trigger warning: sexual assault

Oh my god I don't even know where to begin with this.

Here's the story for those of you who don't know what happened:

Brock Turner is a student at Stamford (elite college in California, for my non-Americans).

Basically, there were two guys riding their bikes one night, when they noticed something sketchy going on in an alley.

What do they find? Brock Turner raping an unconscious girl.  The guys stop him, call the cops, and there's a trial (that just recently happened).

He's found guilty, but you know what his sentence was?

6 months in prison with probation.  Meaning that he can get out earlier for good behavior.

What normally sends someone to prison for anywhere between 9 and 24 years, he's serving only 6 months.

The judge claims that prison would be bad for this kid, that he wouldn't be able to last in prison, because he is a rich white male and he shouldn't have to go to prison for one "mistake."

I hate white people sometimes and I am a white person.

And during the trial, this kid's dad had something to say, where he tries to play Turner as sympathetic, saying his life is changed forever because of this, and tries to claim this sexual assault as "20 minutes of action" and oh my god

People are currently trying to get this judge disbarred, and I sure hope they succeed.

HAVING SEX WITH SOMEONE WHO IS UNCONSCIOUS (AND THEREFORE, NOT CONSENTING) IS RAPE. JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE DRUNK DOESN'T MEAN IT ISN'T RAPE.  JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW IT'S HAPPENING DOESN'T MEAN IT ISN'T RAPE.

I am just so disappointed in the American judicial system right now.
