Indie Wrestlers

This won't be about people currently in the indies (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, etc), but indie guys currently in the WWE.

I was on Twitter, and this girl was doing a "1 like = 1 unpopular opinion" thing, and one of them stood out to me.

It said something along the lines of how indie guys aren't always 1000x better than home grown WWE guys. I couldn't agree more.

You guys probably know that I love my indie guys: Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens. Pretty much the whole cruiserweight division (even though TJ Perkins and Noam Dar are problematic).

However, there are guys who trained mostly with the WWE who are just as amazing. Randy Orton and John Cena are the first guys to come to mind. They are two of the biggest stars in the WWE, and yeah, they aren't Cesaro or Styles, but they can put on amazing matches.  John Cena put on three amazing matches with AJ Styles this past summer, and it wasn't all because of AJ.  Cena is really good, and I feel like people forget that because they're tired of him.

A more recent example is one of my favorite tag teams right now, The Revival.  At the last two Takeovers, they have defended their titles against Gargano + Ciampa, two well-known indie guys who are amazing in the ring.  The Revival kept up with them every step of the way.  Their two out of three falls match is definitely a match of the year contender.  They lost their titles in that match, but I am already excited for their rematch.

The Four Horsewomen are another example. Sasha, Becky, and Bayley all wrestled in the indies, but Charlotte didn't. She trained with the WWE, and she's just as good as those three.  She's a 3-time Women's Champion, a 1-time NXT Women's Champion, and she not only main evented a PPV with Sasha, but it was inside Hell in a Cell.  Some may argue that she got all this because of her last name, but I do think that the WWE recognizes her talent.

And finally, The Miz.  For most of this year, he's either been Intercontinental Champion or he's been chasing after it.  After he won it from Zack Ryder (still salty about that), he defended it in that amazing fatal 4-way match at Extreme Rules.  He put on an amazing match with Dolph Ziggler, both when Dolph won it, and when he won it back.  And his match with Sami Zayn was amazing (although Maryse should MIND HER OWN BUSINESS SAMI SHOULD'VE WON).  The Miz was a reality TV star, and he decided he wanted to wrestle. Now look where he is: the Intercontinental Champion and one of the best parts of SmackDown each week.

I will always defend the indie guys, but there are some amazing guys who never wrestled in the indies, and we need to recognize that they're just as good.
