perfect person to do it.
Wrestling is this man's life, and Nikki Bella is probably the only thing he considers more important to him.
It has been this man's job for so long, and I have so much respect for him, that I would be really happy if he got to break this record.
If you ask someone who knows very little about wrestling to name one wrestler, they are either going to name Hulk Hogan, The Rock, or John Cena (depending on how old they are). The fact that John Cena has become synonymous with the WWE says a lot about him. If he didn't love wrestling and this company, he never would've become "the face that runs the place."
I feel like I'm getting repetitive, so I'm going to stop.
But yeah, John Cena has my respect.
